That line about being followed into the bathroom at 1:57 hits different after I just rewatched Top Gun (1986). The "seduction" scenes in that are TERRIFYING from the perspective of a lone female at a bar...being drunkenly "serenaded" by 50 testosterone-fueled dudes and then literally FOLLOWED INTO THE BATHROOM by the one who was most aggressive and got rejected. Different times, for sure. Let's keep normalizing feminism. More Jake Peraltas and fewer Mavericks, please!! Edit: spelling error
I love the fact that Brooklyn 99 has episodes focusing on heavier subjects. Like how Captain Holt was treated as a gay black police officer, how Terry experience racism, the pressure of coming out and the subtle and not-so subtle ways that gender inequality is still prevalent. Sadly a lot of people don’t see reality and think that just because there are successful people of minority groups it means that there’s equality which is far from the truth.
When he says these things so subtly... It just makes me feel so good. Gives me peace internally. I love b99. It takes up so many social issues and respects everyone's view.
I love when characters are written realistically. Like when a character says something, then another character tells them it's offensive. They still mess up and make mistakes and offend people. It shows that they're human. The way that we know they're not a bad person is how they react when they get called out on that. Using Jake as an example, if he were to say or do something unknowingly sexist, racist, homophobic, etc. he wouldn't get upset about it. He would immediately apologize and put in the effort to change that behavior or not say it ever again. This is the way that everyone should be. The more we see this in media, the more normalized it's going to be. Especially those in the majority. Because a lot of people don't mean to be offensive. They genuinely didn't know it was offensive. At least most of the people I know are more than happy to change some ways of thinking if they learn that they are being offensive. I think (or I hope) that most people are that way too. The problem is, is that when someone is correcting someone else, they see it as an attack on their character, so they get offended, and attack back. I think if we see more character like Jake in the media, it will be easier to make everyone else change. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk
He and Deadpool are the funniest feminists I’ve ever seen! “I feel like maybe I shouldn’t be here…Or should I be here because men should be part of the conversation” vs “Is it sexist to hit you, is it more sexist to not hit you”
Amy's "huh?" in the documentary scene is her turned on voice. It's the same tone she has whenever she says "oooh mama". Melissa is such a great actress, i love the little details in this show.
Something i love about this show is how they actually use the word feminist for boys. They don't shy away from it. In other shows sure they have guys that aren't assholes and support women and equality etc but they never mention the word feminist or call themselves one. While in b99 they aren't afraid of having a guy actually say that he is a feminist.
The opposite is ge case. You just assume that most man ate rapists and shit which is conpletely false. If 60% of men were like jake we would live in anarchy and i really love jake but he cant take responsebillity and probably wouldnt be able to Support his family as well defend women in the case of rape (im more talkinc about a normal dude beeing like jake because him beeing a cop kinda erases the last point about rape)
I don't know, it would be great if more men were more like him but sadly very few real and fictional dudes even come close to being half as lovely and supportive and selfless as him, despite often getting too much credit or praise. All men should take notes from Jake (and Andy S), as he's very underrated and underappreciated if anything.
Tbh a lot of these when he doesnt express the "I'm with her, I'm feminist" they go unnoticed because they normalize that he is a feminist. Like they show these actions and thoughts like "hey this is him, a guy that gets or tries to get it" and that's amazing
Thank you for this comp!! I've been pointing out all these same scenes and saying, "This is how it's done!" Now you've done me a favor by putting them in one place 🙏
Omg that last part is so fucking true! I'll be like "I think I got a decent grasp on the issues women are facing and while I'll never experience them myself I'll try my best to support them. I fully understand there's probably more to learn tho" then I'll learn there's another thing and even though I expect it I'm like "FUCKING GOD THERE'S MORE!? WHY IS THERE MORE!? HOW IS THERE MORE!? HOW DID WE COME UP WITH MORE!?" And then the cycle repeats with more and more info.
Yes, Jake's the best and probs the most feminist and supportive fictional guy on earth and the fact that he would give up so much and do anything for his family and work family without expecting a thank you or anything in return is super sweet and sets him apart. I know the bar is low for men but Jake puts practically all other white, straight real and fictitious dudes to shame and is about 1000 times better than most white male sitcom leads.
Sorry, think I just saw this, I don't know, I think a lot of the time it's pretty low for real and fictional men and they get away with more and don't get hate and scrutiny the way that women do which is why I get frustrated when Jake doesn't get the appreciation that he deserves as he's the best and a rare example of a sitcom man who deserves better and more kindness/appreciation/compassion.
"I am genuinely very sorry that this is something you have to go through all the time." "It's okay, I'm used to it." "That's even sadder." *HE GETS IT* ♡
There’s a guy at my work who wears a shirt saying “this is what a feminist looks like” maybe 3 days a week. He’s genuinely one of the most irritating, patronising and sexist people I’ve ever met. He constantly “boasts” about how he “knows women are smart and capable” and then makes gross and offensive jokes at their expense. He then says “it’s just a joke, I’m a feminist!!!” Like, if you really are a feminist, you don’t need to wear a fucking SHIRT saying that. Words are very supportive, but actions often do speak louder in this case. Brooklyn 99 is the perfect example of normalising men just being decent and supportive (and feminists) whilst also making it funny and highlighting it’s importance. Jake, I wish I could hang out with you ever day instead of that dickbag
Not surprising. It's like those 'nice guys,' who need to go out of their way tell you they're nice, and respect women. That's usually why no woman wants him, because women only date scum, or he's not attractive enough, or rich enough, and all women are superficial gold diggers. Because apparently that's how guys who respect women think about us. They never seem to realize the truth. They're alone because, while women do often have these flaws, many simply have too much self respect. We don't want a whiney, hypocritical, passive agressive, sexist.
He should’ve planned that call out. “Mr. Santiago I plan to ask your daughter to marry me. I would like, but do not require your blessing, as it is her decision. Also any suggestions on how to purpose based on childhood dreams would be much appreciated.”
My favorite thing is how all of his lines about feminism are delivered. They're delivered in a humerous but respectful way that shows that he's not gonna know everything and probably get a few things wrong but he's trying and learning nonetheless. Amazing acting and writing.
2:49 I'm a little conflicted about this episode obviously it's a great message, but also Gina spends the first few seasons Sexual Harrassing Terry and it's played for laughs
There are new shows that will come and go, but B99 will remain one of my favorite shows. I've seen over and over the show, and it was so amazing. When I feel blue, I just watch it. 🥰🥰❤❤ Thank you so much for the amazing video.
The thing I love about this, the thing the show really got right Is the way feminist characters don’t look at men as the enemy Feminism was never about making men and women enemies, it was about making them equals The writers understood this, and they did good at ensuring that the characters who fought for feminism didn’t demonize men
Mr. Santiago, I'm calling to inform you that I plan to ask your daughter to marry me. But since it's 2017 I am not asking for your permission as she is not your property, nor would she be mine if chooses to say yes. She's a strong independent woman and she don't need no man that being said I truly hope she say yes BUT IT'S HER DECISION SO JUST BACK OFF

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk
his character is so well developed and I love that he’s funny yet respectful and unproblematic.
0:37 thank you Jake
He and Deadpool are the funniest feminists I’ve ever seen!
“I feel like maybe I shouldn’t be here…Or should I be here because men should be part of the conversation” vs “Is it sexist to hit you, is it more sexist to not hit you”
I like how the show did this, it's a good example
Amy's "huh?" in the documentary scene is her turned on voice. It's the same tone she has whenever she says "oooh mama". Melissa is such a great actress, i love the little details in this show.
Something i love about this show is how they actually use the word feminist for boys. They don't shy away from it.
In other shows sure they have guys that aren't assholes and support women and equality etc but they never mention the word feminist or call themselves one.
While in b99 they aren't afraid of having a guy actually say that he is a feminist.
"loosening up my flowerbind fingers, imma go nuts on the daisies" is just the best line
A world would be a lot safer place if even 60% of men would start being like Jake Peralta 👑❤️
Maybe women need to grow up and improve themselves instead of blaming men for their own life failures.
@@BishopWalters12Explain to me how patriarchy is the fault of women? You’re the one perpetuating it right now, dude.
@@walrus2515 LOL, good one.
One of the best things about Jake is that he never felt threatened by Amy’s drive and success he celebrated and admired her for it
“I’ve always known you were going to be my boss”❤️
We love a respectful king
he rose standers for men
feminist, good dad, potter and swiftie..... what else can i ask for💕
All except good dad and potter r cringe and too feminine for a man especially swiftie
1:28 ICONIC 💀
1:48 Mr. Santiago's face 😂😂
Tbh a lot of these when he doesnt express the "I'm with her, I'm feminist" they go unnoticed because they normalize that he is a feminist. Like they show these actions and thoughts like "hey this is him, a guy that gets or tries to get it" and that's amazing
This is going straight to the Happy Place playlist. Jake Peralta is human being goals, and I feel seen. 💖
Every day I get sad about the fact that I'll never watch this show for the first time again
fr
I love how he defends amy from her mother
that was her mother
Thank you for this comp!! I've been pointing out all these same scenes and saying, "This is how it's done!" Now you've done me a favor by putting them in one place 🙏
Just one of the several reasons we love Jake, best man in tv
@travooozle why are you hating on Jake? Name an actual better TV Male person
Jake peralta is gem💎
We need more men like him pls he is just so amazing!!!
He is a fictional charackter and we dont need more men like him and people who believe that didnt think it through.
@@heatherstephenson3559 the Bar isnt Set low for men.
@@heatherstephenson3559 why do you bring race into this?
Sorry, think I just saw this, I don't know, I think a lot of the time it's pretty low for real and fictional men and they get away with more and don't get hate and scrutiny the way that women do which is why I get frustrated when Jake doesn't get the appreciation that he deserves as he's the best and a rare example of a sitcom man who deserves better and more kindness/appreciation/compassion.
i'm so dead at lin manuel miranda being in the first clip
"I am genuinely very sorry that this is something you have to go through all the time."
"It's okay, I'm used to it."
"That's even sadder."
*HE GETS IT* ♡
There’s a guy at my work who wears a shirt saying “this is what a feminist looks like” maybe 3 days a week.
Honestly "He should've planned that out" describes a lot of Jake's life lol.
every time I watch your videos, I want to rewatch this series again the firsts seasons are so gold
My favorite thing is how all of his lines about feminism are delivered. They're delivered in a humerous but respectful way that shows that he's not gonna know everything and probably get a few things wrong but he's trying and learning nonetheless. Amazing acting and writing.
2:23 Jake's arm might hurt a little but his excitement is top notch 🥹💖
He is so damn attractive for this as if he wasn't attractive enough already
Every second of this video makes me love him more
I love how they’re not forcing it and it’s just kind of lowkey
I gotta say I loved when Jake called Amy out on her own sexism. Tell a male to "be a man" or man up is no better than telling a woman to be a lady.
It's almost like men and women are different and not every single thing is sexist.
@@Squatch24there are way less differences than ya think.
there's nuance in the world, and all genders and sexes should be equal, we're all humans
I love Jake Peralta ( Andy ) so much, he’s so respectful, bubbly and perfect ❤
When we say we hate men we, of course, are not talking about this lovely gentleman right here😌
“I’m about to go nuts on the daisies”, oh my god I love him
2:49 I'm a little conflicted about this episode obviously it's a great message, but also Gina spends the first few seasons Sexual Harrassing Terry and it's played for laughs
the show has its flaws yea
I can imagine Jake with bloodshot eyes watching that documentary in the middle of the night and going: "Wow..."
1:38
Why does this interaction remind me of Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase?
Jake and Amy are so much like Percy and Annabeth it’s great
@@wallacealex4638 To quote from Disney's version of Hades: "You are correct, sir!!"
Jake reminds me of Percy in 80% of his scenes. I think it's the combination of ADHD, humor, and genuine respect for other people
I love this show, I’ve watched it over 7 times and have never got bored of it.
There are new shows that will come and go, but B99 will remain one of my favorite shows. I've seen over and over the show, and it was so amazing. When I feel blue, I just watch it. 🥰🥰❤❤
Thank you so much for the amazing video.
Him standing up for Amy's really sweet-
The thing I love about this, the thing the show really got right
Is the way feminist characters don’t look at men as the enemy
Feminism was never about making men and women enemies, it was about making them equals
The writers understood this, and they did good at ensuring that the characters who fought for feminism didn’t demonize men
@@speedswiper1866women and men are equals
Dude that makes him so much more attractive as a character too 🤩
Lo amo con todo mi corazón.
Honey, we all do
so excited to watchhhhh
Love how amy and rosa make faces when he's trying, like "he's a lil' confused, but he's trying" 😂
I’m a feminist so no wonder I love Jake 🕺
His character is so sweet and he’s rly funny too!
I love how he understands that there will always be more to learn about feminism
“Man up? SEXIST. I’m sorry but I don’t see gender SIR” always cracks me up 😂
why did this make me tear up😢 I'm so tired man
Mr. Santiago, I'm calling to inform you that I plan to ask your daughter to marry me. But since it's 2017 I am not asking for your permission as she is not your property, nor would she be mine if chooses to say yes.
She's a strong independent woman and she don't need no man that being said I truly hope she say yes BUT IT'S HER DECISION SO JUST BACK OFF
That’s why I love b99 cause sitcoms can be funny considerable and comfortable at the same time
Oof, that delivery of the last line just hits the feels hard
i swear jake's the most amazing human being.
2:00 and 2:04 get me every time
also the last one was SO SAD OMG
