Gotta say, watching you do those looked exactly like I have done them for almost 16yrs. Quick and simple process and yet is one of the most overlooked items on the front end. Great job and great tutorial!
If it had not been for your power steering trick I would not been able to complete my task. You sir, or a genius! Thanks for the tips the video is awesome!
I know nothing about cars and this was easy to understand and follow, I just paused and hit google up for any parts I wasn’t familiar with. Thanks for helping me be more educated when I am speaking with the professionals working on my van 💕
Right on fella.. we’ll done .. like you say after taking it apart for the first time an keeping them anti seized makes for a easy come apart next time .. I used to have the same truck as yours an I remember doing that job .. the first time was awfull as it was all seized but I anti seized an then after that good to go .. but now I have the 2 wheel drive an don’t have to worry about it . An I don’t obviously plow anymore so it’s not missed .. I hardly drive my truck I winter cause my health condition is worse in winter so I don’t get too far so my 2002 truck I have now is only got 85 thousand original miles on it 👍 anyways I always enjoy your videos thanks man cheers
Good video.. just a trick I've learned. SKIP THE AXLE CASTLE NUT. just leave the hub attached to the stub end of the axle joint... Saves a bit of hard work and skips the retorque of the axle nut to 190ftlbs.... most people aren't capable of RETORQUEING TO THE SPEC.
I don't know The funny thing is is if you go over to a Ford front-end Dana 50 half shaft u- joint replacement, almost every video I pulled up was so concerned about pushing the u-joints out so you didn't bend any part of it. Is the Dana 50 that much weaker than the Dana 60? Also super curious is there not any kind of dust cap going into the axle tube at the end of the half shaft? I feel like there should be something there to keep dirt and rocks and crap from getting into the axle tube....
@@nicholashall6850 it’s pretty hard to bend them. Only one I use a ball joint press for are aluminum drive shaft u-joints. And no dodge don’t have dust caps that’s a ford thing
Great video just a little more detail Would be nice.. 2 questions. No worries about the u joint being damaged while Hammering? Also no certin way the splines line up goin back in?. Also would have been nice if it wasnt sped up knocking the u joints out. Other than that good vid
Are the axles both the same size for each side passenger side and driver side? I need to replace both front axles on my father's 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 sport edition with the 5.9. And it looks like the axles could be different lengths but I'm not sure. Any help will be helpful.
That’s def to much even for both sides. It pays 3.9hrs to do both front axle u-joints and that’s all data time. So he’s def ripping you off. So it’s about 2 hrs a side
Hey iv got a question about whitey so its a gas 318 5.2? and you can push a lot of power out of it cause i was told you cant push a lot of power out of them befor you hit a wall so what did you do cause i have a dakota with a 5.2 i want to build but im afraid if i should go with 5.2 or try to get a 5.9 or if you thing a 5.2 would be just fine?
This is a stock 5.2 318 magnum yes gas but e85. Head studs and cams all that’s done to the motor and 15psi of boost and 50 shot of nitrous. She handles it like a tank

The axles shafts are different lengths and styles. U-joints are the same the passenger side axle is a two piece design
What’s the u joint part #? That would be good to add for those watching the video. Or future ones.
It’s in the description of the video
what made u replace the u joints what truck shaking around 40mph-50mph?
The axle nut wasn’t 1 1/16th, Mine ended up being 1 11/16
