- Embark on a heart-pounding journey as a boat captain navigates a tight spot in this gripping video! Watch as suspense builds while the captain cautiously approaches a bridge, uncertain if there's enough clearance for the boat to pass underneath.
Feel the tension rise with each inch closer to the bridge, as the captain weighs the risks and navigates the narrow gap. Witness the pivotal moment when the decision is made to execute a quick U-turn, attempting to avoid disaster.
But alas, despite the captain's efforts, disaster strikes as the boat's gear, radars, and antennas get caught and raked off the top in a dramatic turn of events. The question looms: Was this daring maneuver a display of good or bad boat driving?

I always assumed that is why they made to be in a ridge vertical position.

Hahahahah!!!!
Or let some water in
@@terrywhite2578yes that
Funny , seen a friend drive into a car wash in a small Winnebago Van camper with the big AC on top , it's was funny he let the air out of the tires , I thought was cool , but there was know where to get air , middle of the night coming from the Daytona 500 , that joke brought that to mind ,G,B
He had the right idea until he made the sharp turn.Which put him under the bridge, defeating the purpose of backing away in the first place.1 out of 5.
1 out of 5 is generous.
The forward surge swings the stern, that tidal push was being beat by his motors in reverse...boater!
What's the 1 for? He bent his silly boat
Ill give him a 2 out of 10 for not damaging the hull and turn around quickly.
Nah, if the rating system is 5, this skipper gets 4 dingleberries for sure, maybe 4.5.
He’s a boater, not a Captain!
When he's at the helm, he's the captain. Just ask my grands....I'm the captain of my pontoon. Even though I'm just a boating Chief. 😉
Credit card Captain , his training was turn the key and go .
That's my new favorite line to use when i fuck up. Lol
Helmsman would be the right term. If he got a license, skipper is appropriate. Although after this maneuver, his license should be revoked.
Unnecessarily loud, bad for the environment and reckless.
@@johnsnyder3512Even bridge tenders are sometimes called captain.
I rate this captain as Landlubber. Possibly also drives a large, lifted SUV or pickup with no need for either clearance or 4WD on his way between his home or office.
He didn't seem to know the difference between a car and a boat, the way they turn and that water moves.
A case of more money than common sense
All he had to do was back on out rather than try to turn
Once he stopped and turned port side into the current he was done. It turned his power boat into a sail boat
How efficient is the reversing in this kind boat?
@pavel9652 they have decent power. Could have easily backed out. Turning side on to the current is always going to end badly.
He needed to trim that anyways
@denialphasebitcoin5639 probably a rental.
Slamming both engines into forward didn’t help matters, either. He might have cleared it if he just split them. Not that he should have been trying to turn that close in the first place. He’s clearly very inexperienced.
Inexperienced .... just back the hell up and turn...wait on tide drop for few hours
Why wait it’s 3 screws just unbolt the light. If it’s that close, I’ve ran deliveries for over 3 years now running anything up to 65’ 17’ wide never ever had anything like that, he let the wind take em rather then backing up further he used starboard motor to power out when he could have put the port side in reverse and cat walked it sideways and never hit the bride
I think thats what he was trying to do but, theres a lil bit of current.n
That is low tide boynton inlet
It's hard to back down in current like that.. shit happens on the water.

Most thought out answer I’ve red so far🧸
As a boat captain you should be aware of tidal shifts on known waters
Ah, had not thought about tide. I live a 100 miles from the North Sea, but for real, the rivers south of Amsterdam do have a tidal current, and water levels are interesting. You're right, he should simply wait. But to me it looks like he could have made it, at the highest spot. Whatever.
Shut up, nerd.
You used “captain”. Not applicable in this video.
Tidal shifts OH BOY just stop talking
Tidal shifts? Most Captains would use a chart and tide tables etc and arrive at a suitable hour.
Captain was excellent but the bridge designer should be sacked, it's way to low to get that captains boat under. 🤷🤦😆❤️🇬🇧

@@quadaar1017 oh yeah of course, don't know why I didn't think of that 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦😆❤️
lol ever heard of a tide?
He had enough room
No he wasn’t. He would’ve avoided that by backing up differently.
The Boynton Beach inlet can be treacherous, but these condition are about as tame as you're ever likely to see them. He could have cleared the underside of the bridge, but he was trying to transit during high tide.
Facts, that inlet has taken a lot of boats
Well it's to late, baby now it's to late, though we really did try to make it.😢😢😢
What do you mean he could of cleared. He already took out his antenna.
I go fishing there all the time and that current definitely rips. I see kids jumping off the bridge during slack ride or incoming tide. When it’s going to low tide you will be way out in the ocean in minutes. Nice place though and the water in the inlet is so clear.
I lived there many years ago, and went through that inlet hundreds of times. I don't know if I ever saw it that calm.
Wrong decision to turn so close 🎉... Hello Mr George 😂😂😂
He's not a good operator
Wrong decision to try at all at that water level.

@@dennyroling..........probably.
Just proves that money can’t buy u brains.
Speaking as an ex trawler skipper ✌️🇬🇧
Ain’t that the truth! He would have just made it if he had stayed at the middle of the bridge, he was clear when he was in the side slide. Theo he panicked and hit the throttle going into the low side. He probably could have slid all the way through just by kicking the port into gear, and then spinning it around on the other side. It looks to me like tide is rising and there is a pretty good current running through the channel in the direction he wanted to go.
Well, at least he didn't knock the bridge down
He didn’t hit anything and I couldn’t tell weather he actually impaired the traffic while making the turn not sure if he did anything else wrong he had clearance above the flying bridge , not a captain just a guy with a big boat and all of these guys are jealous of the guys boat , me too
No very experienced,
1) Wait for tide to drop.
2) If you must attempt, back down on it since current is pushing in. Allows for easy abort.
3) given he failed 1 and 2, should have backed away from bridge further before attempting turn around. He could then spin the boat using both engines, one forward one reverse, and not risk running boat into jetty as he almost did.
He's fortunate he only lost a stern light!
He needs some stern advice, for certain.
Pretty sure there was a wind vane on that mast too
Captain did a great job giving that boat a haircut. Just a little off the top
I owned the exact same boat, really easy to maneuver, but looks like Captain credit card needs to go take some lessons

Will he share some of that extra money either me? I want a bigger boat.
Spoken like a true poor 😂
Least expensive repair of the boating season.
When dealing with a large vessel you should always back down the current. You have more power to push up the current than back up the current
That's what he said after taking you huh
He realized he had a problem, powering straight back was best option. If he had a second in command person. He should establish contact with the boat approaching his stern.
Agree, but saw it too late to get spun around in time to throttle forward. Once he got it sideways to the current, it was game over. Was either inexperienced or ducks not lined up right. Another learning experience for him.
I didn't see any large vessels in this video.
This is why a license should be required
Doesn't help on the road wouldn't help on the water.

Knowing your max height, tide calculation and timing.
It’s kinda important to know these things…
Bingo. He shouldn’t have even been there without KNOWING he had clearance. Bridge clearance minus air draft = clearance. If this number is a near zero or negative, it’s a no go.
If you're halfway under the bridge, why go back? Finish it.
By the way, the radio antenna can be easily be lowered or removed quicker than the tide will go out.
Especially since he just lowered it.. all clear Capt. 🤭
He thought this was *Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift* and he was the star of the show! LMAO! They'll be no sequel for this guy!
He saved most of it.
This is like watching those 13’ 6” trucks trying to go under those 13’ overpasses.
But like they saw it was too short and coasted up and hit it anyway, then after they hit and went under, they back up and hit it again.
Otherwise, very similar.
Yeah and drivers making a car killing attempt at the flooded viaduct.
Well my opinion is that antenna was better than the boat being torn up
I've seen a lot worse; one just took down a bridge in Baltimore. That was an inexpensive lesson 😂
He is good 👍 he fixed his overheight problem 😅
Waitwaitwait… so you’re telling me the INSANELY BADASS tech on a yacht like that one that probably warned him about that low-hanging overpass 2 miles, 1, 0.5, 0.25, etc. miles out was RIGHT?!?!
Then, last minute, he decided to pull the ‘ole switcharoo- well, kinda… more like a FLIParoo- and attempt a (pretty shitty, even by Yacht Captain standards) maneuver to pull a 180 degree turnaround so that he’ll, hopefully, only damage the comm equipment on the top of the yacht- maybe the entire comm system altogether?!?! Possibly some of the the most expensive aspects/gear on the vessel?!?!
Nothing like watching a genius at work
Captain didnt we just come under this bridge a little bit ago
Captain performed splendidly after his (or her) Alarm clock woke him up !
Obviously, he screwed it up, but not disastrously…
Owners of small boats are not captains.
It takes work, studying, and climbing the hierarchy to become a captain. Plus skills.
By Maritime law, the person in command is the captain and is burdened with all obligations of a captain. What do I know, though? Only been the captain of vessels I owned since 1979.
@@David-hm9ic Look, those “Captains” are as much as me being a pilot just because I board a plane.
99% of these “Captains” don’t know anything about navigation, SOLAS, MARPOL, laws at sea or responsibilities.
Absolute wast majority have not spent even one day on any course to learn anything theoretical, and absolutely nothing practical.
No one would expect those morons to understand what or why they are on a boat less keep them responsible for anything unless a collision, drinking and other obvious pretty much common sense things.
Just look at them, they put toddlers, pets, children at the front of the boats many times sending those flying, without a life vest.
As a minimum, anybody who want to operate a boat should be licensed and attend trainings and pass tests.
In normal country, that is a norm.
Shudda let some air out of the tires

That was a pretty swift evasive move. There's a lot of moving water right there😂... I f****** hate boating... But it's entertaining to watch 🙈
he did it like he is driving a car.
10/10 boat skillz
Who needs antennas anyway.
He was correct to neutralise the speed. What followed was a shambles. Having neutralised the speed, there was a perfectly good solid dock there that a crew member, of whom I could see at least one spare, should have been at the ready with a line jumping off and tying on to hold her straight while a new plan is formulated - possibly getting the boat slowly further back to give the necessary run to make the turn without hitting the structure. The turn was necessary because this boat will have much more power going forwards and possibly also more control. Also, note that the boat was trying to turn anti clockwise and the captain had made a decision to try to turn clockwise, clearly not having paid any attention or interest in the preferred rotation of the vessel herself. In fact, an earlier turn anticlockwise with her nose hard against the dock with fenders for protection, and possibly held still by line was probably the best option. Once losing the aerial was inevitable, the captain then panicked and used far too much power and massively increased the possible damage. Once a collision is unavoidable, it is rarely a good idea to try to power your way out of it. It is better to allow the collision to happen at low to no speed.
Wow!!!!! A U-Turn! Impressive!!!
Im hardly an expert but were those Seagulls laughing?
Smart enough to be aware of the problem, not smart enough to avoid the problem.
Professional Mariner here. The title "Captain" is used way too loosely in these and many more videos and comments. Any fool doing this kind of shit ain't nothing but a weekend warrior boat driver. These are the types of idiots that scare me to death! Fools will run around my bow not realizing it sometimes takes me 3 miles to get my tow stopped!
As an amateur captain, I agree wholeheartedly. I learned to operate boats on a small lake with nobody else around and no help if I messed up. Pure sail; no engine. By the time I could afford an inboard powered sailboat I knew how to operate them and understood the rules of the road.
Looks good! Nice turn around!
There went that 10k Flir camera 🤣
Boat handling was spot on!
Boat Captain: "I meant to do that" 😮
When you see this guy at the grocery store parking lot, give him some space. There's a poorly planned 3 point turn coming up.
Looks good. Now he can get through.
Other than putting yourself in that position, the guy did a great job as close as he waited.
A small reverse moving forward will lower the rear far enough to make it through that short area of the under bridge. Done many times and that was only a foot or two..
I Was thinking he was gunna do something like that. But nope.
i give him a 10. without his skills we would not have had this video to watch.
That was actually a really good save at the very end I thought he was hitting the dock and at that speed the damage would have been severe.
I’d guess same type of people that have never driven anything larger than a midsize car, jumping behind a 40’ motor home.. a repair shop’s best friend.
He used to be a barber. "Just take a little off the top".
"You lose, sir, good day!"
Well, at least he recognized the problem. Avoidance was a fail!
If you don't know your boat, know your credit card number.
He needs to step down from the helm😂😅 nice boat by the way😊
If his goal was to do a 180, he succeeded. If he was trying to dock, well then, he sucked.
Whoops! This turns different than my Mercedes.
Panic got him in the end. he was looking okay in reverse.
He was like "FCK this chair"
Now it’ll clear. Go ahead Cap’n.

At least his husband says he is.
Or his wife. 😂
That's one way of letting the tide drop a foot in under a minute! He gets a zero on that maneuver.
Put it in reverse Terry 😂
Thank you for sharing this yacht scene. I hope mo one was hurt. But one of his/her antennas is broken!😮 The height markers for bridges are posted overhead many times. And I hope this owner has the information about how tall his/her yacht is!😊
I'm convinced people are scared of reverse.
I guess reversing was to slow for that cowboy
That's only gonna be one "aye" from me.
Does the bridge raise or swing ???
Can't you just point the prop 90°, hit it in reverse, and spin yourself any direction you want?
To be fair..... it can be very difficult to judge the air-draught sometimes.
What he should have done was turned 180 first and approached in reverse, so that he had full control to abandon if necessary.
Here’s an idea get a pole that is as long as the height of the boat that you put in the front of the boat so you can gauge whether you’re going to clear or not stored on one of the sides so it’s out-of-the-way until you need it

Hey, at least I'll fit forget how to worry about that last poem, no more LO.L😂😂😂😂
Yeah, learned that you stay MUCH further away from trouble until you have clearance.
Tide tables are your friend. Use that credit card for some training!

Great first mate !
My brother-in-law had to hold out a few to go under! A true captain! Cleared it by 1'. Neat to watch while the surge in the inlet was treacherous. He has a 1992 37' Blackfin with the Captains Bridge on top!
He probably didn't need that antenna anyway.
Should have gave yourself some more turning room backing up considering the current pushing you towards the over pass
Looks to me like that gadget up there had been bugging him for a while and he finally found a way to get rid of it….well done!
I think he did pretty good. That current was moving. Tight space concrete everywhere. He recognized the clearance issue minor damage. That turn around was pretty good.
He saved the boat!
Thats a fine way of reducing his air draft so he can now make it. I'd give him a 10. 😅
