  • Two parts to this tutorial video! First we take an ordinary pair of thrifted elastic waist pants and embellish them with lace to create a pair of loungewear bloomers. Then we dye them aqua with a coordinating top. The items have some synthetic materials, so we will be using RIT Dyemore. I will walk you step by step on how to dye these items on the stove top. Lots of fun sewing tips and tricks that can be implemented in your other projects. Enjoy!

Thanku for yet another doily repurpose video. I wore a jean jacket to church with doilies on it and was asked by a lady to make her one. It made her so happy! Thanks for all you do to encourage us to sew using vintage lacey things. Greetings from Robin in NC.

Amazing that you do your dyeing in regular clothing! I have an old t-shirt and shorts that I use for my "projects" I was going to dye something that exact same color. It was an old white shirt that was probably 20 years old. I thought it was beyond hopeless that I would ever get the grey out and make it white again. I used the rit color remover and it worked so well I decided I didn't need to dye it!

Hi, if you think the dye is too dark, take some out, and just add water to the volume. That will dilute the colour, store the dark you took out into another bottle for another day. U could also add green to it for a green/blue aqua, or yellow for lime green. ::)). You are awesome, let your light shine bright. Don’t be upset about negative people. You an also overdye pattern fabric. You could also try mixing dye for nylon with natural fibre, see if that dyes both combinations eg, cotton and nylon on the same garment. I do a lot of wool dying. Mix my own colours, I love dyeing my wool, it’s awesome. Good luck. Kia Ora, we love youre projects, you are very inspiring ,more than you know.xx

Maybe just use one of the tops for “patches” or appliqués on a pair of jeans, a skirt, denim jacket, etc? You could add some faux pearls that are flat on the back with fabric glue and a few shabby chic lace/fabric flowers ??? Velvet is one of MY FAVORITE materials, I absolutely LOVE how adding just a little velvet piece to an outfit really elevates the entire look, you could also maybe make a scarf with one of the tops? I know Tracy is going to come up with something fantastic for you! I just seriously LOVE velvet so thought I’d just say hi and HAVE FUN!

This made a cute pair of lounge pajamas. They look beautiful on you. We used to paint our shoes (with shoe paint that was sold at shoe stores) to match a new dress. That looks like a big bruise on your right wrist. I'm not on any medication; but, I still bruise easily. I find bruises on myself (when I get in the shower) that I have no idea how I got. Mowing grass puts a lot of bruises on my legs and arms.

Our Dear Ms. Myers: further thoughts:
    1. When you pulled those slippers out to dye them I just started laughing my guts out!😂🤣😅
    2. When you are pinning something to a pant leg, put a small cutting board up the leg first. It keeps your fabrics flat for more accuracy while pinning, and you do not have to worry about your pins catching the back layer.
    3. Being creative IS its own form of work. When you create something, you are pulling something into existence that is new. Not only is there effort in figuring it out in the first place, but (gettin' deep here!) you are straining against the natural entropy of existence to birth something new. Birthing anything always involves labor.
    4. Do you have a PO box?
    5. How are the paper decoupage shoes from an earlier video holding up? I am interested to see if the decoupage lasts at all.

Sorry didn’t mean to do that , but I try to do what I can that is positive . And I love to create . I am so blessed to find and watch you and what you do , I’m really enjoying it . God richly bless you! Also I just want to ask you what you made your beautiful curtains out of in the room where you film ? An finally one more thing you could maybe find interesting , I looked a long time for an old quilt to buy without any success . So I bought a new one , it was a beautiful big floral number . So I over dyed it again on top of its original colors in a combination of red dye and coffee and tea . It turned out just beautiful and looks very much like an antique . It was great fun to do .

I have a question if you please. If you are going to dye something that is cotton AND polyester would you use both natural and synthetic dye at the same time, in the same dye bath? Or only synthetic? or two separate applications?
I have an overalls project and they are a cotton poly blend and some of my embellishments are poly. I'm scared that only a portion will dye and the whole thing will be ruined. And I love them. And its been a lot of work. And, and.... 😮
