- Hello All, I went south last weekend to make the final preparations for splitting in a few weeks feeding equalizing and such. sorry about the weird upload this video should be pretty clean and not missing half its content. still learning how to do the UA-cam, and technology thing.
if yall are interested in queens or colonies you can email me at appalachianbeeranch22@gmail.com
Seth, it's winter and I watch a lot of her vids from many different berks. Yours is fast paced well edited and just a pleasure to watch. No nonsense beekeeping. I even learned several things from this one video. Thanks for your effort. Glad Bob encouraged you!!!!
“The liquid nails of beekeeping” was my favorite quote Seth! Love it!😂
Seth awesome job! 90% of people who do videos while going through their hives, leave people unsure as to what they are doing.
You did the best I have ever seen anyone do. Not only did you explain what you were doing you but why. You did the best educational video of this type I've seen done!!!
I'm 65 years old and been playing in bees longer than you have been alive, I'm not pulling your leg!!!! Awesome job. I am going to post this on my Facebook page, hopefully it will help you young man. Have a great day.
Thank you very much
Can't get enough of Seth!
Those funky frames we call “Picasso’s”….all works of art!
All looking great . Keep up the great work. THANKS FOR THE UPDATE!!!!.
Thanks Seth, glad to go along with ya!!!
Well done Seth.
I have some of those " Mature Box's ". One thing I do is to rotate the box 180 degrees so my tool is picking on a different corner when breaking them open. Never seems to cause any issues. Eventually I pull them out, cut the outer edges off and they become nuc's.
Or cut the Box on the Table Saw down into Feeder shims or Strips for new bottom boards.
That’s a good tactic I’ll have to try to employ that 👍🏻
You tha man Seth, great personable informative as you work the bees video, you're awsome at quickly working the bees and assessing what to do and what they need in preparation for grafting, put me on your list for at least 5 queens, next time you're headed south or back north, call me and you can jump off at the Buc-ees grab bite and we'll cruise my potential bee yards and talk bees little. more.
Keep up the good work
We had two swarms here in Blackstock SC out of our 6 colonies. I didn't pay enough attention to the queen cups and turns out they had eggs in them 🤷
they can be deceitful. if ever in doubt just look around.
Got a feeling this might be my new favorite channel.
glad to be of service 🤘
Good to see you in action.
Great video! i'm jealous as we can't get in our bees yet here in the north. Keep the videos coming!
2nd times the charm lol. Well done 👍
I just love watching your videos Seth! Keep up the good work!
Cracking video Seth, really enjoyed it can't wait for the next one thanks
Great video Seth! We're seeing the same thing and same size hives here in Piedmont NC. Keep the videos coming!
Didn't see any hive beetles, good job! Great video as well.
Great job Seth 👍👌🐝🐝
Hi from Texas. Good show. Didn't know about protruding worker brood..
Really enjoying your channel Seth. Never had the pleasure of meeting you but I have met and seen Bob and some the crew at blue ridge honey. I am in NC and I ride your way sometime to get supplies and honey from Bob. Thanks for sharing Seth!
Yessir we appreciate you watching
Good stuff Seth! keep the videos coming!
So glad your doing videos! Keep up the good work.
Glad to see you on your own channel! Big fan.
Thank you glad I could find the time to make videos for everybody 👍🏻
Good stuff Seth
your in moonshine country!!!! and Sasquatch country!!!! I would love to go see your part of the world :) I am in Ireland we make poteen and we got fairies:) so same but different :) ooh and my da is the bee keeper lol:)
Hahaha that sounds like I need to come see how y’all kick it in Ireland 👍🏻👌🏻
It's game on for us down south, good job Seth, your apiary looks great! Good stuff my Freind!
thanks man i liked your incubator video i took some notes looking forward to our chat on the 6th
Nice job! We enjoy your style. Please invest in a microphone you can clip on your shirt. we will be able to hear you better when you get into the hives. Two thumbs UP!
Yessir Bruce put me on to some nice ones after I sell a few beehives I’m gonna try to get me a pair 👌🏻
Awesome job…The bee sting at 24:14 sounded like a good one
Palm shot 😂
Good on ya! We got tons of drones down here and already did 2 rounds of grafts. Doing another one tomorrow alongside splits.
holy cow yall are already cranking them out
Gotta do something or they'll go to the trees on us!
Great video.
Yard looks great i would be interested in trying to get a queen from you for some different genetics
Good stuff!
Keep feeding us Seth. We’re insatiable
Great vid Seth. Hope yer allergies lighten up soon, I know how that goes.
they cleared up in about two days after the fact I had to speak and be on camera LOL thank you
great video... sorry about the allergies.
Thank you I edited out as much as I could 😅😂
Good on ya seth
Thanks for your videos. Could you please do a video on your queen rearing and cell builder?
Will be filming that process this Thursday 👍🏻
Great video Seth. Keep them coming. Question I didn't see you pull your drone frames do you keep an eye on them to help you decide when it's right to graft or do you just go be the calendar
Thanks for now.
In the future it’ll probably be a bit of both not all colonies have one so I just for now have been going by the calendar
Will you do a video on what to look for when inspecting a hive?
Absoloutley 👍🏻
❤👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Where do the Robber Bees come from?
I did sub to you from Lafayette Louisiana and been watching DirtRooster and Mr. Ed on there channels for years.
There’s a lot of beekeepers around me that open feed and they get trained to rob it’s not terrible but it’s not fun. Small colonies get picked on easy
Does Bob know that you hauled off all of his Best Boxes? 😂🤣😜
Not yet I’ll tell him after I get em sold LOL
Finally learn something ,Love that burb lol.
How do I order few queens from?
You can email me @appalachianbeeranch22@gmail.com
seth,
how long does it take ya to go through a yard like that on your own.
thanks
Paul from ireland
Eah depends what we’re doing really organizing the brood nest it’ll take a good full day when the days are short
Question for you mister Seth… what does Bob charge for his lids? I want to buy some
Great video sir! If you don’t mind me asking, what are you using to film your videos with?
i believe its an Iphone 12 im not exactly sure ive had it for a few years LOL
Do you keep a track of how much syrup you pump into the hives . Peter Australia 🇦🇺
I used to but I stopped last year I kinda lost track and found that if they need feed you just feed em 👍🏻
What kind of plywood do you use for your hive tops GREAT VIEDO
I have a little bit of everything most of what I have is parafin dipped cheese press wood we got from a factory in Wisconsin
extra work but screen and staple gun plugs holes fast
I use expanding fome glue to fix hive body's. When dry sand it down, works great.
What do you use in your smoker?
I use a combination of pine straw and wood pellets, if I am going to be working all day. if not i just pack the pine straw in real tight for one or two yards.
Do you have bears in your area? That is my biggest fear placing hive in the backwoods. A bear wrecked some hives outside Raleigh NC.
We do up north down south they are not really an issue
I hadn’t heard about that. I’m just an hour north of Raleigh. Man. That’s tough.
Do you have ant issues and if so how do you deal with them?
Any kinda of home cheapo any bait works be very cautious not to sprinkle any in the colony because bees will eat it to just stir the nest up with your foot or a hive tool and sprinkle some in gone in a few days
Seth, why would my 3 hives that are next to each other start fighting after an inspection?
They are probably trying to rob on each other of you leave them open for very long and there is no nectar flowing they will try to steal it from each other
lol blue painter tape cover all holes you dont want
It does not last long now duck tape it the tape to use
Duct tape does good for holes
What pump setup do you have?
I was using a flojet 4.9 GPM diaphragm I will be looking to upgrade to a REMCO fatbpy which is a 6.5-7 GPM diaphragm will probably be doing a video on that in a few weeks
What breed of bees do you have they seem to be quit calm.
These were the carni Caucasian cross I. Their time down south they have become quite defensive from robbing so much I theorize but idk for sure.
@@sethhillABR I'm from lowndes county. I got a hive last year from around and they became so hot I wouldn't bet they hadn't African strain introduced. So much I uthinized the hive for surounding safety. When I have to walk dam near a football field before they back off a bit..there just to dam hot. im starting a few more hives this year just wondered the strain for the calmness of them.
Caucasian is about as gentle as it gets you’d probably have to keep introducing genetics to keep the line but they are gentle
Why do you have your feeder in the bottom box?
When it’s cold it’s better to keep it against the brood nest in the bottom they are so big now it probably wouldn’t matter
@@sethhillABR I find when it’s cold the brood is in the top box?
@@3Beehivesto300 it can be we tend to move it into the bottom to create space above so the queen doesn’t feel like she’s running out of space
Where are you located
I personally live in Lakemont Ga where this was filmed is in Hahira Ga
Are you going to be selling mated queen's. If so how do I get a hold of you
I am you can reach me at appalachianbeeranch22@gmail.com
@@sethhillABR Thank you I will write you soon
beeks
If I did not wear a bee suite my bees would eat me alive there is not sound on this computer so where are u at down south it must be warm u take and work for Bob when do u have time to work your own bees Is jury duty over have a great day
Yes fortunately they selected the jurors before I even had to hit the stand I have very gentle bees that’s why we like the Caucasians and I usually go on the weekends so it doesn’t interfere with bobs schedule to much
How do I go about gettin two of them thar Caucasian and carnie queens !!
Just email me through appalachianbeeranch22@gmail.com and we can get you on the books 👍🏻
@@sethhillABR I have s
bee vids
No bear fence Seth
Not that far south they are around but it’s few and far betweeen
Fair bit of robbing going on... no top feeding now huh?
no sir not necessarily because of the robbing its easier to have a feeder that the bees can get to directly while not having to worry about wind and rain and stuff while your away for two weeks is the main reason for inhive feeding only
@@sethhillABR bees don’t have direct access to a top bucket? And as an fyi I’m from northern Ohio and I just dropped 10 nucs down south. Another young buck trying his hand at commercial work! Good luck to us both eh?
I imagine the buckets blowing off create quite the externality….
@@johnemmenecker4859 they do but if it gets blown away by a storm theres a big hole up top and no more feed so the inhive is a good way just to keep things kinda simple unless you run singles then it gets tricky
just work on you sound
I like your video and your personality but hearing you snort and belch is old.
