I think you'll love that solent rig guys --- especially when the wind is above 25 kts. The boat will feel so much more under control...... Being able to reef it would be a super addition as well when you have the opportunity. Hope the passage to Bermuda was uneventful. :-)
Nice to see you here Patrick, one question, why the solent rig will make the boat to feel more under control? because you use only the smaler front sail? Is it useful in any point of sail or specially reaching.. or some other? Thanks!
Hey Patrick thanks very much for your comments! The passage to Bermuda was eventful to say the least. We have used the new rig wing on wing and it is amazing! We love your videos keep them coming. Cheers Patrick 🤘

You should over size your new holes, then fill them with epoxy, then drill the correct size holes. It will protect the core incase the bolts ever leak.
just to be picky: you have made a solent rig, where inner stay terminates at top of mast and both sails are foresails. A staysail is flown on a cutter rig where the inner fore stay terminates part way up the mast.... Fair winds lads,
Right, so your new inner stay is a Solent stay. Won't give you increased performance on a close reach, but better downwind sailing wing to wing and more flexibility to reduce sail area when sailing with inreasing windspeed, better upwind performance in strong winds and less stress for your genoa by avoiding to sail upwind with a half roled in genoa. A roler furler is never a good roler reefer. I plan to do the same this winter on my Allegro 27. Fair winds and following seas
We have set up our Oyster 35 in a similar manner, the staysail on the inner forestay is very useful upwind in a stronger breeze. It makes helming much easier on a beat as the boat tracks much more smoothly.
The information you've provided is both edifying and well stated, not "picky" at all. Clear and correct information is a valuable commodity. Thank you.
Good luck guys, great job on the new rig. Like others I was concerned for Lukes knee v chisel. But that's coming from a bloke who drilled through his thumb when a drill snapped😬. Great video take care.
Thanks Jeff 😁. I really shouldn't have been chiseling towards my knee 🤣. I think you have us mixed up, that's for me Adam. I once drilled into my son in work a long time ago it was horrendous

A quick tip with dewalt drills. When you tighten up the chuck on a drill go as tight as you can then come back one click. This locks the chuck on the drill bit. It wont come loose in the hole like happened here. Great job on the install but i have a nagging feeling that using aluminium washers and spreader plate with stainless steel bolts may bite back due to dissimilar metal corrossion.
I will definitely give this a go with the drill Steve. Someone else mentioned the use of stainless steel with aluminum. We are keeping a close eye on this
@@TheSailingBrothers if you ever had metal fillings in your mouth and touched them with silver foil then you will understand the reactions of dissimilar metal.

Looking good! Two points, please don’t chisel towards your knees/body! When you’re sailing normally will the the inner forestay be located? Can interfere with your tacking if left in place! Hope you’re enjoying a good passage 🍀👍all the best from Harwich, Essex.
Not to worry Duncan as the chisel was extremely blunt. Unfortunately we have to furl the Genoa to tack as it's fixed in place. You can remove it as it's only a turnbuckle and pin but today is nowhere to properly store it at the moment 🤔

Hey Brothers, love the channel. Newbie question so I’m sure I’ll get smashed by the know it alls…. but with that new forestay doesn’t it make it hard to tack with the genoa out or partly out? Clearly I’m not understanding something here so please let me know. Agree though it does look awesome.

It was a little late coming out. We released it yesterday afternoon 😁
Cutter rig my favorite. It's quite a long way forward. Is that for performance?
All looking good, take care
To be honest it's more like a solent rig because they stay is very far forward. It's because the bracket in the mast was near the top.
Now, how about running backstays? Wing and wing puts new pressures on the backstay.
No need for running backstays Stephen as the stay is very high up the mast near the top. If we ever had an issue we would use a halyard ✌️
Nice foreplay, i mean forestay! LOL I'll bet that adds 1-2 knots to your speed. What was your average cruising speed down to Bermuda? Were you noticeably faster?
🤣🤣opps
Our average speed was terrible. We didn't have the best of weather. Lots of headwinds and rough seas 😧.
Mother's can get over yoj at the beginning swinging ye Arms an blowing the sails, she's ask why lol
😁
Should use a hot iron to delaminate the ply wood. Miles easier
Never even thought of that Graham 🤔
So every time you tack, you have to roll up the head sail and then unfurl on the opp side?
That's exactly right unfortunately
Where is the chain locker?
It's in the v birth William
What is supporting the back of the mast against the forward pull from the inner forestry? Running back stays?
I believe it is a solent rig which goes very nearly to the top of the mast and so the back stay will still hold every thing tight. A true cutter rig with a staysail would need runners or running back stays. Good job all round though. 🐟 😁
We don't need running back stays as the boat is not a proper cutter rig. It's more of a solant rig. The stay is positioned high on the mast and far forward on the bow.

Are the heads on the cup head bolts going to shear off ?
I certainly hope not
Sorry but I asked the question before seeing the hole video cheers
The wood for inner stay should epoxies to prevent rotting..
