Sorry for replying a year later BUT imagine a scene where Rosa’s talking about her experiences as a bi person attraction wise and Jake’s just in the background like wait that’s not normal?? Guys, that’s not normal??? Guys???? And then either it isn’t touched on till later (if it’s cause it’s Rosa centric and her sexuality) or he talks to Rosa and she either brings him to Holt or Amy like I can’t talk to him about this you do it.
He's both "Straight guy who's not afraid to admit when guys are hot because lack of toxic masculinity" and "Bi guy who's a huge disaster with daddy issues"
After reading the comments, whether he’s bi or “straight but comfortable in his sexuality”, the writers made a really good choice in not overcompensating either way.
@@Urmomisdele in other words gay baiting (which is not cool). I don't think that's their intention, I think they just wrote in gay jokes occasionally, then they didn't want to make a hard line and say 'no this character is STR8" like they would have 20 years ago. So instead they ended up playing up his non-hetero sexuality
Right after it he says: "should I become an actor?" (conveniently cut out of course) which basically proves he was, in fact, demonstrating. I mean, this whole video the whole squad does the same things he does. Scully: "that's a handsome man" ; Boyle: "meow!" ; ... Soooooo.. they're all bi? (Stop trying to make things yours just 'cause you feel alone and underappreciated (which in fact anyone lgbtq+ _is_ unfortunately). That's not rude (I mean it is but), it's the truth.)
The writers of his show are like that button meme where the choice is ‘Having Jake be straight because we need more men in media that are open and sensitive and vulnerable and love their guy friends’ and ‘Having Jake be Bi because we need more Bi Men in the media’
the best evidence is that Charles also exibits no signs of toxic masculinity and is super close with his male friends and show physical and emotional affection but he doesnt give of bi-vibes
it's because he doesn't wear hoodies, plaids or leather jackets (except that cool charles episode), but he feels gay to me if we forget his ex wife and geneviev(ian)
Although of course, the further into the future we move, the more comfortable ppl will feel identifying as bi, which means there will presumably be less traits that bi ppl have in common (which i know is like half a joke anyways no worries), so point being don't count anyone out of being bi (or any other queer identity for that matter!). But at the same time yes i see your point and it is nice to see that kind of character represented too

I'm torn between wanting him to be another example of a bi person who is still bi even when married to a person of the opposite sex or just a man who has no toxic masculinity that affects his ability to compliment other men and be platonically intimate with them.
Ikr same! I'd love for both of them as they would both be great representation. But I saw some other comments as well, talking about how both Charles and Terry have mentioned on occasion about hot/attractive men. Not as much as Jake, but still, Charles and Terry could be great examples of completely straight men who are comfortable in their sexuality and can compliment other men platonically. Which would also leave a spot for Jake being a comfortable Bi in an opposite-sex relationship.

@@crystalcollision5432 fuck it is??? that makes so much sense. I (female and bisexual) had an ex who was male and bisexual. I haven't come out to my parents because I don't feel comfortable with that but I wanted to be out at the same time so I settled for letting my parents and friends know that he was bi instead. still out by proxy but not actually outing myself
Vortual Yeah, but you can’t say he’s not bi. These people don’t KNOW that he is, they just believe 99.999999%. I agree, but i don’t know. You don’t know.
Hendrick Lamar yeah I know what you mean. My personal opinion is that saying he’s bi is a bit far fetched and unrealistic, but the great thing about tv shows like B99 not telling us one way or the other is that we can think whatever way we want and build up our own image of the characters to our liking.
Why is everyone saying this, what did I miss? Is it like a reference to something? Like, I know who John Mulaney is and I agree with the statement, but why did it come out of nowhere?
Not sure if I want Jake to be a closeted bi who had past experiences with men or a closeted bi who is recently realizing that he is bi. Would also make a perfect example of a bisexual person in a straight relationship who is still bi.
Sarah S honestly personally i think it would be a really cool take if it was something he realized more recently because that storyline isn’t explored that much, but either way i’d be happy!!
I feel like they already did the coming out thing with rosa (and jake is really obvious about it), so I'd prefer if it was like a known thing that only hitchcock and scully are surprised by. PLEASE let john mulaney play his ex boyfriend from high school!!!

Honestly, I think the one who is straight but just comfortable with his sexuality is Boyle. Jake really feels more like a bi person who hasn't realized yet that he's bi. A lot of these scenes remind me when I still didn't admit to myself that I was bi and i was like "oh yeah i have a crush on this girl but like that doesn't mean I'm not straight haha".
@@milenaber8346 I mean you can appreciate a male’s physique without them being attracted to them. I think Hugh Jackman is hot but I am still straight. Kinda the same with a lot of these. (And the skin suit one is just jake being a masochist, has nothing to do with holt saying it)
Ok but him walking Rosa through coming out felt WAY too personal, he even hesitated before saying the word "bi." Idk, just my opinion, but it felt like he actually was connected to what he was saying, more than just wanting to help Rosa out. @@coppagh8040 To my knowledge, I might be wrong of course, bisexuality means being attracted to both men and women. Although, some say it means being attracted to your own gender and one other gender. There are those who are attracted to two different genders that are not necessarily male and female but I belive those people usually prefer using the term Queer. So as far as I know, it's generally used as being attracted to men and women.
YEET this is what i’m SAYING!!!!!! jake 100% could be someone just comfortable in his sexuality but i think a better example for that would be charles or terry, jake exudes a different energy than them.
charles and jake have a legit, not-in-quotation-marks-because-they're-implicitly-lovers bromance and charles puts a lot of the "romance" in the bromance. he still reads as mostly straight to me, swishy but straight. swishy straight dudes exist. nake doesn't read as a swishy straight dude to me, he just reads as "bi and doesn't necessarily realize it." it might just be me but his relationship with his former partner has a completely different tone when compared to his relationship with charles. that's just my onion though.
Jimmy Tyler I wanna believe Jake knows he’s bi and is just not out but also part of me loves Jake genuinely not even realizing he’s bi. It’s just too in character

For all the people saying Jake is just comfortable with his masculinity; Boyle and Terry are characters who are comfortable with their masculinity. They are okay with calling other men hot, such as "Hot perp alert" and stuff. Jake however, explicitly stated on several occasions that he had a crush on Slater and other people. And that speech he gave to Rosa was definitely personal. So, you are entitled to your own opinion, provided you don't bash mine
Zoë Nightshade exactly!! people are saying he’s the perfect straight man who has no toxic masculinity and feels comfortable in his sexuality but are forgetting a whole charles and terry exist
Zoë Nightshade Nope, fuck your opinion. That’s the upside of free speech, you can have your opinions, but you can’t complain when people bash you for them when you make them public.
kayla d In this context, nobody. Opinions are malleable, having your own doesn’t put you above criticism. As for what “seongs4ng” said, there’s no such thing as toxic masculinity, it’s an inconsistent term made up by feminists for use in any situation that doesn’t perfectly suit their agenda.
jake in s6 is so funny bc he acts like how a recently out bi guy would act, constantly mentioning how hot he finds a guy and just getting super excited to finally be able to just gush about guys
I mean that would be inappropriate as he is married I think it would be better if Jake was already bi but because he has been in love with Amy for so long there was no reason for it to be brought up
@@elrondmcbong6392 It is, but I never had a sexual attraction towards men. More like an admiration of some of them, in the way you admire the beauty of an artwork or the character of a friend or idol. I never wanted to sleep with any of my friends and making out is more an expression of affection than of desire. Or maybe I am just telling myself that. I honestly don't really care, if I someday want to sleep with a man, I will just accept that. But I never wanted to up until now.
So, I'm perfectly ok with Jake being straight, and I totally ship Peraltiago... But no way, no WAY, is he straight. His speech to help Rosa took a very Jake-esque turn. Even Rosa was questioning what was going on, just watch her face, she actually looks concerned for him. That is not what a straight person would do. No one gets that lost in the moment unless it is personally relatable to them. Okay, diatribe over, have a great gay!!
yeah, he even hesitated before the word "bi," which I feel like is a thing a lot of closeted people, or just lgbtqia people do in general bc it feels super strange to say it out loud. I'm out as ace to my friends and I still hesitate and mumble when I say it. Idk why that stuck out to me so much, but it just seems like something a straight character wouldn't really do, idk though, just my take lmao 😅
theres no straight explanation for that coming out speech. any other scene could be picked apart and seen as just him being the great man he is but i want someone to *look me in my bisexual eyes and tell me straight to my bisexual face that that speech was completely made up and that he didnt have any previous thought on that coming out speech*
i see all the comments saying he's just a straight man who is very comfortable with his sexuality and i raise you one HE LITERALLY ASKED A DUDE OUT LET HIM BE BISEXUAL
Edgar Silverio no because he asks him out in a romantic coded context, he’s afraid of being alone forever and not finding a partner and asks a woman AND a man
ATurtleAteMyTrex I just think he’s tryna have a guys night out. That’s just the way I see it. Don’t overthink it let the man be straight. Once the day comes that he is bi and it’s cannon then ok I was wrong. N I didn’t think of this as bi more like comedy, witch is highly offensive and I apologize but that’s just me. Either way a label is a label and the person he is doesn’t change we all love this character
he's a BICON, as the seasons progress, there are more and more hints to him being actually bi, his speech that he made for Rosa to come out to her parents was so real, LIKE JUST MAKE IT CANON ALREADY
Unpopular opinion: I think the speech was pretty generic tbh. Ya know the whole "Im still the daughter you raised" "Im still everything you taught me to be" Granted he got really into it but I think it was more for humour and the beginning was just him offering genuine advice. Because even if it was generic it is sweet.
s6 gave us so many proofs of bi¡jake i really need an episode where there's a flashback from highschool or something where we met an ex boyfriend pleaseeee
I personally love Jake He's an ADHD, bisexual coded character. Even if he isn't bisexual, he is somewhat coded as BI, and I just love that As someone who is bisexual and has ADHD, we definitely deserve more rep in the media I'm glad that B99 touches on these things, including various other issues
I think it's nice to have a straight man admire other men. Straight women do it all the time and don't get insulted for it. As much as I love some bi representation we need more characters like Jake and Charles.
@@lecherouslibrarian9924 I agree with you, it's very important having straight men represented like Jake and Charles are, it's one of the things I love most about Brooklyn Nine Nine. However, I also think having someone like Jake as an out bi character would be great because it isn't often that you see lgbtq characters portrayed as in a hetero relationship, and I think it would mean a lot to a lot of people to see that. Also, usually with representation they sort of go by a "collect the whole set" sort of system where they have either one gay man, one lesbian etc or two of each so they can make pairings, and I think it would be cool to have two bi people in one show, you know? (also I love that fan concept thing where John Mulaney plays Jake's ex from highschool/college, search it up it's amazing)
When he does a whole speech to rosa when she wasnt sure how to come out to her parents it's just like I don't know any straight people just have that off the top of their head and deliver it with such passion and emotion
honestly im happy to have a married straight white guy in the police who really doesn't care if he's affectionate or appreciative towards men. it's so rare we get male characters like that on TV who so openly express those types of emotions. and when we do see them, they're almost always associated with wanting to bang the same sex, which isn't a bad thing (everyone needs more representation in the media, this is coming from a bi gal). but the fact that we've only ever seen jake be involved with women, it's just niCe to see him openly admit to having crushes on guys and experiencing no shame or stigma doing so. i really hope it's starts a lot of guys doing the same thing. although i'm definitely not gonna pretend jake is entirely heterosexual, that man has some fEELINGS wow
IMO we need more male characters who can show emotion and have healthy relationships with other dudes but, in this case I think we can have that AND bi rep. He's got such a good relationship with Charles and his first partner (I forget his name) in a solely platonic way. Even his relationship with Holt is healthy and emotional (even if it is mostly daddy issues). If they do make Jake bi it's also showing that bi men aren't just attracted to everything and they can actually have strong and meaningful friendships.
well charles is straight and one of the "softest" men we've ever seen, he loves his son more than anything, is incredibly close to jake in a completely platonic way and unapologetically enjoys "feminine" things such as cooking and he expresses his appreciation of good looking men just as much as jake. i personally think that it would be better to keep him as the straight man while making jake bi so it normalises bi people in happy relationships with people from the opposite sex
honestly this show just does away with most typical sitcom tropes, so i have good faith that the writers are going to do well with however they take jake's storyline
@@pesticide271 Agreed, we don't need two straight men like that, when we can have a straight AND a bi man instead. Especially because I never see people get a bi vibe from Charles, even though he and Jake often have conversations about men together. That has to mean something, there's just something different about the way Jake talks about guys. And how beautiful to have such an affectionate friendship between a straight and a bi man too! Also, apart from that, as important as it is to show that it's ok for men to be affectionate with one another and enjoy more "feminine" things, it's even more important to show that men can flirt with men too without it being a joke or them being "just comfortable in their sexuality".
GayLark 666 i would’ve added it but i didn’t really think the context fit, they only kissed as a plan to break out of the jail cell plus they’re both in relationships... i don’t know i just found it kind of weird to be put in the context of this video
I love bi jake: he’s a bi man in a straight relationship which we never ever see! But I also love straight ally anti no homo jake: the only straight character I’ve ever seen that’s an ass at the beginning but accepts women’s rights and gay rights UNCONDITIONALLY!!! Even though he’s straight!!!! So you can see the bind I’m in
Annaliese Cancilla i understand the want for more characters like jake and the “straight ally anti no homo” type of character haha but i think charles and terry also fit that role perfectly!!!!
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if he is bi and just doesn’t realize it. I had been thinking about girls since elementary school but always thought I was straight until I told my best friend in high school that I was straight but “would still be down to get with a girl” and he was like “bb that’s not straight” and he talked to me about bisexuality and everything suddenly made perfect sense. Like I really thought that it was perfectly normal for straight girls to be attracted to girls 😭🤣😭🤣😭
Because I have no life, let's analyse this because I think some of these showcase very perfectly why Jake is seen as bi by so many. So I definitely think that some scenes are pretty much just there to be funny and have no deeper meaning, but I would look at them a little differently if he were to be confirmed bi. These are scenes like "hot perp alert" or "What are you doing after this, Gerald?". Some scenes that are supposed to be funny, however, do seem to go deeper than that, like his "coming out" speech. It feels too genuine to not matter to him as well and I don't feel satisfied with the explanation that he just perfectly managed to see the whole thing from Rosa's persepective. I also believe some scenes featured here show more of a professional admiration rather than attraction. Like when he meets police officers he admires that happen to be good-looking, I think it's obvious he's primarily awkward and interested in them because he admires them professionally. Though again, if he were to be confirmed bi, I think attraction might as well be a part of that. The more compelling scenes, in my opinion, are those where he ernestly agrees with female characters who are into guys that some guy is hot, especially when other straight male characters do not have the same reaction. For example, the very first scene where his facial expression not just shows his agreement with Gina but it's pretty much the same as Amy's as well. Also the second scene where he says he's with Rosa that you can hate someone and still think they're hot AFTER she provides her example and Charles looks appalled. Then there are moments when he admires guys who are physically attractive. I feel like there are three categories: jealousy, admiration and attraction. What matters here, is the tone. When he talks about Melvin, for example, you can tell he's just jealous and Charles points that out as well. It's totally different to how he says "he's so strong" about Terry. However, I do think the tone in which he says that about Terry is still quite different from the one he uses when he says "Brazilian mobsters are so good-looking". There is really no heterosexual explanation for the latter while I find that the comment about Terry could still be read as simple admiration without attraction thrown into the mix. And last but definitely not least, the "there's no heterosexual explanation for this moments". I already mentioned the Brazilian mobsters, but there's also: Brandon Bliss. The way he said "He was hot, Rosa", which I find very different to other times when he described guys as hot. The reaction Gina has when Jake says "We all had a big crush on A. C. Slider, get in line". And especially "My God, you're even more stunning up close" and "You're under arrest, you beautiful man". Like, non of this is heterosexual, not just the statements themselves but especially in combination with his facial expressions and the way he says it. So yeah, when will they finally make it canon that Jake Peralta is bi?
I've never watched this show but this guy is definitely not straight Edit: I just watched the first episode and it was really good! I'll definitely keep watching it during my free time!
i love how the writters of the show didnt make jake extremely straight or bi or gay but just let it be u know? like jake wasn't gay but he was deffinetly not straight and the writters never made it seem like he had an specific sexuality. he kinda just thrived with whatever
here's the story line I want: Jake has an 'old buddy' that he was 'super close with' that calls him up out of the blue/that he runs into. Jake doesn't explain that he's married, and the guy gets the wrong impression....turns out that from the friend's perspective they actually DATED and Jake is 'the one that got away' - hilarity ensues when Jake continually sends the wrong signals and then has to explain to this guy AND AMY that he's not trying to hook up and is happily married. Ends with a really good talk with Kevin (maybe Holt) and the revelation that Jake is maybe a little bi, but no real confirmation because the show likes to do that to us. Also subplot where Hitchcock and Scully have to lose weight to qualify for some police benefit/keep their jobs and Rosa, Charles, and Terry all try to help in different ways. NBC you can just put a check in the mail along with my Emmy, goodnight.
Buddy: yeah so Jake and I dated a while back Jake: yeah yea- wait, we did? B: we dated for like two years. We got each other valentines day gifts J: oh I thought that was platonic! I did have a crush on you but I didn't want to get my hopes up
Most of the guys on the show are comfortable with their sexualities and show a healthy form of masculinity but there’s a reason that nobody considers Charles or Terry as bi. The reason people think Jake is bi is not because he randomly thinks a few guys are attractive, it’s because gay and bi people recognise certain behaviours or even a certain “bi energy” if you will, in him. So yeah, healthy straight masculinity is important, but in a show that has a lot of that ALREADY I think it’s more important to show Bi men which are practically nonexistent in TV
Yep. It’s kinda gone down though in season 7 which leads me to believe he’s not supposed to be bi and the writers don’t like him like that even though I agree
I love Jake being bi, but I think it sends an even bigger message a straight dude being respectful, showing that he is not insecure to compliment guys, and overall just having a positive masculinity! It shows straight men are capable of doing that without being shut off by society, I just think it's a marvellous example to follow.
@@Bentons-Crib... Dude is there really a HAS about it? :/ Like, it'd be really positive if he continued as is or if he came out as bi, acting like one is more vital than the other is a bit shitty towards the bi people who want representation too.
Unpopular opinion, but this is just my thought on it. I think Jake is straight, but he is a perfect example of positive masculinity. Like, he openly cares about his guys friends emotions and opinions, he’s verbally and physically affectionate to them, and overall he can appreciate the fact that guys can look hot too, without wanting to get with them. But if he is bi, cool. I just find straight Jake cool too, cause of how open minded he is and how he treats everyone he loves with the same amount affection.
jack cloud it’s when a dude acts stereotypically manly to an annoying and toxic degree. For example: shaming other men for doing things like crying, thinking that it’s “unmanly” to openly care about friends, etc. (Just google it, you’ll get it)
I think it’s great that Jake maybe Bi. But him being straight and still being able to be say if a guy is not or not should be normalized too. If more straight guys were like Jake , well, I’d date everyone then lmao.

Okay before the coming out clip I just thought this was the LGBT portion of a fandom at it again (I'm bi, I'm guilty of having these same assumptions) but HOLY SHiT he's such a bi mood
Okay so, if we take out some things that a lot of people could interpret as “non-toxic masculinity” there’s still two scenes (maybe more but these two specifically) that I feel like it only means he’s bi. First scene: he literally says he had a crush on a guy, I don’t think any straight man even if they’re super comfortable with their sexuality would say that. Second scene: when he was helping Rosa at first he was of course helping her to come out, but then you can’t denie that it got personal.

PLEASE READ!!!!!!!! i’m getting a lot of comments talking about how him just appreciating men doesn’t mean he’s lgbt and that he’s just someone really comfortable in his sexuality. first of all, if this is the case which it most likely is, that’s GREAT because we need more characters on tv to fit that non-toxic masculinity archetype. however, what i think we need even more of is more lgbt rep, especially bi males who are almost unheard of in the media. i’m not FORCING jake to be anything he is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. and some of you are acting as if i’m trying to dictate the sexuality of a real person which is something i’d never do. you don’t have to agree with me or have the same opinion, but you should respect it because i’m not harming anyone and neither are the people that agree. watching this show as a bisexual person, i immediately felt a connection with him along with rosa and just wished they would be lgbt before we found out that rosa is canonically bi!!!! by wanting this, i’m not calling all effeminate guys gay in any way or saying a straight man can’t call out the beauty of a man, charles and terry are perfect examples of characters who do this and fit that non-toxic masculinity straight man archetype, but with jake i just feel like it’s more than that, especially since he literally asked out a man and confessed to having a crush on one but take it as you will. a lot of these clips are based on underlying subtext so i understand that not all or even none of these clips to you come across as him being lgbt, but they do to me so if you don’t agree just move on it’s NOT THAT DEEP LMAOOO
also this isn’t towards those who believe he’s straight and is just comfortable in his sexuality but is being kind in the comments. many people have been saying that but also saying that they respect those who do believe him to be lgbt and it’s just their opinion which is FINE!! i actually welcome discussing it in the comments. however, to those who are bashing and saying there’s no way and that i’m reaching and how i’m invalid for wanting more characters like me, you might as well just leave because i’m going to delete your comment. this is a safe lgbt space and i’m going to keep it as such

After reading the comments, whether he’s bi or “straight but comfortable in his sexuality”, the writers made a really good choice in not overcompensating either way.
Agreed but I think he’s intended to be someone that gives off bisexual vibes but it never ends up being confirmed

Terry and Charles are comfortable in their sexuality, Jake probably bi curious at least.
There’s also heteroflexible.
i never noticed this before, but that coming out speech example jake did for rosa seemed VERYYYY personal.

even rosa was like "wow hes really getting into it "
I am convinced that he was projecting himself onto the speech
I’m convinced he wasn’t demonstrating for Rosa
That was the first thought I had while watching that scene for the first time.

@Helga Barton, makes sense
He’s pan.
Not as much as Jake, but still, Charles and Terry could be great examples of completely straight men who are comfortable in their sexuality and can compliment other men platonically. honestly im happy to have a married straight white guy in the police who really doesn't care if he's affectionate or appreciative towards men. it's so rare we get male characters like that on TV who so openly express those types of emotions. and when we do see them, they're almost always associated with wanting to bang the same sex, which isn't a bad thing (everyone needs more representation in the media, this is coming from a bi gal). but the fact that we've only ever seen jake be involved with women, it's just niCe to see him openly admit to having crushes on guys and experiencing no shame or stigma doing so. i really hope it's starts a lot of guys doing the same thing.
although i'm definitely not gonna pretend jake is entirely heterosexual, that man has some fEELINGS wow
I’m incredibly conflicted between having Jake as canonly bi or as a heterosexual person comfortable in their sexuality.
They forgot about the time where Jake kissed Holt. I thought for sure that would be in here.

So you can see the bind I’m in
Annaliese Cancilla i understand the want for more characters like jake and the “straight ally anti no homo” type of character haha but i think charles and terry also fit that role perfectly!!!!
seongs4ng that’s true!
Annaliese Cancilla anti no homo?
I think that Jake is bisexual and Charles is that positive masculine guy
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if he is bi and just doesn’t realize it. I had been thinking about girls since elementary school but always thought I was straight until I told my best friend in high school that I was straight but “would still be down to get with a girl” and he was like “bb that’s not straight” and he talked to me about bisexuality and everything suddenly made perfect sense. Like I really thought that it was perfectly normal for straight girls to be attracted to girls 😭🤣😭🤣😭
sometimes it is like if their bicurious
but i get u haha
He comes after me as someone who thinks he straight but is open to the concept that he’s bisexual.
Aaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Same.

I've never watched this show but this guy is definitely not straight
Edit: I just watched the first episode and it was really good! I'll definitely keep watching it during my free time!

Same, I’m probably gonna with it now
macoffeeprettypie I hope you guys enjoy it!!
Wait what show is it
i love how the writters of the show didnt make jake extremely straight or bi or gay but just let it be u know? like jake wasn't gay but he was deffinetly not straight and the writters never made it seem like he had an specific sexuality. he kinda just thrived with whatever
here's the story line I want: Jake has an 'old buddy' that he was 'super close with' that calls him up out of the blue/that he runs into.
Yessss I need this to happen
That's so good honestly
Buddy: yeah so Jake and I dated a while back
Jake: yeah yea- wait, we did?
B: we dated for like two years. We got each other valentines day gifts
J: oh I thought that was platonic! I did have a crush on you but I didn't want to get my hopes up
I love this so much!!
The "buddy" should be played by John Mulaney
*Title sequence plays*
Me: BROOKLYN BI-BI
Most of the guys on the show are comfortable with their sexualities and show a healthy form of masculinity but there’s a reason that nobody considers Charles or Terry as bi. The reason people think Jake is bi is not because he randomly thinks a few guys are attractive, it’s because gay and bi people recognise certain behaviours or even a certain “bi energy” if you will, in him. So yeah, healthy straight masculinity is important, but in a show that has a lot of that ALREADY I think it’s more important to show Bi men which are practically nonexistent in TV

@@jjxnis you can be bi and in a heterosexual relationship
I love Jake being bi, but I think it sends an even bigger message a straight dude being respectful, showing that he is not insecure to compliment guys, and overall just having a positive masculinity! It shows straight men are capable of doing that without being shut off by society, I just think it's a marvellous example to follow.
I think that Jake is bisexual and Charles is that positive masculine guy
We have terry for that. I think the world needs more bi men in the media
@@Bentons-Crib... Dude is there really a HAS about it? :/ Like, it'd be really positive if he continued as is or if he came out as bi, acting like one is more vital than the other is a bit shitty towards the bi people who want representation too.
Pausing in his combat to say "omg you're even more stunning up close" was the highlight of this entire video!
Exactly. Also I think that making him bi should lessen the impact. We want every straight guy to be like Jake. Open to his emotions and secure enough.
The comment I was looking for.
This is me.
whats negative masculinity ? don't understand all the new phrases like woke and shit like that. t
jack cloud it’s when a dude acts stereotypically manly to an annoying and toxic degree. For example: shaming other men for doing things like crying, thinking that it’s “unmanly” to openly care about friends, etc. (Just google it, you’ll get it)
Nah. Real men don't be like that
I think it’s great that Jake maybe Bi. But him being straight and still being able to be say if a guy is not or not should be normalized too.
If more straight guys were like Jake , well, I’d date everyone then lmao.

PLEASE READ!!!!!!!! i’m getting a lot of comments talking about how him just appreciating men doesn’t mean he’s lgbt and that he’s just someone really comfortable in his sexuality. first of all, if this is the case which it most likely is, that’s GREAT because we need more characters on tv to fit that non-toxic masculinity archetype. however, what i think we need even more of is more lgbt rep, especially bi males who are almost unheard of in the media. i’m not FORCING jake to be anything he is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. and some of you are acting as if i’m trying to dictate the sexuality of a real person which is something i’d never do. you don’t have to agree with me or have the same opinion, but you should respect it because i’m not harming anyone and neither are the people that agree. watching this show as a bisexual person, i immediately felt a connection with him along with rosa and just wished they would be lgbt before we found out that rosa is canonically bi!!!! by wanting this, i’m not calling all effeminate guys gay in any way or saying a straight man can’t call out the beauty of a man, charles and terry are perfect examples of characters who do this and fit that non-toxic masculinity straight man archetype, but with jake i just feel like it’s more than that, especially since he literally asked out a man and confessed to having a crush on one but take it as you will. a lot of these clips are based on underlying subtext so i understand that not all or even none of these clips to you come across as him being lgbt, but they do to me so if you don’t agree just move on it’s NOT THAT DEEP LMAOOO
also this isn’t towards those who believe he’s straight and is just comfortable in his sexuality but is being kind in the comments. many people have been saying that but also saying that they respect those who do believe him to be lgbt and it’s just their opinion which is FINE!! i actually welcome discussing it in the comments. however, to those who are bashing and saying there’s no way and that i’m reaching and how i’m invalid for wanting more characters like me, you might as well just leave because i’m going to delete your comment. this is a safe lgbt space and i’m going to keep it as such
@@jesskspen man, people must have been giving you crap for this. I gotta say, personally I'm not sure if Jake is bi, but I hope he is! and like you said he's fictional and there are sorta-hints so we can make interpretations, I think!

You'd really have to be closed-minded to view some of these as anything _but_ bi panic. Just the way he plays it, it's clearly far more than being "comfortable in his sexuality".
I also feel like the fact that he helped Rosa come out as bi, could have been foreshadowing for him also being bi.
i heard him start the speech and went "shit no this is too real no straight person can say this with that much clarity i mean even rosa can see that look at her face"
Kinda was...🤔
I love the idea of Jake's Ex-Boyfriend comin to the precinct, but only Hitchcock and Scully are surprised that Jake is Bi.
Scully didn’t even know Holt was gay
when he helped rosa come out he got so into it like it’s something he’s been wanting to say for a while. no one just has that speech at the top of their head.
I feel like they should make him openly bi but like have the story set to that he's een open about being bi for such a long time that people just find it obvious except Hitchcock and scully and that's how they make it canon
Charles is a god of self confidence
