Dad Insists 16-Year-Old Son’s Death Was an Accident

- Sam Koets, 16, was diagnosed with severe autism and couldn’t talk or take care of himself. Last year, investigators say his dad, professor Timothy Koets, left his Grand Rapids, Michigan, home to teach a class while Sam was outside playing. His wife and 18-year-old sister were home at the time, but their day later turned horrific. “My daughter woke me up and said, ‘Sam’s in the pool!’ They insist his death was an accident. Timothy Koets was charged with involuntary manslaughter and pleaded not guilty. #InsideEdition

Emon3y23 ong
I don't think they killed their son- but they definitely DON'T seem to care that he's gone now either. They seem very at peace and happy with it. They're practically relieved. It's obvious they didn't love him genuinely and probably saw him more as a burden considering they called him "freak." Calling your child "freak" as a family nickname, ESPECIALLY when they have a disability is extremely sick, dysfunctional, and abnormal family behavior. If you're healthy minded or have love in your heart for someone, you just don't do that. It's that simple. You would think the father would have been alarmed and responded more like 'Get him out of there now! It's freezing cold!' but instead he barely makes an effort to put the responsibility of his son on his other child who also seems not to care by mimicking her father's disconcern by texting a picture instead of acting with urgency to help get him out quickly. I think it's pretty clear they feel like they dodged a bullet.

@@brittanyanne936 yes but it's completely 110 percent diffrent if both parties understand the name calling. It's completely different to msg your parent and use the same name especially when the other person doesn't know. She was also texting to have them check on him, I'd your worried that's also not an appropriate time to use a funny "nickname". Along with being autstic (yes, I am btw) we get called names Alot. Such as "Freak". Which also makes it way less funny and just siblings playing around, when the whole world already calls u that & makes fun of you. So that doesn't seem like a nickname or siblings playing around. It's completely different circumstances then 2 siblings calling eachother names to there face where they understand it, and when they aren't already called those names so often.
Poor kid deserved so much better. Rip Sam.
They talk about him like he was a disabled family pet. Disgusting. May he rest in paradise.
I think people have more compassion for their family pets than this family ever did for Sam.
Why was he in the frigid pool?
And text is mom still asleep?
“Yet wife says husband though I was up”
Exactly!!!
Jay L how long was he in the pool ?? Like
I think he maybe asked that question bc he knew she wouldnt have let him stay in the pool for that long if she was up like he thought she was but u do have a point 🤔
You said though, not thought.
Jay L 😲😲😲your right
They lack emotion and the moms cry sounds so fake
They want views
The mother cries without tears... Can it get more kake than that? 🤦♂️
Arthur and junk fake
Ikr
My dog can show more emotion than that lady
Wtf this whole story is eerie. You actually see and hear the mum break character when she says "um" when describing his yellow hands. That voice change isn't natural at all! RIP Sam 💖
The way their story sounds so rehearsed as if they've practised it so many time
Freak? A term of endearment?
There’s something off with their affect.
You don't understand how trying autism is. I'm a sperg, and my parents threw me out into the street when I was 17 because they told me they couldn't stand me as a person. They said they'd say "good morning" and I'd scowl and say "I don't do small talk," and that it was charming when I was six, but not when I was 16. At a family gathering they once horrified everyone else by referring to me by their "pet name" for me, The Human Garbage Can, because of my willingness to eat scraps, leftovers, and uncooked food.
I'm now 51 years old and have spent most of that time isolated because I've learned that normal human beings just can't stand my presence. I don't think, act, talk, or dress like other people. I don't "fit in." No one can stand to spend time with me. And consider that I'm considered extremely high-functioning for an autist, so I can understand why a family like this would feel dislike and even hostility for their son, and wouldn't be sorry that he's gone.
@@NoJusticeNoPeace that doesn't make it any better. In fact it makes it worse
They seem relieved that he's gone.
They do! It's so sad!
Simply Myla K. Exactly my thoughts
She’s cutting the damn apples like she doesn’t have a care in the world TF
Sure do
I was thinking the same thing..
Honestly, I’d never leave my child outside to play by themselves next to a pool.
Neglect , so much neglect these kids who have special needs need special care and love. As a father of a daughter who will forever been in need of my care and will probably pass before me this frustrates me to no end. I don’t want to discredit this mother but there is way too much of a sense of relief from these parents after this horrible loss of life
Fr! And the court found the same. Yep... he was sentenced to between 2 and 15 years in prison in 2021... meanwhile, the mom was sentenced to 21 days in jail in June 2019 for continuing to refill her son’s Ritalin prescription some eight months after he died
That last “I miss sam” was completely empty of real emotion.
Regardless of this situation, people who mourn can seem emotionless because they don't want to show their deep feelings of grief.
@@dominator8245 Never seen that happen in my life with an entire family
Im going to guess the person directing the segment told them to say that, which is why it sounded so off.
Y E P
That "I miss Sam" sounded exactly as "I'm happy this happened and would do it all over again"
The entire interaction seemed frigid, emotionless and unsettling...
Nothing about this whole story and situation seems right.
