The fact that they focused more on the gang rather than just one single Joestar character made me reallllly love part 5 since the backstories of the characters really made me feel bad for them as well as all the emotional moments hit so much harder than it did in other parts for me. The first time I ever watched part 5 I didn't feel like there was not enough Giorno honestly and despite him not doing much, he's still my most favorite Jojo (next to Johnny)

To be fair, Araki was still experimenting with different stories, settings etc. Where in Part 1 we get a basic shonen heroic story, Part 4 with a more slice of life feel to it and Part 5 being more focused on the side characters rather than the MC. Sure its JOJO's Bizzare Adventure, but its also Jojo's BIZZARE Adventure, Araki tried out different things for these different parts and then eventually making a MASTERPIECE of Part 7 after working on the flaws of every previous part.

  • @ramimoussi7438

My problem with giorno is that he actually started out as an interesting character for me but as soon as he joined brunos gang, I cared less and less about him. Sure there are highlights ( my favourite one being his fight against chiocolatta but even here it would've been way more impactful if he fought fugo instead) and I know that he's supposed to support buccis gang and lift their spirits but I always felt it limited his character and potential to the point where I just couldn't relate to him anymore. Early giorno started out as a cunning, charismatic smart kid with a sense of justice but who was also willing to steal from people to serve his own needs. Even subtle things like his dialogue with bruno and how much we could discern from his character during this interaction. or him getting surprised and even panics at certain events without having an immediate solution at hand. All of this makes him feel more like a fully realized character. He felt more like a teenager who was minding his business on the streets of italy and yet was aware of the situation that was going on in his town. But as this part went on he got less interesting to me which is kind of a shame. He doesn't even interact much with brunos gang outside of the fights, he never felt fully involved. The closest he was friends with is mista. The rest not so much. Yes they respect him and see what he's capable of but it's more like them respecting him like their future boss than an actual friend.

The reason I like Giorno so much is strangely exactly for this exact reason, I like how he has a flat character arc and how he feels like a background character most of the time just helping the rest of the gang win their fights as I feel it fits very well with Part 5s themes of fate, as Giorno the son of DIO is symbolic of a christ-like figure leading people (the gang) to their own fates, so I think being less involved and having less development matches up with this interpretation of him, though I also do wish he was in the part more and must say that the anime did take out some of his characterisation rom the manga, like how he also shakes when he is sacred or sad in the manga a call back to his backstory,

Unlike all the other parts, giorno's reasoning is not selfish. What i mean by that is like for example part 3, they only fought against dio to save holly because she might die if the curse isn't lifted. His reasoning is to stop the corruption in his city, he has nothing to do with it yet he still did it, even losing the life of some of his comrades. Just for that reason.

"The only highlight Giorno moment is the fight against Buccellati."
Black Sabbath fight, Baby Face fight, White Album fight, Cioccolata getting seven paged, and Gold Experience Requiem: Are we a joke for you?
Okay, joking aside, Giorno is my favorite JoJo, so obviously I disagree with most of this, but I think the part I disagree with the most is the one about how it would have been better if we got the gang members individually building up trust on Giorno, because... that's exactly what happened in the part? He proved to Abbacchio that he's trust worthy in the Soft Machine fight, then got Fugo's respect in the Man in the Mirror fight, got Mista's trust in the White Album fight, then got Narancia's trust in the Clash and Talking head fight, and I really don't think we should ignore all of those moments just because it is never stated through dialogue. Giorno doesn't get as many solo moments as Jotaro for example, but he is actually involved a lot. I really don't get why people act like he just didn't do anything in the part.
Also, I really don't understand how Giorno was "very minor" in the White Album fight? He was there through the entire thing, Mista would literally have died multiple times if he wasn't there, and Giorno even got the finishing blow. I honestly feel like you're underestimating how important Giorno was in that fight.

This is an issue I’ve noticed with the JoJo fanbase as a whole (not to say you can’t enjoy the series how you want) but each part has a very specific theme that almost perfectly reflects the main JoJo’s main goal or the narratives theme. And it seems like whenever someone is talking about their favorite Joestar in comparison to another it usually that they weren’t ‘enough of this or more like that’ when to compare the characters in this way almost defeats the purpose. I think it’s an interesting commentary and it’s something I’ve noticed the most with Giorno.

EDIT: Hoooly crap this comment is long
I think the one thing Giorno needed to really solidify him as a character (aside from more screen time, of course) was a genuine moral dilemma that he can't solve on his own.
We've seen that he's supposed to be the perfect mixture of Joestar and Brando character traits. His whole motivation is to take over the mafia - a vicious criminal organization - by any means necessary, and then reform it into something that, in theory, protects the people of Italy rather than exploiting them. That's an inherently gray conflict. But despite the fact that his goals, actions, and philosophy (hell, even his very existence) depend on those moral gray areas, Giorno's mentality is surprisingly black-and-white for much of the story. He is very quick to judge people as being "good" or "evil," and will treat them accordingly. Just think about his fight with Buccellati, and how quickly he switched from stone-cold executioner to charismatic friend over a single moment of hesitation. This is even more jarring when you think about how humanized the minor villains of Vento Aureo are, how they clearly care about each other, and how some even have their own miniature development arcs. Part 5 is the first arc of JoJo where good and evil truly begin to blur at the edges, but the narrative had not yet come to terms with that fact.
One of the biggest complaints I've heard about Giorno is that he has no flaws. Well, here's the potential for one that solves two of the arc's greatest issues: he sees the world in extremes. He combines Joestar righteousness with Brando ruthlessness, containing the best and worst of both sides. He treats his friends with the gentleness of Jonathan, and his enemies with the cruelty of DIO, and this disparity makes him dangerous. This is shown somewhat in canon too, but what if it went a step further?
Maybe a member of La Squadra who once caused a major hindrance or harbors some truly despicable traits offers to help Buccellati's gang, and he chafes against them. Maybe a member of Buccellati's gang goes through with an unethical plan, and he has to grit his teeth and go along or risk losing everything. Maybe he takes a little longer to come to terms with the fact that given time, he might have ended up just as broken as the rest of Passione is. I noticed Giorno has a tendency toward self-sacrifice; maybe the only way to defeat one enemy is to allow someone else to be harmed or even killed in his stead. Maybe he just takes a minute to really sit with the death toll his "glorious dream" is causing. Maybe he falters due to his own perceived imperfections, and needs to be encouraged by the others (this is why White Album is one of the best fights in the arc; Mista inspires him instead!). Or maybe we get a variation on the scrapped arc where Fugo betrays the team, but with a twist that makes the traitor far more sympathetic. What if he sees his own past reflected in this figure? How, then, would he react?
Giorno has often been compared to Jesus in fan analysis, but the story we got skips to the resurrection with no Gethsemane. He is a well-written character with far more nuance than many (including the writer himself) give him credit for. But what he needed to elevate him from good to great was something to cement those disparate elements together: doubt and resolve, brutality and empathy, divinity and humanity, Brando and Joestar. It doesn't even need to be a radical shift in perspective, just the full utilization of what's already there. His interactions with the world around him - and how they refine his viewpoint - would have been just the thing to push him over the edge.
But yeah. More dialogue with the gang would be awesome. Bonus points if we play up the lowkey sarcastic politeness, like he had with Leaky-Eye Luca. That was pretty great.

If I could play avvocato del diavolo, while it does put more emphasis on la squadra di tortura, the story passive shows giorno's journey from the very bottom of passione to the top through the other characters. At the start, everyone in la squadra di tortura hate giorno for being the new guy and only tolerate him because bucciarati commanded them to and their loyalty to him was strong enough for them to be willing to die for him. If don diavolo showed up in episode 5 and conveniently, both bruno and diavolo died then and there, no one would accept giorno as the new don. If anything Abbacchio would take the role as acting squad leader and signor pericolo would become acting don due to being the effective 2nd in command to don diavolo. However, if you pay attention, almost every battle in vento aureo had one of the members of squadra di torturo with giorno (with the exception of Narancia). In every battle where they had to work with giorno, they slowly realized "bruno got further because of giorno" or "we won this battle thanks to giorno". Their loyalty slowly shifted from bruno to giorno because not only of giorno's own ability, but also the hightened ability he brought out in others. Even as bruno was slowly dying, he admitted, even in guido's presence that the one to replace diavolo as the don, wasn't himself but giorno. The remaining members of the squad, were giorno, guido, and unofficially trish, and they both accepted him as the leader. Guido could get claim due to seniority and trish can claim due to being of direct lineage of the previous don, but giorno became the leader, not just because he got the arrow or because he defeated diavolo but because they both experienced how much giorno sacrificed of himself for the both of them and showed his determinazione. What made the group dynamic interesting was that bruno was actively narrated while being a passive character while giorno was passively narrated while being an active character.
If anything, my issue was that there was only a little bit of focus on giorno being a brando and absolutely no focus on being a joestar. He is the son of both the vampiric dio and the hamon user jonathan. They could have given him hightened strength, durability, or agility due to his father being a vampire and maybe having jonathan's blood filled him with hamon, resulting in him being a day-walker. More on that, this would have been a great way to bring back hamon momentarily since air supplina island presumably still existed. Napoli was also the home of caesar zeppili, so they could have done a callback. Like what if caesar fooled around a bit and had a great-grandson show up in vento aureo, so you would have a cast of stans users and 1 hamon user. Imagine how hamon could compliment gold experience's ability. More importantly, the fact that both dio and diavolo both saw themselves as king of kings, they could have played more to giorno being chosen by the arrow because he was the son of the truer king.

personally i didnt have a problem with giorno as a team member rather than the usual OP main character, it was quite refreshing. his strength came from being a ray of hope and a morale booster. also i feel it fit the arc as the theme was gangs, each memeber of a team has their role and a team can only work when everyone fufils their roles, so i felt this was perfect for the plot. my only gripe for this part was dropping fugo entirely as i felt if you kept him as an ally or villain he couldve made for a interesting fight.

My biggest gripe with Giorno is that he's DIO's son, but Araki does absolutely nothing with that concept. The whole reason Jotaro was interested in Giorno was because he was DIO's kid, and it felt like that was gonna be some major plot point, maybe having Giorno be a bit more sadistic than previous JoJos or being more arrogant. But after the first couple chapters/episodes this is completely forgotten. He might as well have been the son of some Joe Schmoe with how little he connected back to DIO. It just felt like he was DIO'S son so Araki had an excuse for him to say Muda and Wryy

Okay so.. I didn’t like this part as much has it was hyped up by people and that’s mainly because of how it confused me with every second it showed.
Diavolo’s stand abilities kept making me overthinking his abilities despite knowing it’s a villain with time manipulation (with it being skipping 10 seconds), The Rolling Stones stand plot wasn’t even necessary at all, the short span of time like this is all supposed to be taken in 8 days when it doesn’t feel like it and so on.
Giorno is interesting to me in terms of who he is but after he joined, it shifted to the crew (which I do like the gang more) even though I still wished they tried to be friends with him throughout the part.
Abbacchio is one of my default points of friendship struggling to have since his backstory made him hard to trust people like Giorno but he could’ve at least been more friendly to him after a while. He even showed it for the end of saving Fugo from the mirror but then he went to being “stand over there, Giorno. I’m not letting you see Moody Blues”.
And the worst offender I mentioned earlier was that the whole story took place in 8 days. I had to count the days of each fight with one of the days having at least 8 fights nearly back to back within the time itself (Man who makes people deflate to White Album’s defeat)….

A big contribution for Giorno is that he killed Polpo which led to Buccellati becoming a Capo and getting the mission immediately to escort Trish. Basically starting the entire main plot of Part 5 from that small chain of events. It may also go underappreciated but he is the only reason Buccellati stayed in the series after his fight against the boss.
Even though he wasn't shown to interact much with the gang, the main narrative point was to show that he is someone that Passione should have as their boss. At some points we get to see the other members of Team Buccellati agree with that when his actions inspires and leads them down the right path without having to also coddle or bail them out of every situation. He just made them into better people with his charisma, dedication and intellect.
From a character POV what I remember most is the juxtaposition of how he treats individuals. The same guy who would buy an extra ice cream for a little kid would also mercilessly impale, or toss an evil person off a roof - fully knowing they are human and not some supernatural threat.

My opinion of why part five is pretty low on my favorite part is the whole hitman squad never gets a kill, Sometimes I root for the hitman squad because they really aren’t the “bad guys”. There friends got killed by the boss and they wanna find and kill the boss. La squadra is super strong but they never take out anyone plus they are super cool with great character design. I mean risotto would have killed the boss if not for arrowsmith like la squadra caught so many bad breaks. Fugo or someone should have died to la squadra or a minor villain. As others would say he’s a flat character that changes other characters. His interactions with other characters to solve their problems was interesting to me. Plus how much can someone really grow on a specific mission in such a short amount of time? We know his motives and his goals. Wow. Looks like people forget that there’s more than one way to present growth. This was one of the best “learning from others” stories I’ve ever seen. Giorno grew up alone and with just an aspiration towards a gang leader. He grew up on the streets as a thief, but only through the gang that accepted him did he grow to be a proper leader. Each one represented a facet Giorno never learned properly. As an example, thanks to Fuugo did he learn loyalty. There is more than one aspect of loyalty out there, and thanks to Fuugo leaving did he get to experience that. Golden wind is a story of a self made man, but one that learned from others- unlike his father. Giorno isn’t the focus of this part- he’s the lesson we should take from others.

Parts 3 and 5 are my favorite because the gangs have clear goals and follow through with them. The characters in Part 4 spend way too much time on random stuff that doesn't progress the plot or even progress their characters. That's not to say that Part 4 is bad, only that its plot isn't as strong in my opinion.
Out of 3 and 5, the writing in part 5 is better. As much as I like Jotaro, he carries his whole team, and the others don't get nearly as much development or screen time as they deserve. Part 5, meanwhile, gives plenty of time for every member to shine with the exception of Fugo. It's not the main character carrying his whole team like Part 3 was.
I'll still take any of them over Part 6 where characters routinely carry the stupid ball just so the plot works, and where the whole plot should have been resolved by Jolyne simply walking out of prison with her bullet-catching, turn her own body into thread and slip through bars, should have just been sticky fingers because that ability was way better, sunglasses-wearing stando. Jotaro's choice not to explain anything to her at all up to that point in her life doesn't make sense either. Even if he was trying to protect her, he'd be better off telling her what he was protecting her from rather than fostering hatred that ended up delaying both of them at a crucial moment.

Giorno was Dio if he cared about the people around him. He made people around him better through his personality and presence. I didn't see him as a JoJo ever anyway because as soon as he hit puberty his body went full Brando.

I feel like if the egotistical DIO side of Giorno popped out every now and then and it ended up messing up a fight or a plan then that would be great character development that he could’ve worked on. My problem with Giorno is that he’s introduced with a very odd familiar background and that we got to know him, his goals and how he thinks, however, after that we don’t get anymore out of him
