Hasbro revealed a three-pack based on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and the Spidey from that set, in my opinion, is the perfect Ditko Spider-Man figure. The blue is nice and bright, the web pattern is sharp, and the head sculpt screams perfection to me.
One of the few people to call out the sculpt and proportion issues this figure has, as well as actually understanding basic action figure engineering when it comes to the neck joint. It’s rare and refreshing to see my qualms echoed by a reviewer/UA-camr.
Glad I heard about this before they stopped production or was too late. I loved Renew Your Vows and needed these two in my collection. Been years since I last purchased Marvel Legends.
The reason why they probably didn’t add the toe articulation for the Spider-Man No Way Home 3 pack, it’s because they are still 3d digitally rendered, so that doesn’t mean it’s the final product, maybe when that 3 pack finally gets released later in 2023, they might have some toe articulation.
Really like they tweaked the proportions mainly on the shoulders which are bulkier and the hips are now closer together but that double ball peg is still crap, hope they improve the double ball pegs on future ML figures.
I have the same problem with the “gummy shoulders” My Iron Man from the Controller wave has the “gummy shoulders”, every time I pose it, it feels like I’m about to break the joint
That really sucks. Not sure why Hasbro is using the softer plastic for the shoulders, it seems counter intuitive. The biceps down make sense to be on the softer side but you’d want the shoulder and peg joint of the swivel to be stiffer
Very nice review and comparison. You were very thorough and it's appreciated. Just on a side note, I have multiples of the RYV Spider-Man figure, and not even one of them has a gummy bicep on either arm. They are actually all very solid and don't feel at all like they are going to break or shear off. So you may want to try to get a replacement for your figure. At a price tag of over $50 you want to be 100% happy with it. And if you get another one, it probably won't have that bicep issue.
I would hope that means mine is just a bad copy and it’s not a common issue, but even here in the comments I’m seeing others mention they have the same problem. I hope yours doesn’t have it
I wish they could take the best parts of all the marvel legends Spider-Man figures and make one that had them all. The 1st appearance has some better poses ability but not toe articulation. And it has those stupid holes in the arms. The neck thing has always been weird to me. If sentential wasn’t so expensive I’d say that was the best Spider-Man so far. But other Than that the renew your vows is a pretty good one for the price.
great vid man! was wondering tho if u had any fix in mind for the gummy biceps to maybe stiffen it up abit cuz i think i got unlucky too on my spidey's right bicep being really frightening to pose and play with. thanks for the help and review!
Thanks! Sadly I don’t have a fix for it, but someone here in the comments did suggest using silicone shock oil- typically used for loosening joints- which might help it be smoother to articulate. Haven’t tried it yet myself tho
@@SpoonDude yeah it really does suck I was looking for a cheap price on retro spidey on mercari ever since it came out but it was too overpriced and I was so excited to get it but mine was really detached out of the package I saw like 90 percent of the peg and I've been noticing most comic figure are really low quailty recently(( future foundation stealth spidey )) I've kinda been sticking to mcu also because movie figs now because they usually have new molds now
Nice review! Can't wait to get mine! Quick question, what exact paint did you use for the pins on the Retro Spidey? My copy has a lot of blue parts chipped now and I would like to fix it up.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy this figure as much as I do For the pins, I mixed a navy blue acrylic paint with some white until I more or less matched the shade of blue on the retro
Dude that gummy arm peg i get it too on the Doc ock amazon Exclusive Two pack and i feel the same as you "if i dont be really carefull maybe i'll snap that arm" for the prices is really so bad that the QC of hasbro is going down, and maybe they dont even care...
The entire torso is re use, the new arms with the gappy stuff going on is a design flaw, I suggest putting dish washing liquid on the bicep swivels to make the bicep swivel move smoothly and kind make it less gummy Also I dont think you need to dis assemble to figure to put the dish washing liquid due to how gappy it is, but if U wanna see if u can make it less gappy by disassembling the figure I guess thats fine but it is risky A quick note that happened to me when I put dish washing liquid into it, the biceps become tight and squeaky, but after waiting for a bit the squeakiness disappears and it becomes smooth
I respectfully disagree- I do prefer the double ball peg neck articulation… when done right. The best double ball peg neck is better than the best disk hinge neck- GOOD ball jointed necks get really dynamic expressions in all directions and can be done in a way without gaps. The disk hinge prevents good head tilting unless you have an additional neck joint or make the head “lollipop-ed” on the hinge but that results in gaps and an ill fitting head I do agree tho that a standard disk neck hinge would be better than the atrocity at display with the Retro Spidey’s neck. This neck joint gives the double ball peg a bad image
That’s debatable- going strictly by 1:12 scale that’s objectively true… I’d argue tho that Marvel Legends run taller than true 1:12 anyway. The relative size between characters is also never precise, so for me I think the height works fine for a grown up Peter Parker If you like a shorter Spider-Man tho then maybe you’d prefer the Pizza Spidey or the amazing fantasy one
Spider-Man with movable toes may as well be chicks with giant honkers for legends collectors because they don't know how to react when Hasbro did something that has been done over a decade ago.
What’s your favorite Spider-Man figure?
All of them.
I’m not sure
toybiz mcfarlane spiderman

My top 3 Spider-Man in no order is .. 2099 , pizza and this one .

The unmasked head reminds me a lot of the original PS4 Spider-Man game model and I am a huge fan!

Ho Ho Ho, no they did NOT
I found them at Target this past week, it was the last one! I love this Spidey's logo tbh, it reminds me a lot of Sal Buscema's Spidey :)
The big logo is very striking! I’m surprised I like it a lot as well

My thoughts exactly
I have the same problem with the “gummy shoulders”

I just preordered the figure from my local EB games, I'm excited yet scared of all the risks, such as paint or gummy joints.
At this point with Hasbro that’s typical, I hope you don’t have any major QC issues
You are thorough. I subscribed. Nice review.

You are the only person to talk about spidey’s bicep joint. I thought I was just imagining the problem.
I've seen so many reviews of this guy and you're the first one to talk about the gummy biceps. That could present an issue when mine gets delivered.
I would hope that means mine is just a bad copy and it’s not a common issue, but even here in the comments I’m seeing others mention they have the same problem. I hope yours doesn’t have it
Vindicated at the end really sent me
Lol i originally had more of it but had to cut it short because copyright… glad enough of it was left in to recognize lmao 😂

I think the Vulcan body is perfect.
I wish they used that body for this guy.
Dude I had that same problem with the shoulder and it broke the day after I got it
Oh dang, that sucks. Very troubling that it’s a seemingly common issue

How to know the gummy biceps presence?
Nice review! Can't wait to get mine!

I’m only going to buy one more comic peter Parker so I’m waiting till we get pin less joints and a bright blue colour that I really like
Nice

Shock oil is a godsend.
I also have the gummy bicep on the same spot also. I guess there’s a sigh of relief that it wasn’t just me, but an overall issue for most copies
Sentinel peter b parker
New video when? It's been 3 months.
New video will be up this week :)
@@SpoonDude That's great.
Disk hinge necks are still superior.

I’m just happy to get a Spider-Man with a toe bend that isn’t an import figure
@Filmxyyeah but toybiz is ugly
How are people already getting this?? WHERES MY PRE-ORDER, BBTS??
Can’t speak for others, but I got mine because I bought him in person at a store lol
Where did you get him?
A comic store while I was traveling in Europe lol
Hey spoon dude red hood custom
I prefer the classic Romita/Ditko Spider-man,.
Unfortunately I have pretty gummy joints but mine fortunately isn’t terrible just gotta be careful
My Spider-Man has gummy arms too smh
That sucks to hear, shame it’s an apparently common issue judging by the comments of this video
Now we just need their daughter both in young and older form.
John Romita Jr spider-man
The gummynes on your figure's bicep Is worrysome. I could see that tearing soon. That sucks.
Dream works face? I think you mean the white skin stare
This body mold is to tall for Spidey
That’s debatable- going strictly by 1:12 scale that’s objectively true… I’d argue tho that Marvel Legends run taller than true 1:12 anyway. The relative size between characters is also never precise, so for me I think the height works fine for a grown up Peter Parker

Like it, bought it. Hate the price. I will pass in most Marvel Legends moving forward.

Not too bothered with about the gap in the back of the neck.
It’s definitely not a deal breaker, I knew the figure would have it and I still bought it.
