Whoever made that comment missed the point… I for once love watching book flip through videos, I see it as the equivalent of me seeing it in person in a book store. I actually bought many books I saw in videos before. Unfortunately not all books are available to browse on bookstores nowadays, so I appreciate the people who do so and try to do the same for others. Love this book (I have it also) and lovely artwork you shared.
I’ve bought 2 books now that you have featured. 🌸 I love both & prolly would not have bought either without your flip-thru. 🌸 Please keep sharing your favorite art books & supplies. 🙏🏽 I find it most helpful. 💕
I really appreciate the full flip throughs. I end up purchasing a lot of books for my studio reference library. So many contemporary art books have weird, violent, disturbing pieces and I would rather not put that in my psyche if you know what I mean. This looks like a great art-kickstarter!
@@helencryerThank you! I have a copy winging it's way to me now! For me, it is gardening season and I wanted to get right down to some of the lessons while I have good looking plants! 😊
Book flip throughs have the opposite effect for me...I often purchase after seeing the contents sampled. You are showcasing the book respectfully..Thanks Helen...Love watching you work !!
Lovely! I will be buying that book, and searching out her other ones. Living remotely half of the year I don’t get to bookshops very often so look throughs are ver helpful to me 😁❤
Hi Helen, like your videos very much, mostly because I find you quite genuine and honest about your process, so am able to relate and in your gentle way nudge me to pick up my brush etc. when I have lost momentum. Just keep going❤️
Lots of ideas in that book. You're really not helping my book addiction 😄 I was really attracted to that green in your ink painting at the end. It felt like an aerial view photo in a way. Notturno, I love it! What a delicious color. I've put together a palette of 16 colors that I wouldn't normally have put altogether so today I've been making color mix charts to see what interesting colors I can get from them. I have about three colors to go but the light is going so I'll finish them off tomorrow. I've found some interesting pinks by mixing quinacridone rose and sepia and some very nice blue greys mixing cerulean chromium and indigo.
Thanks for introducing me to Helen Birch! What a lovely book. I find book flip through videos excellent to make a decision whether to get the book or not., so keep them coming. I first check whether my library has it (physically or as an e-book) If not, I might buy it, used if possible. I don't have that much space (or $) to get all the books I want and I am trying more sustainable options. So keep the book reviews coming, I am here for them.
What a fun exercise, for such a simple painting it looks great, will give this a go. A lovely inspiring book, thanks for the flip thru, off to watch the ink painting video now, beautiful ink paintings btw, really bright and cheerful.
Not had time to watch your video yet but I have several of these books and they are brilliant for thinking about trying different techniques and for general inspiration, one of my go-to's when I am in an art slump. She also gives links to the artists' own websites. Well worth adding to your art library!
I like flip throughs! I do this "analog" as well in a way....I check out a ton of art books from the library so I can skim them and then decide which ones are worth investing in. And...that's how I treat flip throughs as well....I rarely buy books any more unless I've had a chance to peek inside first. I liked your demo at the end!
The book flip through was great. I really enjoyed it and I very much appreciated your painting out one of the examples in the book. I think your painting came out beautifully. I loved seeing your alcohol ink paintings. I’ll go look at your video on them. Thank you so much, Helen!
Thank you so much for all your sweet videos. You brighten my day. I love the paintings at the end. I should pull out my alcohol inks and have some messy fun. Thank you Helen!❤
I really love the alcohol paintings, the colors are gorgeous; especially the non-seascape paintings. It's nice seeing different color schemes. Your wash painting, reminds me of some art i did in school, simple yet beautiful (and I too touched it before it was dry lol). Keep up the lovely work!!❤
@@helencryer I did not go to art school, I just took a few classes. I gravitatwd toward watercolors and minimalist imagry which your painting reminded me of.
Ha, I have a cousin called Helen Birch! I love the graduating paintings, fun to do and they always look lovely. Wowser on the alcohol ink ones. Please don't cut up the big green one with the purple. It's beautiful and I love it. 😊💕
I've always wondered if people were saying flick through and they are!! Your title proved my query. I used to rewind videos and it would perplex me lol over here in Canada and the US we generally say flip through :)
Hi Helen. I too love to see books when they're shared by others and often end up hunting down copies for myself - Jeanne Dobie is one you shared recently that I bought after seeing you mention it. I would however caution sharing the entire book. There are strict copyright rules regarding sharing a book's content without permission, even in video format. Not only is it very easy for someone to pause the video on each page and screenshot it to create a PDF version for themselves, but there are also rules on 'monetising' a book's content for your own financial gain - which ads on a UA-cam video would probably count towards. I try to share no more than 20% of a book's content when I do share them, for this reason. Just something to be mindful of. xxx
That book is lovely, I’ve ordered one 😅 thanks for sharing, there’s some lovely art in it. Do you use a particular paper for your alcohol ink art? It’s absolutely beautiful xx
I hope you enjoy it! Grafix Craft Plastic is my favourite, though I've used a few different Yupo papers with it. They need to be used with non-absorbent papers really, to get their full effect.

Thank you - that was my thinking too. I won't buy books anymore without looking through them. Some front covers are too misleading!

I love the flip-throughs and I think this is definitely a book I’ll check out! I *love* the index/table of contents 😊.
It's just visually gorgeous isn't it?!

Yep - I like to see books before I buy, as I've bought too many in the past based on just a front cover, and been disappointed.

Ah sorry - I misread it! We just had horrible poster paint at school, so I never discovered the joys of watercolour till a few years ago!
This is a great exercise
Thanks so much for this! I love your channel so much Helen x

I have no idea! Haven't seen her for over 30 years. I don't come from a very close family. 😊
