10 NATIONS That WILL NOT EXIST in 2115 - TopTenzNet

  • It can often seem as though nations are permanent fixtures on the landscape, immovable, unchangeable, and enduring. If history has taught us one thing, it’s that nations are perfectly capable of disappearing. A number of top countries disappeared in the 20th century alone, including nations such as Astro-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and superpower U.S.S.R. Anyone expecting the 21st century to be any kinder is liable to be surprised. Here are some well known nations that (probably) won’t exist in 2115.
    9. The Netherlands
It’s easy to imagine tropical nations disappearing into the Pacific. What is less easily imagined is the loss of a European Nation to climate change. Never-the-less, this is not only realistic, but in fact quite probable. Known as much for its dikes as for being the place to go for legal drugs and prostitutes, much of the Netherlands is below sea level.
Unlike Kiribati, it is not simply rising sea levels that threatens the Netherlands. An extremely modern nation with a powerful economy, the Netherlands can well afford to continue expanding its dikes upwards to keep rising seas out. The real problem is that the same dikes that can keep the sea out can keep flooding in. With half the nation at or below one meter above sea level, the Netherlands has been constantly fighting to keep its head above water.
In 1953, A massive storm slammed into the Netherlands and neighboring Belgium. Floods as deep as five-and-a-half meters deep swept the southern parts of the country. Only the careful use of a ship to plug a dike prevented the flooding of North Holland, the second most heavily populated province. With many scientists predicting that previously “safe” Europe could soon be struck with frequent “Hurricane Katrina” level storms, we’d book our Amsterdam holiday today if we were you.
    6. Taiwan
Taiwan is in an interesting position. While many people are aware of the fact that China insists Taiwan is still a part of China, what they don’t tend to recall is that Taiwan says the exact same thing. The only real debate between the two is which government is the legitimate one, the pre-WWII Republic of China government seated in Taiwan or the post war People’s Republic of China in Beijing.
Regardless of the politics, the fact is that, in terms of actual operation, Taiwan is a wholly independent nation, and has acted as such ever since Chang Kai-shek led his Kuomintang government to Taiwan in 1949. Despite its own insistence it is not, it maintains diplomatic nations with many of the world’s nations, it maintains its own military (purchasing heavily from trade partner America), it has a democratically elected government that has unchallenged rule over the island. It walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck…
Still, the fact that both Taiwan and China insist that Taiwan is just part of China goes a long way to removing the island’s nationhood. Events over time have further eroded this position, such as the UN’s kicking Taiwan out and giving China the empty seat in 1971. While there are some within Taiwan calling for an official declaration of independence, the official government stance still calls for eventual reunion with mainland China, and only 24% of the population responded favorably to independence during a January poll. As such it is only a matter of time before Taiwan returns to the fold.

    • @Grabbagar670

Its not that "climate change" doesnt exist. Its that the government is trying to exploit climate change using taxes and government agencies and pass it off as something that is caused by humans.
The earth routinely undergoes climate change where it cools and warms up (ice ages). There have been at least 6 ice ages (all of which were warmed up without the help of humans), and we are at the very end of the last one.

The point is not that the earth has done it by itself, the point is that we are causing that process to speed up with our constant pollution.

As a Canadian I find your reasoning for Canada not being around to be based around a grossly outdated movement. The referendum to leave Canada was back in 1995, well over 20 years ago. Since then the Bloc party has been on a steady decline, seeing both the population of Quebec losing interest and the party losing ground within the government. The 2011 elections saw the Bloc party lose its official party status as they only managed to pick up 4 seats out of 308, well shy of the minimum number of 12. Even the party leader, Gilles Duceppe, failed to keep his seat. The 2015 elections saw the Bloc get only 19.3% of the public vote in Quebec, the lowest in the party's history, and Gilles Duceppe failing to win the riding he ran in.

I just commented something similar I hadn't read yours and you are 100% correct. It's an outdated movement and I doubt that there will ever be a movement as powerful as the one in 1995 and we still lost. People just don't care anymore.

      @samd5216 7 років тому +3

I'm not aware of a western sovereignty movement ... Just so you know, Québec was seriously shafted historically and the sentiment in Québec is still strong, to me there seems to be an actual cause for the sentiment in Québec. I doubt there is as strong a sentiment in the west as there is no actual injustice that was commited against the western provinces.

There are suggestions from Dutch and German scientists to build two massive dams between the UK and France and between UK and Norway, effectively stopping Northern Europe being flooded.
It may sound expensive (and it is) but the cost of not doing anything and then having to relocate tens of millions of people is 10 times more expensive.
London will be underwater by 2100 too.

@@jamesmatthew7368 It was formally know as the Gilbert Islands and consists of the Pheonix Islands and the Line Islands spread out across the central Pacific above and below the Equator. When they got thir independence from the British in 1979 they named the whole country Kiribati ( pron: Kiri-bus or Kiri-bas) which is their native pronounciation for Gilbert. It is also the largest country in the world when you take into consideration their sea boundary which covers 811 sq km consisting of 32 coral atoll and one island with a mountain Ocean Island (locally called Banaba) which was a rich source of phosphate until the British got hold of it. When that ran out thats when the Brits gave them thir country back (thats my opinion anyway).

Yeah...Canada not being a country doesn't make sense. Quebec is not set up at all to be a sovereign nation. In the last election, the separatist party said they'd leave and continue to use the Canadian dollar...which Canada promptly said...no. While Quebec does have SOME resources to become a separate nation, the rely heavily on Alberta, BC and Ontario to remain afloat. Let me make this perfectly clear...I am not against people wanting to separate and have their own identity. There are countries that should split apart because of rival nationalism. Yugoslavia's dissolution is a perfect example of this. Keeping countries together with tape over time results in violence.

People were always voting for the liberals by default because they didn't want to leave Canada, it was always federalists vs independentists but it changed with the CAQ which is similar to the Parti Quebecois but they don't want to leave. However, with the federal elections coming in a few months it could change because the conservatives want to build their pipeline in Quebec and Quebecers don't want it. There's also a rumor that the actual prime of Quebec is actually a separatist and he's waiting for the right time to make a new referendum.

Kiribati is pronounced "kiri-bass". "ti" in the orthography of Gilbertese is always pronounced as "s". One of the islands in the country is called "Kiritimati" substitute "s" for "ti" and you get "Kirismas" which is the Gilbertese way of saying "Christmas".

Other then that Canada is far from divided or on the verge of breaking up, the USA would sooner fall apart then Canada. Quebec separatism is getting less likely to happen as the years go on by. The only reason why it seems like it will separate is because of separatist party which HAS the second LOWEST amount of seats in parliament (after the Greens with only one). Besides, as Chris Donathen said, Canada will be stronger and more united as the years go on.

While Quebec is 77% French, Ontario & Manitoba have large French populations, and French is an official language in New Brunswick with 1/3rd French.
French is mandatory for school children nationwide.
There is more holding Canada together than it would seem. Particularly winter haha

+HenryTheGardener For Canada it really depends. the sovereignty movement is something that could be made stronger or weaker by many events. I agree that under Trudeau it is likely much less of an issue. and even before then the support for independence had declined drastically from the late 90s. But a century is a long time. Wouldn't surprise me if there were some more surprising dissolutions in the coming years.

In my experience, most French Canadians I've known actually want to remain French Canadians, and want Quebec to stay a State of Canada. What I have quite often heard from them, is that they just want to keep more of their Quebecker made money from the Federal Government, and cases like that I've known from many states of most countries with federal systems.
I wrote "Quebecker" because I've written in English. Had I written in French, then I would've written "Quebecois", but unfortunately I don't speak French.

Empires come and go, we had our time. But NO other nation will ever have as big a global impact as we did. Our tiny little island changed the world. We ended slavery, brought the rule of law, parliamentary democracy, the English language, roundabouts, the industrial revolution, the human genome, Darwin, Faraday, Shakespeare, Newton, Dickens, Hardy, cricket, football, fair play, and so much more. Britain ROCKS now and forever no matter what happens 🇬🇧

I find it passing strange that a video marked as "published" in November of 2015 made prognostications about which countries would not exist by 2015! And even at that, you got most of it wrong. The most glaring example is the Netherlands, which has successfully dealt with the sea for centuries. Sorry Nostradamus, but the Netherlands is still around--and will, in all likelihood, be around long after all of us have shuffled off this mortal coil!

Every single country you see today, all of them, will not exist in 2115. There are 3 options: 1. War kills all humans, 2. There is a global government that probably spans multiple planets, or 3. There are few regional/ continental governments that are large in size. Option 2 is the likliest. Option 3 would happrn before option 2. I think in the 2060s or 2070s option 2 will start. In the 2090s or 2100s option 3 will take effect.

There is a fundamental error in your commentary. The Country and the Nation are not the same thing, so what you are talking about involves countries not nations. A country is defined by it's geographical location and borders. on the other hand a nation is defined by a specific people with common ancestry, culture etc. that may live in different countries. For example if the Netherlands flood as you predict, this does not mean that the Dutch people will become extinct as a result.
