This is an attempt to exhaust all possible ways to lose in King's Quest V. Part 3 is all the clips on Mordack's Island.
I have opted to show only the results that specifically result in a Restore/Restart/Quit screen, although there are many other ways to make the game unbeatable (e.g. not having the fishhook or the locket).
There are some gray areas when multiple actions achieve virtually the same result. For example, Mordack can kill Graham anywhere in the castle if Graham wastes too much time, but I show the sequence only when Graham alerts Mordack by deliberately doing something stupid. (Sorry about waiting for a long time after talking to the cat. The cat is the reason Graham dies, I swear.)

True, the falls aren't the best deaths in the game. The puns in these games never cease to amaze / amuse me, though.
@KendallHartz Maybe he was going to say "I have journeyed far, over land and sea, to roast you over your own hearth and serve you as a meal in your own dining hall" but Mannanan cut him off. It's what I'd do to him if I caught him.

The Dink is a creature of my nightmares - has been for decades because of this game. Imagine getting killed while 5 years old and walking into what you see at 1:40
Falling the wrong way can result in pain or death. We can only assume either he fell on sharp rocks or he fell in such a way that it caused his death upon landing.
Before this, I didn't know some of these deaths existed; one of the most surprising was that Dink could kill you. I just thought he would just stand there until you used the tambourine.
Another death is is Graham goes into Mordack's laboratory before Mordack goes to bed. Just go upstairs and into Mordack's lab after sacking Manannan, and you'll meet Mordack there, and he kills you.
I loved Mordack's castle with its hideous pipe organ and weird alien servents. Genuinely chilling.
@shadyparadox Makes sense, given that disk space was really at a premium back then.
I agree. The only thing he helped Graham was to shield him from Mordack's wand

When I played this it had text captions instead of this rubbish voice acting. It was much better that way. Of course, I had to listen to the PC Speaker, but I think it might have been a fair tradeoff.
That blue alien always scared the shit out of me! The castle was creepy enough...and it would be really quiet...and if you stood in one spot too long, he would scurry in the door and grab you!
The blue creature only appears inside Mordack's castle, and he can't kill you directly. He'll take you to the dungeon, and you'll "die" if you go there twice.
@UltimateSonic899 How else? Poison. Besides, isn't the venom of a Cobra (which Mordack turns into) suppossed to be especially lethal?
Ouch! Poor guy already had to go through that once already in the last game!
That first death with the squid had me like "16 years of foresight for the plot of Pirates of the Carribean 2. Damn! "

I believe that if you don't save Cedric after the harpies' attack, he doesn't save you at the end of the game and you die.
@daT00Nguy Such a short fall seems unlikely to kill somebody, maybe he struck his head against a rock on impact. THAT is very likely to kill somebody.
Right. She doesn't show up and basically the same thing happens. The only difference is the game doesn't recognize the secret stone if you click on it (since you're technically not supposed to be aware of it yet).
Graham looks like the Tin Man when he gets killed by the statues.
Or, my most hated way to lose- "Out of Heap space".
That last step must have really been a... doozie.
FYI: From what I understand, Graham is made out of glass.
LOL! I only did recently when I was playing the game, I was like "I wonder if you can talk to the cat" and sure enough you can. I expected Graham to be much more pissed at Manannan however.
You can talk to the cat, yes... just be sure you save first, because talking to him guarantees Mordak will teleport in and force choke you (usually by the time you're on the next screen). This can also happen anytime the cat so much as sees you walk past him.
That makes two King's Quest games (to my knowledge) that cause you to die after being "hugged". ^^
If you go to Mordack's castle without the crowbar, the blue monster will show up on the screen with the grate and capture you. It's probably not worth making a video for, just something interesting I found out.
So why doesn't the rain cloud work on the dragon? A bucket of water beat a dragon in the first, and rain beat a much larger dragon in the third, but not here?
About my other comment. I just realized that probably was the second time. I was wondering what would happen if didn't give Cassima her locket? Would she still rescue you or is it the same scene?
If only he said "you're as clumsy as you are stupid" before choking him.
Yeah, at full speed Graham is charred and on the ground in about half a second. Seemed worth it to slow it down so we can see Graham's demise in full detail.
Maybe Dink's too shy to hug her.
The daventry family are all klutzes.
The puns are funnier in Space Quest and quest for glory, but yeah, the ones for King's Quest can be amusing, especially 5.
Why'd you slow it down with the gargoyle statues? Do they kill you too fast or something?
No, but a fast speed makes the animation play too fast.

How come there's a tombstone in the cell gameover... Graham doens't really die in there... He just is doomed to imprisonment...
You know... Manann the wizard DOES get off the second easiest out of all the King's Quest villains doesn't he? I mean, Graham basically blames Alexander for turning Manann into a cat... as if Alexander had any other choice at the time! Besides, if I were Graham I would've kept said cat in a bag and tossed said bag into fireplace... or how about that weird thing you toss the moldy cheese in?
Sorry... normally I frown on cat violence but that time is needed.

One thing you missed: if you forgot to bring the prybar from the beach, then the blue beast will come and capture you on the screen with the grate.

Yes. That is what I show in the video.
Getting caught before befriending Cassima and getting caught twice after befriending Cassima seal essentially the same fate. The only difference is that when Graham gets caught twice, he is aware of the loose stone exit that Cassima uses to free him. That's why I click the eye and hand on that stone, which has now been permanently sealed.

Graham has the most ungraceful fall in history, tumbling head first and all.

Yeah, you can also wait in Mordack's bedroom for him to wake up. It all looks a little different, but the dialog is the same. Keep in mind I was also trying to stay under 10 minutes when making this video (although now I know it really allows 11), so I reduced Mordack's clips to two.
These videos are OLD. There's no way I'm going back to change them at this point anyway.

You're right. He was a knight who was crowned king after recovering the three treasures of Daventry in KQ1.

I'll probably start tackling KQ6 this weekend. That one will likely be much harder though since the game doesn't have a linear format like this one.
I've played through SQ4 and SQ5, but I'm not as familiar with those as KQ5-7. We'll see how it goes.
I've never understood why Dink inadvertently kills you.
He plays with Cassima, and she's a LOT more delicate than Graham I'd imagine.

Perhaps Graham didn't realise who the cat was. I know there's a cutscene where Mordack blames Alexander for turning his brother into a cat but I don't think it's until the ending where you meet the wizard that Graham finds out who the cat is.

I've done about half the videos for KQ6. When I finish that, we'll see.
It seems the game creator's were having a fun time thinking of all these deaths. Grahm's VA has a good scream. Anyways, how did you put all these clips together? Thanks for putting all three parts up, it was strangely enjoyable.
The King's Quest 7 deaths aren't very funny, though. The KQ6 and KQ2VGA ones, however, are some of the greatest.
I agree, though, I love the deaths in Space Quest, especially SQ4. ^_^

Watching these videos leads me to believe that a big reason people ended up hating Cedric was his ill-conceived Mr. Bill voice.
It's also fun to place the eye icon over Graham's face while he's facing forward.
Putting the crown over people's heads is so overrated. :)

@Falchion1984 It's the same sequence, except the game doesn't acknowledge anything special about the stone. It just gives the red X when you click on it.

Most of these are easily avoidable if you're careful and paying attention. If you're used to these kind of games you shouldn't die too often.
