  • I wanted to prepare some abstract seascape painting for tomorrow's village craft market, so I videoed the process, and run through a few basics on using Alcohol Inks.

Oh, I just was mesmerized by this process and loved the results!! I appreciate your sharing how to seal the alcohol ink and the different ways you frame and present the final picture…
Seriously, you made me determined to try my hand at alcohol ink’s again. I’ve spent a fortune on the materials….the only item I need to purchase is UV resistant spray…I’d never seen….
As always, thank you for sharing ❤

I’m off to watch it again….lol

This is fascinating, I really like the look of this style of painting Helen. Could I use a hair dryer as I don’t have a heat tool? And do you find you get through tons of the materials? It looks like you need to squirt on a lot but it’s hard to gauge in a video.

I'm not sure if a hairdryer would give you enough control really, unless you can get it on quite low power, and have a nozzle that concentrates the air a lot. People also use inexpensive hand pumps.
I don't get through the ink too quickly, but I use a fair bit of isopropyl alcohol. I buy that in bulk from Amazon. Jackson's do really good alcohol inks - the cheapest I've seen, but I prefer their transparent ones, not opaque.

Hello Helen...I have watched many of your videos and find them super inspirational! I live in France and although felt is the media I exhibit here I am keen to try the alcohol ink....looks as unpredictable as wet felting 😂.
I really like the mounting boards you have used for some of your pictures here. Could you tell me where you get them from please... and the cellophane pockets you display them in.
    Thanks

Oh Helen is that the color of the water where you live? That color is a brilliant teal sea blue!! Like the color in Hawaii, I live close to Santa Barbara California and our water is a greenish brown. Oh how I wish it was a little turquoise too! I have alcohol inks also but I didn't know if you can paint with them ? I was going to try them out on some tiles I have. Maybe I should get some more colors first! Yours is lovely 😍! Have fun 👍! ✍🎨😄👋

There's one area of the cove that is really green, and it's turquoise in the rest, but looks more like that in summer than winter - it looks greyer in winter.
Tiles it's a great way to go with Alcohol Inks! Just give it a go with what you have, to start! Maybe play around with a paintbrush too - though don't use your best watercolour brush - just a cheaper acrylic one will give you an idea if you'll enjoy it or not.

Thanks! I've actually never thought about trying that, but it would probably be good with a water based acrylic pen, like Posca.
