  • Travel is a wonderful thing. It broadens your mind, it allows you to explore new horizons, and it can totally end up with you getting super-killed in the nastiest way possible. Yep, despite all you might hear about the awesome benefits you’ll get from going off the tourist track, the truth is that the tourist track is there for a reason: to stop starry-eyed dopes from getting killed. While it’s definitely possible for a seasoned traveler, war correspondent, or international super spy to visit all the following, we strongly suggest that you stay away.

    • @scheisstag
      @scheisstag 3 роки тому +1

      @@Busha69 You are right, this is not a competition. But comparing, thats actually what we started to do in this post. By saying "suffered the most" YT Gamer actually compared Bosnia to the rest of the world, specially to Afghanistan, since this is the country the thread starter mentioned. And for sure, this does not help the people in the region, but still its an interesting thing to do, that harms no one. And comparing means basically putting something into perspective. And thats what you do in the science of history.
      I have been recently to both countries. And just judged by the living standards BH is on another level/planet. In Afghanistan people are still dying of malnutrition and hunger. BH is on a low european level and by far not even the poorest country in europe. If I am not mistaken, than BH had only three years of war in the whole century, apart of the two world wars, which affected nearly all the countries in Europe.
      This was the war from 1992 to 1995. So three years, already 25 years, nearly one generation, ago...
      With around 100 000 casualties.
      And fought against the Serbs, a comparable small military power.
      In Afghanistan you have an ongoing hot war for 42 years. And they fought the world leading military superpowers Nr. two (russia) and Nr. one (US), in this order. And lost over a Million citizen only during the russian occupation.
      So I wouldnt say what BH experienced was a piece of cake. But saying they suffered even more than the Afghans, might be a little far fetched.

      Venezuela is actually getting slightly better as they are becoming slightly less socialist and allowing private enterprise. Don't let the above post about U.S. economic war fool you- he's just a commie. The reason Venezuela is getting better is because they are allowing some capitalist enterprise. Face it commies, your economic system sucks. Stop blaming the U.S. for your failures. Now Venezuela still has a long way to go, so far only the upper classes are benefiting from private business, so far the money isn't trickling down to the poor. But that's just because the poor are still dependent on the socialist programs the country is still running (even despite some loosening of restrictions towards private business recently).

    137,000 homicides per 100,000 people must make San Salvador a truly dangerous place (so dangerous that 37% of people were killed twice?). Perhaps they are counting zombies and vampires every time they are re-killed? Is it still counted as a homicide if they come back to life, or is it deducted from the statistics? :)

We fled to the arab-Christian dominated part of Lebanon called Faraya (the only place that wasn't getting bombed). So we went back to Beirut to the American embassy where the American navy/Marines took us on bus to a boat to travel to Cyprus. From there we boarded a plane from Cyprus to Germany to Philadelphia to Ohio then to Michigan. I will forever be grateful to those who rescued my mom, sister and I. But sadly I didn't get their names or a picture of them. 😢 I did however get temporary PTSD for a few months. 🤕

    My grandma would talk about how they spent time living in Aiden in the Yemen back in the 50s/60s when my grandad was working out there for BP. Mentioned that certain turmoil was only just over the horizon while they were living there. Makes me shiver thinking about it.

    If a time traveller ever asks you “so, what are the late 2010s like?”, just show them this video and tell them to go to another time.
