Jaguar E Type Series II Rebuild - 2023-05-23 - Windscreen Installation - Part 1

Time to fit the windscreen. Joe Joe was on hand to help out even though he is on standby for Grand Child number 5!
After careful review of the old windscreen, I concluded that it was time for a new one. I found several places that had them in stock and within a few days I was able to pick up a new "clear" windscreen from a transport depot. Cost was not terrible.
I bought some specialty tools for the windscreen fitment, and these proved to be a great choice and very useful.
The windscreen seal I used was for a Coupe and I simply cut out the center section to allow fitment to the OTS. The seal is fitted to the body first, followed by the windscreen install.
Remember to fit the tension rod first before you install the windscreen into the seal. It has a different install angle than the glass.
Fitting the windscreen and assembly of the locking bead was relatively smooth. A chrome finisher is used for the windscreen header and is secured in place by the tension rod and two A post brackets.
Next step is to add the windscreen chrome finishers. I have ordered some Sealey RE600 Suction Cups and some glass sealant to help with the chrome install. These were recommended by Richard Owen (Thank you).
Music today is Bolero by Maurice Ravel - I love this music, not that I am a huge classical music fan.

John great to chat today, the top chrome finisher is held in with rubber window packing material.
