This is the first song you've heard that has Tatiana's low growls. (Edit, oops my bad forgot the end of Wallflower). One of my most cherished memories is of standing by a stack of speakers the first time I saw them live and feeling her words shake every cell of my body when she went low. Pit Of Consciousness is another that has them and the Live In Kiev (now Kyiv) video is epic. An older on that's 80% growls but with a bit cleans and some reggae is Who Is Gonna Be The One - Tati's stage presence is epic and it's amazing how much vocal variety she can achieve with mostly just growls, and the instrumental composition is sublime.

It would be interesting to see your impression of one of the older songs. Outlander Official Live at Lou8dfest or No Hoard of Value (lyric video), Who is Gonna be the One Live or Captain Clock Live at Resurrection Fest. Any of those are a good comparison between this one and their music then.

That's a song that I wanted to see! Thank You so much for it Rachel! When it comes to songs that I like I always give my interpretation about it. Jinjer is in fact a band that always talks about the nature of things. In this case Tati describes the nature of the vortex. To me it's a mix of water and wind. Water is very important for living, but can turn into tsunami and become a cause of death for many people who are living close to the sea. Wind is much more chaotic element and it can appear on the land like a hurricane or in water like vortex. So we are dealing with the favorite concept of Jinjer which is dualism- one aspect of thing is good, while the other is bad. Some people can be described like a mix of water and wind too. Their good nature makes them very helpful like the water which is important for living, but when they are figuring out that something isn't right their inner wind can make them very pissed off and turn them into vortex that can destroy everything in their path. This is my life lesson to all: if You see someone who is very helpful, don't depend on that You will receive a help from this person again. More important is that You don't show them, that You are clearly using them, otherwise You might regret it. 😂Great reaction!😃 And I'm giving You a hint Rachel: despite this song Vortex was created later, I consider it a prequel to I Speak Astronomy by Jinjer. You should check it out next. 😉

Really glad to see you enjoying more Jinjer!! They are just so dynamic and the balance and contrast is engaging in the unusual way they compose their songs. I would recommend "Home Back" as you know this band very well now and could appreciate what that song means to them. And an older one, "I Speak Astronomy". Great reaction!!

Rachael, I love your Jinjer reactions! Of the hundreds of reactors to their songs, you have the best, legitimate reactions. The smile says it all. If you're looking to do more of Jinjer, I recommend 3 of their bigger songs that people just don't react to. Pit of Conciousness, Who is gonna be the One, and Call me a Symbol are all so good. If you do react to them, I can't wait!

I love when they go proper thru-composed like this. Cos who needs choruses, that's why!! The composition here is much closer to classical variations-on-a-motif-or-two than the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus modern popular music formula.... & I'm 100% here for it. The whole "Wallflowers" album is super special. :)

This is my second favourite Jinjer song. As a prog fan, my number one is I Speak Astronomy. The time signatures they use in it will blow your mind, yet the first two verses are really sassy and come across as quite poppy (until you try to nod your head along with the music!). The second part of the song has an epic quality (don't get caught out by the false ending).

Ive never really known how to describe her voice other than rich. Like the first few lines of this song and i can just picture her at a fancy club in a red dress singing soft jazz while a dude in a white suit plays the piano. If that makes any sense

In metal there are often times very weird time signatures and polyrythms which are hard to pick up on the first listen.
But thats the great thing about it because that way this music doesn't get boring.
If you listen to the Tetris melody for 5 hours streigt, as catchy as it is you will go crazy.
But if you listen to stuff like this, your brain will pick up on more and more of all of the ghost notes and polyrythms, so not only will you like it more and more, it will also become less and less chaotic, because your brain recognizes the patterns.

I live in an area where tornados and hurricanes are fairly common and they captured the effect of that perfectly in this song for sure. Always wanted to sync this song up with the twister scene from Wizard of Oz and see where the thing takes me.

Vortex is an acquired taste song. I did not like it at the beginning, but the more I listened to it, the more I find it genius, because I had time to disect it into its parts. Their music is on a higher intellectual level. When I remember classical composition rules or even the blues harmony scheme that is found in blues or rock'n roll. That all is child's play compared to what they are doing here.

This is my first time watching you react to anything so it's pretty cool that it's Ginger one of my favorites... Can you nailed it because I remember back when they were creating this song Tatiana was talking about it and said that it was different that there's no chorus there's no bridge it just kind of keeps going on through to the end.
And You're cute and I love the clear and honest voice that you have. You got me to subscribe...
