Hi Tesia - I'm curious why you add any slack to the wire at all? I worked in a custom framing shop in my youth and we always strung the wire as tight and straight across as possible. This ensures the piece lies flat against the wall and doesn't tilt away from the wall at all. Thoughts?

Hey Lisa. If you've ever tried to hang a huge painting with the wire completely tight you'll know why I leave slack in the wire. It's almost impossible to get the canvas or framed piece on the hanger if the wire is too tight. You want to have a little slack so you can "catch" the wire on the hanger, but not too much or the painting with fall forward from the wall. It's a delicate balance!! Thanks for your question!! 🤠

Hey Acrylic Diva - Tesia Blackburn Fine Art,
good demo. Do you always adjust the wire so the canvas hangs at 2
inches below the top edge regardless of the size of canvas? Or is it
proportional? I'd expect you hang a larger canvas at a lower point below
the top edge. How do you calculate that? Thanks.

Hey Joanne, thanks for your question. You're absolutely right. On the larger canvases I adjust the hanging height accordingly. So I still put the hangers at about 1/3 of the way down, but I usually have the wire hang about 4" instead of 2". And no matter what the measurement is, I make it same on all of my paintings. So all 36" canvases have X amount of slack in the wire, all the same. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Tesia. I usually have my wires more taut than that and sometimes the paintings don't hang nicely against the wall. They are at an awkward angle. I'll try this formula and see if it helps.
