- Hello, welcome to the channel and an Autocar Heroes video, as we take the latest Porsche 911 - a Carrera 4 GTS - to meet its grandparent.
It's an original Gmund-built Porsche 356 from 1950, one of the very first sports cars with Porsche's name on it, built in Austria before the company relocated to Stuttgart where it's still homed today.
Why and how and what's it like and is it anything like a new 911? And how much is it worth? Join Matt Prior as he finds out the story of this fascinating car, the oldest Porsche in the UK.

Audio quality as good as those 356 wheels are wide
Those tyres look scary.
Extremely interesting to see, also remarkable that by ‘63 it had evolved into the 901
Fascinating seeing the 356. Is it me or is the audio more on the right channel than the left?

I do love these videos. However, watching on my TV, the audio quality is very tinny/low-fi. I wonder if that is something which could be improved?

I will never track any car, so the C4S GTS is a great road car. I wouldn't dare drive that classic 356!

Well no, chance is, the engine has been salvaged from a Kübel- or Schwimmwagen. Of all parts donors.
Why is the 911 so unique? Its all about the physics. And luckily, Porsche nailed the physics.
You really need to invest in some better sound equipment, makes the video sound very amateurish

Matt - another great video. I adore the Porsche 356 and this is a superb dive to that earlier DNA and I see so many comparisons with the early Low-Light Karmann Ghia’s from 1957 where I expect VW was trying to offer the every-man’s/woman’s version of a ‘Porsche’ as the DNA was not a million miles away. Sadly my two KG’s, a coupe and convertible will not fetch £2m . Ref the sound it is what it is in a machine of this age- if you have not driven something like this - they are loud - hence the sound quality which is authentic.
992 does have wonderful front end, but it is simply too large on the road, even compared to the 991. Too costly also, a victim of their own demand generation

@ steering feel: don't forget that in 1950 most roads were still dirt.
Not in GB, in fact they were better then. than they are now............................................
Terrible sound quality
Shift from 21:9 to 3:2 aspect was a nice touch.👍 Anyway, £2 million for that hopeless old shed is laughable. And I say that as a Porsche fan and not especially a modern Porsche fan.
The way the wheels are in set about half a meter from the fender on the old Porsche always makes me want to barf.

The 911 is not made any longer, call it by the correct model .
911 is it's "generic" title, no matter when it was built...............
