Packed with advice as usual. I really love the way you explain technique as part of a process instead of just saying “Here’s how to do this bit”. And a few more techniques to try out …. Bonus!
This is perfect timing for me. I just bought myself a dip pen and some ink. I haven't used it yet, supposed to be a Christmas gift from myself. So, this is everything I needed to know, thanks so much. I'd love to see more videos on ink and watercolour.
I agree 100% with your opinion on pens. I only use fountain pens with permanent inks. Most of the fountain pens I use for artwork aren’t that expensive. I mostly use Noodler’s Ahab semi-flex nib pens. I bought a bunch of their untipped nibs so I can modify them. The untipped nibs are only $2-$3 each. I made extra fine nibs and some broad nibs for different line widths. I also use the refillable cartridges rather than the piston converter to hold the ink. The refillable cartridges hold a ton of ink. So there’s no dipping and the chance of dripping ink on my artwork.
This is a style I really want to master. I enjoy those one continuous line drawings with watercolor paint finishes. I bought an Eco fountain pen a year ago and have been sketching but have not yet attempted to create an actual work of art. Michele’s skills with a dip pen are so impressive such control feels like I am cheating by using a fountain pen.
Great tips, I’m glad I found you! I love the way you say calligraphy. I’m from the US. I hope your eyes feel better soon. I have a condition that makes my eyes dry all the time. It’s no fun.
LOL - I love it. I am unrepentant about my nibs as well. At least the ones I use for drawing. I absolutely loved this video Michele - just brilliant and helped me so much. xoxo
Some really great tips, Michele, thank you. I would be interested in more ink videos like the hut in the woods one that you did, I thought that was fabulous 😊
I enjoy line and wash as a step up from just sketching. I would be interested in more about all the types of inks. For example are acrylic inks really ink ? They have a different appearance from other inks when used. I have done pictures using just colored inks instead of watercolor and it works fine but you have to work fast since you have such a rapid dry time.
Another good video. A little tip. Perhaps you could during the Japanese Lady in your „gain confidence in watercolour course“, your super tips on not making droplets of ink worse. Or this video as an extra. Useful for ink drawings. Thanks.
Thanks for this. I have been using ink lately and this helps. Actually I have been using water soluble ink in fountain pens because I do a lot of cafe sketching. I have tried adding some colored watercolor pencil for color. It is an odd combination but I can't take dip pens with me to a cafe. Because I have to do the color first I can't get a lot of the effects of adding color later. I have mixed the ink and the watercolor pencil by blending the two together especially with the darks. I have one cartridge pen that is permanent but its point is too thin so I am sticking to the water soluble ones. Do you have any suggestions for people who work plien air?
A cartridge pen is a great idea, a water brush is a good idea too if you haven't tried one. You can also make a little watercolor pencil palette by scribbling swatches onto paper and re-wetting it for a little colour pick up.
Link is in the video description. I can't put links here but the title is 'Tonal contrast in Watercolor Painting!' Pop it in the UA-cam search bar with my name and it will come up :-)

There are loads of different types of ink, acrylic inks tend to be a little more permanent than others.

Good ideas!
These tips are brilliant. What were you baking?
Bread 🙂 Always make my own. Too much rubbish in shop bread 🍞

I don’t see the video about tonal contrast. I think this is what I am experiencing right now and need help.

I have used dip pens in the past, but I kept getting big blots on my work, I now Only use fountain pens and I have not had the 'blot' problem
Where are you buying your nibs; a few pence, really? Interesting video.
Local art shop, definitely under a £1 each :-)
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I must leave the house more, I get mine online and few are under a pound, thanks.
Repent! lol
