I have to go back and forth between divorced parents houses every week and was wondering if it would be too stressful to bring a snake with me to even bother getting one... I've researched a ton but keep getting contradicting answers so I was wondering during your take on it?🐍❤
Hi. I was looking through the coments and saw yours. I travel from North Dakota to Florida and back every year and bring my two snakes. It's a 72 hour drive there and back my snakes couldn't be happier.
I'd really consider taking my gecko with me with all the basic equipment. I don't think I've got anyone who would be willing to take care of my guy for an entire week or two... I was really hoping you would touch on that subject a bit more- Longer vacations
Yeah same usually for vacation we stay there for a week and my friend had experience with a bearded dragon but they might not be the same and plus my friend is pretty rough with her dog and I don’t rlly know what she would do and leopard geckos are wayyyyy smaller then bearded dragon plus I think it died idk but they didn’t really pay attention to it I don’t think they named it but yeah I don’t really know
There was a teacher at my high school that worked there for 30+ years. He wracked up so much vacation time, since we barely ever went on vacation. He took a whole year off to write a science book, I believe it was all paid for? I could be remembering wrong though. I'd have to ask someone who actually was in his class. But still, teachers still get weekends, holiday breaks and summer vacation. Oh yeah this teacher also had reptiles and "bugs" in his classroom. Cockroaches, a tarantula, snakes I think, and a few other things. I went into his classroom twice, but there were more.
Care sheets!! Whenever I have a trip I write out care sheets for my friends/family to follow! That way they know what to do, when to do it, and how much of it.
I look my leo on a three day car ride when we moved houses. She did really well, I kept her in a small carrier that was made for hamsters/guinea pigs and had her near the air conditioning (it was summer in an old car). When you're traveling with reptiles thermometer probes are your best friend. Also giving them something soft to hide in is good, I used a small pillowcase that was folded over to give her nooks and crannies away from the light.
Thanks for sharing! I've been wondering about this because, while I plan on living where I am for a while, I do plan on moving in a few years. And I kind of bought my leopard gecko after forgetting that. I'll have to remember about the soft thing to hide in. Might not use a pillow case, but it still is a useful tip...
I know this is 3 years later, but did you put a heat pack in the carrier? I'm going to be traveling with mine in the summer and would have the AC on, but didn't know if I needed a heat source as well since it will be hot out?
@@sydneysammons7227 sorry for the late reply, but over the 3 day trip we stopped at motels and i'd put her heat mat under part of the carrier (its important you make sure they still have a place to go to cool down if you do this though!) and i also left her some water and vitamin powder to help herself to overnight. in the car there was no heat mat and i just made sure her temperature was neutral with the thermometer probe. hope this helps!

There's a probability I might end up moving over seas. What would be the best way to get my leopard gecko over? Are planes safe for them? Mr. Savage it’s the same thing if you have a friend or relative that you trust and you’re away for long time or you don’t have a relative or family member you can always leave it with a college friend of yours or you take him or her with you and by that I mean the gecko and leave it somewhere where people will not come in or come out and only you can come in like a janitors closet with an outlet so you can plug the light in
If you are moving you can take your gecko with you, just bring all it’s cage and supplies and put them in a carrying case (container will work ) and put air holes in it and mist it down if you have a crested gecko (make sure your gecko can move container around a little in the but it doesn’t need lots of room

Uhm ..oh Uh well im going to mexico in airplane and we can't afford to get it a ticket and we cant bring its tank so.. Idk what to do i will try to find someone but we arent yet
Don't get a pet that needs a lot of care and that can't really travel if you want to go and travel, just make more sense than getting an animal and putting it at risk just so you can go somewhere else, don't get the responsibility if you are not willing to be responsible.
My cuz just got a fat tailed gecko and I’m getting one too I’m going to get a female just like hers and she has a 15 gallon tank so I can drop her off and go so ya
I wanna get a gecko but my family does a lot of traveling and we don’t really have anybody to care for it if we get one and we go away for weeks I feel like I shouldn’t get pne
Ill tell them if we get someone to care of our pets "feed the crickets with this powder wash its moss floor twice a week and feed it a cricket on morning afternoon and night"xV

Don't get a pet that needs a lot of care and that can't really travel if you want to go and travel, just make more sense than getting an animal and putting it at risk just so you can go somewhere else, don't get the responsibility if you are not willing to be responsible.

can you drive your gecko home when you buy the gecko
Dawn Alderson How else are u supposed to bring it home
Yes of course, you’ll have them in a box and you can take them in the car
Dawn Alderson you can
Yes. But I would recommend checking on your gecko often, just to make sure it is not panicking too much. This especially if you live quite a distance from where you adopted your gecko
She never talked about buying geckos 😑
What if someone were moving
