    Welcome to Minivan Camper Gal! I'm Kelly and I camp and travel in a Chrysler Pacifica Minivan, doing part-time van life. Here you will find van build videos, tips on the digital nomad lifestyle, general travel vlog videos, and more. I'm into minimalism, and I eat a mostly plant-based vegan diet. I'm still learning how to do vegan vanlife well! I have some great vegan camping recipes to share with you, but would love some suggestions, too! Sometimes I stealth camp in the city, but mostly I like to boondock. Join me and my camper van as we embark on all the car camping adventures!

    That’s about the size solar generator. My wife would need for her no build SUV car camper. I don’t think we want anything too much smaller than that but I think that could probably work.

    We got a light similar to that one 7:28 with the fan, except it, has to the batteries

    This was helpful. I have a new power station and will be trying things out to see how long it will last when I'm out camping in the car.

    Thank you for your review, I'm very interested in the solar panels and hopefully it's closer to the 140 in time after adjustment.

    Also get one of those bike generator. Maybe you can put out 200 watts petals.

    Thanks for testing the power station. I have a 12v kettle that heats up to 1-Liter of water, it takes a little long to heat the water, but doesn’t draw as much power. It’s nice to have a way to heat water for coffee without getting out the camp stove (I often do it at rest areas traveling).

      Hey Karin! Yes, it is nice. I’m glad this one can run my kettle. That’s cool you have a bigger one- I had a hard time finding one that was under 1200w.

      @@minivancampergal1554 well, it took a while, but I found my type uses 250w (12v appliances usually use lower wattage than 110v ones). It can take 18-25 minutes to heat a whole liter, but is pretty quick for just a cup or 2. When I make a kettle while traveling 🧭 say on I-5 in Northern CA I pull into a rest area, add water to the kettle & plug it into my auxiliary battery’s 12v socket to heat while I use the rest room, wiggle, and setup my pour over coffee… and by then the water is hot. My other much used while traveling 12v appliance is a HotLogic Mini that slow cooks while I drive along. If I am cooking raw broccoli or Brussels sprouts (quartered) (or even frozen without adding water) in a Pyrex pan add 2 tablespoons of water to help it cook up but still have a touch of crisp it takes 45 minutes, but doesn’t overcook if I leave it for 3 hours. I don’t have to add more time to the 45 minutes if I add tofu or already cooked chicken sausage. But if cooking raw meat it has to be a minimum of 2 hours. Being able to eat hot lunches on the road at rest areas these past few years has been a real game changer.
      I’ve never cooked yams or sweet potatoes before, but might try on the driving part my next adventure. I’m guessing the first time I’ll cut it up in cube size like you did for your solar oven.

    here's the thing basically you ruined the session straight off when you plugged in the kettle.

      Yeah, I didn't know that then, but now I do. It's too bad the high powered devices pretty much suck all the power out right away.

    I wonder if that ~100 watt max that you experienced was because the power station was limiting the amperage? Loved your solar song btw!! :)

      @minivancampergal1554  Рік тому

      Hm, I've been wondering that too. I'm about to do another video comparing the solar panels, where I'm just going plug in a volt meter so I can see objectively how much the solar panel is putting out.

    I’m hoping you say something about the battery chemistry. If it’s not LiFePO4 it’s not worth buying. I looked it up online and it didn’t say it was LiFePO4, which generally means it isn’t. Any LiFePO4 battery has at least 3x the lifespan of lithium ion, which is in common usage but old tech.
    If your Igloo cooler is a thermoelectric cooler instead of a 12v compressor fridge, it will use MUCH more power than a fridge would. Thermoelectric coolers pull power constantly; compressor units do not.
    The ‘timer’ doesn’t reflect or relate to actual time. It is telling you how much stored power you have. Also, when you plug in a unit like your fan, it stops pulling power when the fan power source is full. So even though you have several things plugged on they may not be actually pulling any power.
    Your system is not 10 amps. If it was 10 amps it could only deliver 120 watts max. Amps x volts = watts.
    If you have 606 WH you will never get the full amount. The system retains some ‘cushion’. But the display operates based on the full amount, so it will never be 100% accurate. I think the cushion is typically around 10%.

      Thanks for all the tech info Ginger! This is great. Yes, it’s just a Lithium battery.

      Now you want to have solid state lithium. Last awhile charge faster smaller at the same amp hour.

  • @peterkotuc7866
    @peterkotuc7866 10 місяців тому

    hmm 🤔 let’s do some math… 606Wh should power 700W for bout 51mins… considering DoD for li-ions is 95%, should give us bout 49 mins… so when drawing 700w and last for 34mins, either this station is dreaming of 606Wh, or its inverter has 70% efficiency, which is not very impressive…

      Thanks Peter! I wasn't sure if I was thinking about that correctly, and didn't want to slander the company, but I appreciate your confirmation!
