You took your time and did everything you could to make it look great! Respect on a job well done.l want to paint my Mossberg 500 because l just upgraded to a tacgical setup and the receiver is junky looking.
I'm fine with an ultra budget Krylon camo paint job in the backyard. I have found out the hardway that this bluing finish does NOT take a spray paint coating without prep like you've done. Giving me inspiration for sure.
I bought some Rustoleum FDE to paint my 18.5" maverick 88. Going to keep the furniture black, I think it's going to come out awesome. Thanks for the video.
I say it will and thanks.. my 88 still like the day I finished it. When u get it finished I'd like to see it if you wouldn't mind shooting few pics to my way
@@HillsandGills Id be happy to send you some photos when I’m done. I’m not sure if UA-cam has a messaging feature or if you want to shoot me your email address?
Love this ! Just bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 Security model. I am getting some great ideas from this & appreciate all the pro tips like warmin up spray cans etc.
Spray nozzles get some lol and every coat trade for a new one. Plus this is my home defense/woods gun and since the build its been put through the test love the Maverick solid gun . Brownells paint 2👍🏻👍🏻s up baking is key. Thanks for dropping a comment , anything or tips hollor at me be happy to help
Thanks so much been so busy I've been wanting to get a video out of slinging some shots out of it will soon also been building a small target range here at home for just that 👌
I totally understand why Mossberg chose to use the bluing on their Maverick models for cost cutting knowing that overtime, the finish won’t stand to the humid environment when the firearms is used a lot due normal wear and tear. I wouldn’t mind paying extra if came standard from the factory with that parkerized finish. Thank you for this gem of a video that you put together. Very helpful indeed.
I appreciate you stopping by and checking out the video hope all's well up North I've always wanted to visit Canada and do some fishing and hunting. Watched a lot of shows from up there awesome lands and water ways looks like a outdoorsman dream LOL . Stay safe my friend and have a great day
Do you know if there’s a difference between the maverick 88 and the security model? I have the m88 witb the foldable stock and want to do this your shotgun looks great
With this paint you don't wont no oil on it removing the blue oil ect. Then layering the paint and a bake the barrel is sealed from the elements. The gun I did is still going strong and paint holding great. Baking is key
I own a Maverick 88 as well, I really like how that sage green color looks. It looks like it is kind of rough on the surface as well, have you seen any of the color come off after using the slide a couple times? Really good video, I'm probably going to use your video as a guide on how to do mine. Thanks.
I checked them out for my Glock 10mm was thinking of replacing it with something, something new . On the shotgun it would be an awesome choice for sure. But I went with the fiber optic because I put a low profile light on the magpul forend. And when powered on at night it makes that fiber glow like a star. And lightning fast to target with it not just day but night as well. And for about 12bucks I got the sight and 4 replacement colors. Thanks for the info on the sight replacement 👍🏻
From past experiences baking and just allowing the peace to dry for 2 + weeks. I've found a good bake really cures the paint to the gun. And between the 2 the baked holds up better to everyday use in the field. It's like that's what the paint is made for. The Mossberg I did after lots of shots down range in out trucks on tables and so on looks as good as day I finished it. But if you go with just a paint and dry make sure to allow it to cure for at least 2wks
Awesome no chips dings I also did my .22 with same can of paint and posted a video as well on it. I ordered another can earth brown for my Turkey gun baking to me is key just as much as getting it cleaned 👌
Hey man I love what you're doing with that 88 do you have a video of when it was completely done and maybe shooting it I was looking on your page and my eyes aren't so good maybe you could send me a link and be very nice of you greetings from Vermont have a happy holidays
Hello from Kentucky will be in next few weeks hopefully. We are building a private target range here at my house. And yes I'm going have the old boom stick out first. But on update it's been awesome. With the big red dot 25 yards it rifles slugs Thanks for stopping by will tag you soon with the video. Happy Holidays to you and yours

That alumahyde rattle can finish came out looking great.
Thanks..... and it's still holding strong a little update on it

The way you hung the parts in the oven was brilliant.
Thanks

Beautiful job!

So sorry late reply I have both 88 models and can interchange stocks between them again sorry been very busy hope this helps on the stock
Came out awesome but id imagine it wont suck oil into the metal like a true parkerized finish?
With this paint you don't wont no oil on it removing the blue oil ect. Then layering the paint and a bake the barrel is sealed from the elements. The gun I did is still going strong and paint holding great. Baking is key
Bro you did that awesome
Thanks 👍🏻
Doing a .22 and a muzzle loader next 2wks one in earth brown
Awesome video! I wanted to learn how to do this. How well does the paint finish hold up after you bake it?
Thanks, On your question it's holding up great no problems paint still rocking

Is that olive drab green? That is a nice color
Parkerized gray
Hey can you make an shopping list for me im gonna do this to my gun
Ever think of installing the xs big dot sight to replace the front bead ? Opticsplanet has them

Hey man is it necessary to cure the paint in an oven? Will the paint not last as long?
From past experiences baking and just allowing the peace to dry for 2 + weeks. I've found a good bake really cures the paint to the gun.
And between the 2 the baked holds up better to everyday use in the field.
It's like that's what the paint is made for.

But if you go with just a paint and dry make sure to allow it to cure for at least 2wks
Did you use the oven in your kitchen, or do you have a separate oven for this sort of thing?
I use a Kitchen oven when using Brownells. It gives off little to no odor and doesn't leave any after odor
will these improvements also apply to the Mossberg 500?
Yes what I purchased was for the 500
How is the parkerized finish holding up?
Awesome no chips dings I also did my .22 with same can of paint and posted a video as well on it. I ordered another can earth brown for my Turkey gun baking to me is key just as much as getting it cleaned 👌
@@HillsandGills Thank you so much for your response. I really enjoy your content and am thinking about doing a similar build myself. God bless
