I have watched a lot of bee videos but have no hands-on experience (yet) so I was pleased with myself when I spotted the queen as soon as you pulled the frame out that she was on (before you pointed her out) a couple minutes into the video. Great information, thank you! I liked and subscribed. ❤
best tip I got so far is not to use too much smoke. Sets the bee to "running" rather than going about there regular routine. Much harder to find her when there running.
hello Doc, I did some hive inspections on the 1st of March. all have started laying eggs, some capped brood and one hive with capped drone brood. surprised by that, I will watch that hive closely.a timely video and yours look to be doing great.
Hey Stanley, that sounds awesome! That’s good you’re noticing drone brood. I’ve only seen it in one of my hives so far. And thanks, my bees are doing great; I am planning for an amazing year with them and for yours!🐝
Good stuff. Thanks for the tips. I have been through hundreds if not thousands of colonies, though I am better at finding the queen she can still be elusive at times.
My daughter & I found and marked 2 out of our 3 queens last weekend. Hive #2; however, she must've been on a walkabout... Thanks for these tips, we're going to try again this weekend so we can isolate her and test/treat for Varroa like we did the other 2.
Hey Andrew! Yes, I love them! I have not been stung through these gloves so far😅. These are by far my favorite gloves that I’ve ever used. Here’s a link to the exact ones you saw, just be sure to choose your size: amzn.to/4bXr24n They also make them with mid-length cuffs for over-the-sleeve protection, here: amzn.to/3T2Dg35 Can’t wait to hear what you think of them!🐝🐝
Okay, it should work now. I tested it out and was directed to the sign up page. Thank you for letting me know. If it still has issues, please let me know again!🐝
Hey Paula, I'm happy you enjoyed the video! I appreciate your feedback about the music, I try to turn it down when I want my viewers to hear the bees but now I will make especially sure of that. Thank you ;)
Well your frame was half empty. When it would be full, completely full then it becomes a challenge. I already did 2 attempts. No luck so far. Finding in a split will be much easier than in a beehive.
This is a much needed video. Doc, today I plan on removing the hotbox and change my bottom boards from sold to screen. I may look at a few frames. I’m thinking about doing my 1st OA vape, should I wait to treat since I will be disturbing the hive in a major way? Today I should see sunny with temperatures in the mid to high 50’s possibly 60-62f. Thx for your videos, especially this one.
Great plans! I would go ahead and OAV after switching out bottom boards. The bees can handle it and they’ll begin to settle down with just a few hours. Especially if you’re having 60F weather. Great question!🐝
Hi. Thanks for sharing the video, it's always useful to learn new tips :-) I have to mention though that the brood comb is very dark and the brood cappings are a little uneven and sunken too.... wondering if you're planning and changing that comb out for fresher, cleaner stuff? :-)
I spotted straight away by the look , can't believe
Nice!!! 🐝🐝
Got into all 4 hives today and found 3 queens from last year and signs of the 4th.
Sounds like a good day to me!! Very cool man! 🐝

Very cool!! Nicely done! I wish I could be there when you spot your very first one in person too! I appreciate you subscribing ;)

You got that right! Should’ve put that one in the video for sure 😉🐝. Thanks Jeffery😁

Wow you must be magician lol That was great trick to spot the queen!
Haha😅 Sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn’t!😂🐝

She can be elusive, you got that right!
Great idea thank you very much😍😍
You’re welcome as always!🐝

Nice!! You’re welcome and I appreciate you telling me what you’re up to with your bees 🐝
I like those gloves you have. Do you like them and do they keep bees from stinging you? I’m thinking about getting some

👍
News letter link doesn't work :(
Thank you! I will check it out and fix it 🐝🐝

gonna say check the dark side first
Like for Sith Lords?😉
Great video. The music drowns out the sound of the bees. Too bad. Not sure why people feel they need it.

@thehivedoctor13 I love music in the intro but the sound of the bees is the best!
Agreed!😉🐝
Please do away with the music
I tried the tip of viewing the frame from an angle and sure enough, I spotted her. Up until then I had almost never been able to find her! Great tip!
Nice!! I appreciate knowing that helps!🐝🐝

You got this!😉. It works on full frames too. Just happened to be the one for this video. It’s a challenge with dark queens for sure.
Very helpful. I'm getting better at spotting my queens. Are you located in the southeast?
Cool, good job! Yes, I am in north Georgia, the Southern Appalachian foothills.

Where did you get your solar net fence from ?
Hey, I get it from Premier One Netting. It may be linked in the description of this video to Amazon but their website is better.
btw this hive looks starving

You’re right about that! And yes, this year I will begin recycling out my beeswax 🐝
I have 6 hives and I can rarely find my queens. I just look for eggs. But I watched your video and spotted your queens instantly. What the heck??? LOL
That’s awesome man!! So glad to hear that 😅🐝🐝
I think mine always run and hide, they are very hard to find but I do occasionally
@bud5084 They probably do!😂
