I owe my World Music career to Silk, Ra and Stormdrum. I loved the compositions in this video; you have a way with tension and tonic in any genre, or scale.
One of the best sounding libraries I’ve used. Some days I’ll pull up the Duduk and play it for an hour or so cause it’s just so damn pretty. Hats off for a truly standout library
For the custom keyswitching setup to switch between different "Performance" instruments (20:00), make sure to set the midi input channel for all instruments to the same channel (typically 1). In the video it is set up "Omni", but the default I think when dragging multiple instruments is to assign different channels to each instrument (1, 2, 3 ..) and then things won't work as expected. Just sharing in case anyone else runs into that problem.
Thanks for this video and for the little tips regarding Opus that are scattered throughout the video ;-) I love Silk and have been using it for many years, I really hope EW will do an update at some point with more wonderful ethnic instruments from around the world. Kind regards and many blessings, MaxT
What a fantastic walkthrough of Silk, thank you, thank you, thank you. Please keep them all coming like this, I have so much to learn and these walkthroughs give me so much inspiration on using the East West Subscription that I have and can pass onto my student studies.
Great walkthrough. Definitely one of my favourite libraries in the East West composer cloud. Also, the custom keyswitching functionality is really powerful. Hats off to the opus dev team.
Unbelivable.. ! I just used the 30piece string orchestra yesterday.. ! 🤓 Dear EW : How do you identify the key of the phrases & is there a way to transpose these to a key of our choice.. Many thanks 👍🥇
I'd love the be option of quartertones or any other EDO for my compositions. I've had to use Kontakt for my recent compositions for this reason although I love EW libraries and have had them for 8 years
Thank you for making this. The Chinese instruments are some of my favorites and I’ve been looking for an in depth breakdown of this vst for about a couple of years now.
I do not have a midi key board but rather I use Finale to compose , visually, then I can export musicxml ( and assign instruments to the midi part of the file in Reaper ) I have never seen any in depth videos from anyone else doing that ? Are you able to get the same controllability with out a midi keyboard just from the midi file of a musicxml file ?
The question is: When will Opus be available for those who already own EW libraries like HW Strings etc? From the website it seems that only Opus is compatible with M1 natively, which is a major drawback for the Play engine.
I wish EW provide us with some project file like VSL, and i think they really need to add some libraries in SILK, it is just small amount number of instruments. RA is better with more instruments.
These middle east instruments are amazing . but I see a major problem. These instruments need custom micro tuning options. there are lots of scales in Persian music ( Nava, Mahoor, Afshari, Shour, Segah, Homayun , Aboata, Dashti, Bayat Turk and so on ... ) that you don't cover. These instruments need customizable micro tuning. Just give your users freedom.
Oh my gosh, a preview function. 😍

Whoever writes the subtitles for these videos deserves a raise...
You are very very big talent!
Thank You!
I use Silk in almost every one of my compositions. I can't even say what I like the most.

Enjoyed the walkthrough, Question: what is you keyboard controller?
Hi Ryan, Could you please make available the MIDI data of your demos?

whats the difference between SILK and RA ?
by the way: How can i batch purge all samples?
