I don't care if Ethel has a decibel range in the fighter jet in take off, she and Fred Astaire singing are adorable together! Thank you for posting this wonderful treat of a by-gone era! What class! What style! Brilliant!
Watching Astaire singing a Gershwin medley at the opening of the show and dancing simultaneously is worth the price of admission. Astaire had completed three of his "An Evening With" specials in 58, 59 and 60 and he had one more to film in 68. Sensational!
I can't think of anyone who looked better in a suit than Mr. Astaire. No, he was not as he was in the 1930s but 90% of Astaire is worth 150% of most of today's entertainers. And the shoes!
How appropriate to end with “who could ask for anything more”! The ultimate!! And how wonderful to hear the audience applaud and their shouts of appreciation for these two great entertainers.
After all these years, way after i use to see the show ,when i was a kid ,I got the title straight .For years i got this confuse with Caesars palace in Las Vegas and had thought the show was shot there .How stupid of me to think that .It was in Hollywood.
It's interesting to see Astaire and Merman together, as of course they never co-starred in a film. And Marcel Marceau, who one imagines Astaire admired, on the same show!
Veteran New York announcer Phil Tonken announces the "America's Electric Light and Power Companies" commercial [15:03] AND the 4-Way ad at 32:47. His "home base" at the time was WOR-AM and WOR-TV in New York........
Where have all the balancing, juggling and tumbling acts gone? This is what made variety shows (Ed Sullivan had the same type of acts) of yesterday so great these types of acts and performances. Fred Astaire was already in his 60's where he hosted the palace, so the fact he can still move and do movement which still looks good, makes him alone a unique talent. You have a lot of dancers that retire from the game early due to illness or serious injuries. Not a fan of Ethel Mermans voice it was cackling and screechy - loud - nauseating! She was always singing that song, "No business, like Shoe business" , kind of like Ms Girl, Kate Smith and her "God Bless America", her Anthem not America's anthem but Hers!!! Every time Ms. Girl was on TV, she had to do that song!
Pat Morita is really cool. Ethel Merman is alright, but it's always the same shtick about her being one of the big belters... Astaire's abilities have waned at this point, but his hosting ability is admirable.
it's cool seeing Astaire. Michael Jackson as a child every Saturday morning would go to Fred Astaire's house and they would dance to Soul Train. this went on for years. can u imagine the dancing being done by those two?
Astaire's face is awfully thin. Did he cut off half his jaw on each side to look like an ice cream cone? Very cool vintage images, thank you for uploading!
…. And you would have missed out on a rare television performance and two great entertainers. I was 11 at the time but even then I appreciated Ethel Merman and though I never really liked Fred Astaire, I knew he was a great talent. You underestimate the young kids because we would watch television with the whole family.

Jack Jones is an amazing singer....loved his LP "Without you".....he was, and still is, superb.
Ethel had some set of powerful pipes! She was GREAT!
Oh, how I miss those great variety shows! There just is no entertainment on TV anymore - thank heavens for UA-cam.
The medley with Fred and Ethyl is priceless.
This is an absolute treat! Thanks for sharing.
💞LOVE AND BLESSED 💖🌹🙏

BRAVO to the Rogge sisters and the Hardy family!
They equaled Astaire and Merman in terms of talent, perfection and excellence.
Marcel Marceau--excellent...
The play between Merman and Astaire is worth the price of admission.

Love these types of shows! now it's how fast can I move my butt! sad
I am amazed at Pat Morito saying "like" so much. I thought that didn't come in until the late 80s.

What a treat! Reagan became California Governor in 1967, so Fred's comment was prescient! (But the program dates 1966...)
but he started running in 1966 and won Nov 1966, was sworn in Jan 2nd at 10 minutes past midnight
LOU: I hate it when you look like that!
MARY: Like what?
LOU: Like that...like an ad for Radio Free Europe!
...Astaire was 67 here !
Unbelievable... Looks and dances great.....!!!!!!
20 years later Pat Morita did become a Giant!
Marsue was wonderful.
"Does Ronny Reagan dance?" Lol!

Anybody ever call you Debbie Downer? They're legends. Nuff said.

Boy pat Morita jokes were edgy for that time.they seemed to record all their future episodes ahead of time.
Dejen a. Ast aire hacdr lo suyo bailar.
