This made me realize just how terrifying a speed runner must be for Bowser. You spend months, maybe years planning the takeover of Peach’s castle. The day finally arrives, and the plan goes off perfectly! It’ll only be a matter of time before the entire Mushroom Kingdom is yours.
The you hear Mario is on his way. You strategically divide your forces throughout the castle, lay out some traps, and wait.
Mario arrives, and immediately starts breaking the laws of physics.
What.
Somehow he knows exactly where to go, totally avoiding your traps and heading straight to where you’ve been hiding.
In less than 10 minutes, this man, seemingly possessed by a god, has undone all of your hard work.

1:23 I'm just now noticing that the portraits scrolling past Mario make an animation of Bowser laughing before realising what Mario is doing. Very clever!
My theory is the speed demon is in fact the player, who grabbed mario at the beginning, which in turn possesses marios spirit and corrupts it via the monstrosity that is speedrunning. Mario is only this way because the player has forced him to. It also explains why everyone else is acting normal and afraid of what mario has become. Mario also demonstrates emotion at the beginning of the episode, which being fear, shows up nowhere else in mario until years later. The player must be taken out of mario so that mario has a free will.
And when mario loses the speedrun (subspace emissary) the player decide to play with other character, Sonic, but Nintendo fixes the bug of the speedruns, but it didn't stop in the Sega games, so this is why the player has decided to play Sonic now
