  • Subaru XV available in 1.6 or 2.0 petrol engines, comes with a lineartronic gearbox, symetrical AWD and our model costs just over £26,000.00, it features Eyesight, Subaru's safety system with automatic cruise control, it's also very comfortable and very well kitted out.

So glad to see there's still intelligent life in British car journalism. Excellent review, straight to the points and, most importantly, no stupid nagging about silly things 😉

Has it happened in anytime that the engine let your down ? I'm thinking buying 1.6 one, but worried that the engine could fall short in some scenarios, so is there any case that the engine didn't do well ? unfortunately I don't have the liberty to buy 2.0 one

if you are a relaxed and smart driver it is a good choice to take the 1.6. Those who always on the fast-lane, even the 2.0 isnt enough because of the cvt.

Thats good to know actually as I have a limited budget and the 1.6 is the more affordable option, plenty for sale in UK currently. Id get the Impreza hatch 1.6 but hardly any left now, and I believe the ride is a bit firm so probably not for me. The XV looks a good all rounder for long term ownership.

These cars are not light, thats one thing to remember, it wont be quick because of power to weight ratio, but Subaru are not stupid. For most daily driving circumstances at the SPEED LIMIT, and not driving like a fool, im sure the power is perfectly fine. The 1.6 still has 111lb of torque and 112bhp, and although a heavy car, the engine sounds so good you will enjoy hearing the revs rise as you drive it. These fellas talk good sense compared to other reviewers who only mention negative aspects, but then its all down to personal choice and not everyone wants a hugely powered car. A lot of drivers today seem unable to enjoy motoring unless it has tons of torque. Think a lot need to grow up a bit. The road isnt a racetrack, and I laugh when I see accidents caused by bad drivers. Its their own stupid fault for being impatient. This car will last a long time, and no need to keep trading in every three years like most people do. Go on, waste your money on yet another finance deal. Just get one good car and keep it, and when you make the last payment you own it yay !

Another great video guys! This version looks a lot more aggressive than the 2015 version, I went in a few years back. My wife's friend had it in a really nice orange, thou i do like the dark metallic grey . I can see that the interior is so much nicer than the previous version too. is the 1.6 lump a boxer engine? I am looking forward to the pickup videos.

Softtouch plastic is great in the front but not in the back. When you use the car for moving lots of stuff (like going to the tip) you always have to be careful of your interior. When you fold down the rear seats it is nice there is not to much vulnerable material in the back to destroy. My last car was a Forrester and it was clear that Subaru actually thinks of such small things, making the car just that little bit more practical than other cars. You just only notice it when you have owned the car for a few months or so. It's not brochure material, it just all works.
Going for a testdrive next week I hope, it's now on my shortlist.

It’s an interesting one this, as it is a Continuously Variable Transmission, and technically a 1 speed gearbox according to many a well known car website. Regardless of Semantics it really does vary from vehicle to vehicle. *ben

Unreliable compared with which kind of transmission? It doesn't have clutch(dsg has two of them) and dsg has also a mechatronic unit, that has an expensive repairing costs....I can asume that It could be lazy and boring than a dsg or Torque converter gearbox type, but other than the belt,i think that is simplier and more reliable than a dsg gearbox
