Hey I am an artist. I can't afford the work book just yet, I'm on disability. I have made a few videos so far and would love advice. you can email me if you like
haha " rewatch as much as you want." that was a clever one. i like that. And I am sure I will because this video will be very useful in the future. What do you think about if you want to actually have an actual description as well beyond keywords, timestamps and links?
Hehe thanks! I definitely do use the description as a place to actually describe things and to put keywords in. I cherry picked descriptions that did use lots of keywords for this video, but you could also have the first half of your description be super informative and light on keywords (but why not put them in if you can?) and another description after the time stamps and links that’s more keyword focused. Cathrin Manning’s video descriptions are a good example of this!
Ok this video was LOADED with so much technical advice! Usually I feel like this kind of videos are way more vague and focused on a kind of "believe in your dreams, don't focus on numbers" kind of mindset. I wasn't expecting to be served with so much relevant strategy content. Thank you Kelsey! I don't have an art youtube channel, but you almost made me want to start one
Literally the most informational youtube advice video I've seen in years. Other creators give you the simple "make content people want to see" but we all obviously think that whatever we're making is what people should want to see, they never go over the tools to actually objectively find out how we'll stand among the others. Thanks for the info, as always!
that research tab that shows you what people are searching for is the most useful thing anyone's every told me about growing a channel. Everyone usually says "do whats trendy" or "provide something people need" but this is so helpful for picking a direction
Im actually thinking about starting a channel though I'm not really sure about what the theme is going to be. I'm leaning more towards videogames and art because those are my interests. I'll try to throw stuff at the algorithm and see what sticks. This video was pretty helpful so I think I'll use that extension!
I like that! You might find that having two separate channels for those interests would help you grow faster, but there’s definitely ways to merge those interests, like talking about the art style of the games, focusing on concept art, etc. Gaming shorts are doing REALLY well at the moment, so if you’re thinking about it, now’s then time to really capitalize on shorts!
Love your work! I'm starting my channel in English now and it has been a struggle. I have a 17k subscribers channel in Brazilian Portuguese, so the comparison is inevitable. The way you handle even a small view count with a lot of positivity is really inspiring. Keep up the great work!
Wow Kelsey, I just started watching this social media playlist of yours, and I love it! I haven't been too involved in youtube, but watching all your videos is giving me new motivation to start posting more and being more involved in this community!
Hi Kelsey, I uploaded a new video last week and actually spend some time researching SEO. I applied all your tips from the video and it is working! I even got a comment that someone found me while searching on a certain topic. Thank you for tips and the amazing work your do!!
It really helps seeing other people make these types of videos for different themes, and it helps people like me who enjoy writing, painting/drawing, and gaming A LOT- love your content!!
From one artist to another, thank you so much for this video. I am about to go all in on my channel and this video was perfect to watch before the journey.
Just discovering your channel! It is really encouraging to hear that one of your videos started gaining traction a while after you posted it. I get so discouraged if a video of mine I thought might get more views than usual doesn’t do well in a week lol
oof yeah, I definitely feel that. My top videos right now only performed alright upon release, but months later they're getting hundreds of views a day. Making searchable, evergreen content definitely increases your chances of a video taking off randomly weeks or months down the line, I think. Stick with it, you'll get there.
Hey, I just wanted to give you a quick recognition because this video really helped me a lot!!! I'm not even kidding. I am starting my life as an artist on UA-cam and I cannot wait to share all my ideas with everyone, especially now that I know how to go around the SEO, and analytics.
I want to say thank you!! All your videos are motivating me to re-start re-born my artistic side. After a divorce, depression, mental health and start over in a different sate. I am actually taking notes, you are awesome and i feel your positivity through the screen. *Virtual Hug*

hi kelsey, once again im watching all of your videos cause i made the descision to quit my job (which consumes like 10 hours a day at my day) and try to start my journey as an artist ful ltime too, i'd love to have your blessing, ive been watching your videos for months now, and i admire you so much!! i hope i dont fail, but your vibe and words really encouraged me to take this decision, thanks!!!
Thank you for this! fellow artist here about to switch from insta to youtube. Somehow insta is changing their algorithms again so I am again going to try to continue here on youtube. And your video's just are of a huge inspiration and help. I learned that montaging can be very time consuming and consistency is key, so I hope to do a live stream/montage combo each once a week so I have to montage only one video a week (else I lose too much time on producing glass art)
Hey Kelsey! I'm at the starting gate on my channel now, so these tips are super relevant to me. I already know some SEO, just need to update my skills. Thanks for all you do. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi there! Just discovered your channel and yaaay I'm your 900th subscriber ! 😂💕 Love your advice and how you explained everything in such an easy and understandable way ! Thank you so much for these tips! I look forward to watching more of your videos ☺💕💗
Aaaah!!!! THANK YOU! Just finished editing a new video, it'll go live tomorrow morning! If there's any topic I could cover that you'd really appreciate learning more about, don't hesitate to let me know!
Kelsey, your videos are always so helpful! SEO has definitely been a big factor in growing my channel, and videos like yours help me better understand how to use it correctly. Thank you!! 💛
Your videos have helped me out so much! I've learned so much from this video alone and I'm excited to apply the things you talked about to my own videos! Thanks for being so open and honest about creating content!!
I'm rewatching this video and as I remembered this so informative and there so many good advice. Defenitly gonna use it to try growing my smal channel. Thank you so much Kelsey 🥺
I love your videos Kelsey and I watch them over and over. They are so helpful. I was wondering what program you use to create you thumbnails? They are very eye-catching!
If becoming an artist is your goal and you’re intimidated by the work it takes to grow on platforms like Instagram, I really recommend UA-cam. It’s a great jumping off platform for things like Patreon and an online shop. If you start and want some feedback on your content, don’t hesitate to reach out! 💕✨
I would recommend the cheapest plan if you really need it, this video is three years old at this point and tube buddy is getting substantially less useful for creators
Thank you so much for this video, I'm realizing why my videos didn't kick off since I really wasn't doing things correctly, will change things now, love your channel :)
Search focused content has definitely helped me, but it's for sure an uphill battle. Consistency in terms of both effort and improvement will help you get there though!!
Watching this video and how to grow from 0 do 40k helps me sooo much and gives me hope that my art channel will be sucesfull over time as well. :) I watched those 2 videos like 15 times :) Keep up the good work!
I found your channel from the video on how artists can make money. I have since subbed. You have lots of good videos. I am a digital artist but a lot of them are still helpful.
Thank god I finally found this video..so much informative ideas and tips to use for my art channel improvement!🙏 I have been struggling for building up my channel, well I'm newbie who just flop into art industries btw...nice to meet you....👋
I began my channel on a whim and it's been almost 2 years with a lot of effort and ( seemingly ) no results. I greatly appreciate and am grateful for it though, since it has forced me to build my character to be ready to even have an audience. I'm still starting out. It's definitely better to be more logical and see what works. After 91 videos, I can fairly say quality over quantity is likely the best move. Thank you for making this video!
I’ve started this cannel literally some days ago as a way to step away my comfort zone and to show people my hobbies such as digital art and journaling (more like scrapbooking). I’m watching all kind of those videos since it’s my very first youtube experience as a content creator and honestly my knowledge is very very low about how those things works😂😂
This really did help me a lot! I’ve been stuck at under 1k for over 2 years and I haven’t been getting any new views or subs and been suck at 302/303 subs. I had a HUGE upbringing through in one of my old videos from a year ago that has now 50k views and gained me 200 more subs at that time. Thank you for your advice
These are great tips. I guess keywords and thumbnails do work. It's hard to compete for attention. It's frustrating when I put much effort on my work and then it gets ignored online. 😓
Thank you so much for these tips ❤️❤️ I’ve been making art videos for few months but struggling to get any views and subscribers. Now I now what things to change for sure. Definitely will check out more of your videos🔥
I checked out your channel and you have beautiful contents and your thumbnails are lively and they inspired me! I am your new subscriber 😍. I too has a small art channel, trying to improve and first thing to do…i need to change my thumbnails 😅💜
I've been on UA-cam for around a year and a half. I think I've followed tips after tips from experts but haven't found any success so far. Nonetheless, I keep looking for ways to improve my channel. I'm glad to have come across your channel. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Hey Bookish! I was curious so I checked out your channel and I think a huge area of potential improvement would be to try and work on your thumbnails a bit more! Try to communicate the video idea as visually as possible, using four words for any text in the thumbnail. Check out other creators in your niche that are on the rise to see what they’re doing and maybe give that a go!
So, I've got lots of editing to do today. I'm working on several Iceland/Sketchbook Videos and everyday I watch a youtube video while I eat my breakfast first. So today youtube offered me your "I'm getting off Instagram" video. (I'm guessing UA-cam wants us all to abandon instagram/facebook for youtube, because I wasn't searching anything like that. I can't say they are wrong.) Anyway, I think this video (and your last) are fantastic for a new channel like myself. Right now I've got a backlog of footage I'm super excited to share so I'm not sure I'll be changing what I create but I will consider my titles and thumbnails more carefully. Also, I'll be checking out workbook and I'm now subscribed.
Fantastic advice!!💜🙌 love the bit about going against status quo, the thumbnails are all dark, there’s an opportunity for something bright!! Great point!
Thank you so much for such helpful content! I wish i had found this video earlier when i first started my channel a bit over a year ago. But only this year 2022 that i start to really want to get my channel going. I had 33 subscribers before and when i started being more active this year, my subscribers grew just a mere bit to 44 😅 even though I tried to upload every single day. After watching your advice, i think i should change all of my thumbnails and add more key words in my descriptions 😬.💜
I don't like making search driven content, it's kinda boring to film lol I don't care if I get like 3 views, I make my videos for fun, so they better be fun to make Edit: now you might woner why I watched this video in the first place, it's because I love your personality and content ❤️
That’s completely valid! I definitely have significantly more fun when I can do more creative editing, which doesn’t really fit in as well with search-driven content. I switch between them regularly to try and reach a happy medium. Anyway, I’m glad you like my content! Thank you so much for watching and leaving lovely comments 🥰

Thank you for sharing!!! I appreciate you information so much. I was wondering what filter you got for your camera? I did not see it in your description but might not know what to look for. Thank you!!!
Good video, as usualy, but I'm wondering why people put music over their talking, as you do here. I couldn't watch the whole video because I just couldn't stand to listen to that same riff play over and over and over and over and over... you get my point! I love your videos. I do not like music in videos when people are speaking Especially not music that plays the same few notes repeatedly.
I was enjoying this video so much but when I just notices to stupid little detail that you are not looking right at the camera was bugging me so much😅😅😅But I just love your content just started watching your channel!!
I actually thought you put that box there on purpose, for like creative vibes, lol. I was even like, "Hm, this is kinda cute" before you started apologizing, haha
Okay so i want to start art youtube in the same sort of path you have but i only have a Samsung phone to record (not great storage or quality) and i don’t think im very good behind a camera, or photogenic advice?
Hi Kelsey! Just starting out and your channel has been so helpful! Thank you :) one question, do you think/know if editing descriptions/tags/title after posting is equally helpful/useful ? Thanks!

This is soo helpful!! Thanks for making this video. This is definitely something I struggle with and videos I feel will be super successful aren’t
You are an inspiration. I really appreciate your videos. I’m going to go for it. Great job!

I learned so much here. Glad to know you, Kelsey ☺
Thanks for the info and all of the details and examples! Most people don't go as in depth!!
Thank you for sharing!!! I appreciate you information so much. I was wondering what filter you got for your camera? I did not see it in your description but might not know what to look for. Thank you!!!
In this video I used a Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/4!
@@KelseyRodriguez THANK YOU so much and for answering so quickly
I'm start my art youtube and this video is very help me to grow my channel. Thank you
Good video, as usualy, but I'm wondering why people put music over their talking, as you do here. I couldn't watch the whole video because I just couldn't stand to listen to that same riff play over and over and over and over and over... you get my point! I love your videos. I do not like music in videos when people are speaking Especially not music that plays the same few notes repeatedly.
Hey Janina, I feel you! My recent videos don't have background music anymore.
Great video Kelsey! Lots of great information, very helpful ...:)
Thanks so much! 🥰
This video really helped me :) I tried it just now, and surely it will help me in future content creation. I did not know before such service exists.

I actually thought you put that box there on purpose, for like creative vibes, lol. I was even like, "Hm, this is kinda cute" before you started apologizing, haha
This is such a great video. Thank you for sharing your wonderful content.
All of this information helps a ton 🥰🤗 I'm going to put these tips to the test !!
Thank you for making this video! I got some great information from it!
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks!
editing the title and thumbnail after upload is EXTREMELY helpful in my experience!
