    It’s so interesting to see how people use that hourglass trio you showed as a highlighter. I’m very very fair and I mix the 3 powders together and it’s my bronzer 😂

    I can completely relate to the lesson you learned through this declutter. I found out two years ago that I do not like using face palettes. I hate when I cannot use all the shades in a palette because it makes me feel like I'm not getting the full value. I am super pale with an olive undertone, so colours can look wildly different on me than they do on others. I have never found a face palette that has multiple shades that I can use. The only one I own that gets any use is the Hourglass palette that you showed. I mix all three shades together to tone down the deeper side enough for it to work on my super pale complexion. So knowing that I have been able to talk myself out of any face palette releases. :)

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  Місяць тому

      That makes a lot of sense - why buy a whole palette when only one or two shades really work? I'm lucky in that I'm light, but not pale, and mostly neutral, so I can pull most shades off. I still have to be careful with cheek palettes though. I've become more more selective over the years. Isn't it great when we have an easy excuse to talk ourselves out of things?

      I love to refill palettes all the time and I love doing that! Palettes rarely work for me as I have light olive skin and most cream foundation or concealer colors in palettes don’t work. But I love all the different colors in them. So I take out the cream complexion colors and add in my own cream foundation or concealer from pots or sticks that are my olive colors. I have no problem discarding the colors that don’t work. Or I depot those into a little container and give them to my nieces if those colors work for them. You can depot the powders in that first palette and crush the powder and either leave it loose or repress. Love declutters!

    • @pappyone6062
      @pappyone6062 Місяць тому +1

      Add in some blushes either cream or repress powder blushes or highlighter colors that you love and you will already have the bro set color you love in that first palette. Do not throw it away. Just play!

      Aww it warmed my heart when you talked about giving that Patrick Ta palette to your niece because of the joy on her face. I've really enjoyed this video! Thank you 🤗 I would keep those powders from the Bobbi Brown palette - you like them and use them in the full palette, so you will get to them. Maybe add some cream products into the empty slots now, rather than wait for to finish those 2 powders👌

    I'm loving your Adagio Beauty videos and approach, Stephanie! I was just thinking how upset I would be if I opened my Nabla eyeshadow palettes to find them moldy or stinky, and knowing I set them aside to use eyeshadow I don't love just because I felt guilty for buying more and was trying to use up the other stuff. I just did a big declutter of all my makeup after having a color analysis. At least I got rid of the colors that don't work for me, but maybe I need to let go of even more. Man, I'm so glad I learned this early in my makeup journey (I just discovered makeup a couple years ago in my late 50s). I bought too much starting out, but now I know how long it takes to use something up, and I won't make that mistake again. I wish more content creators would mention this--how long it takes to use up a product (even minis!), as I had no idea. I loved your comment "I want to try everything, but I don't want to own everything." I'm not going to buy something I don't need just because it would be fun to try, and then it ends up sitting in a drawer for months or even years because I have too many other similar things I need to use up. Thank you for helping with all this!!

      I'm so glad to know that I can pass on the lessons I've learned so that not everyone has to learn the hard way, like I did.
      You're so right: I'd also love to see more creators talk about how long it takes to use things up. If you're looking for other creators, Natasha from @TooMuchTash and Sarah from @SarahRoseBeauty discuss those things sometimes.
      And the entire project panning community does too! (Although they all seem to use up makeup faster than I ever could). Two that immediately come to mind are Kim from @TeacherLovesBeauty and Jen from Project Beauty (@xxxaixo).

    I like the nail polish you have on in this. It's fancy.
    I can understand saving very useful packaging. I've still got the travel bag from an air mattress I bought in 2008 where the mattress only lasted a few months. The bag comes in handy for storing some of my extra bed linens. And I find that holiday cookie tins magically come in handy at times.
    High quality and something to keep you from wastefully spending money? those Hourglass palettes are something special.
    I hope the plan with the new buffing brush works for you. That's the kind of plan that I sometimes have with things, but they usually fall apart in my case.
    As much as I advocate for the idea that it's better to get exactly what you want rather than settle for good/close enough, I think your discussion of the nude blushes is a viable exception. Especially considering that the close enough open lets you spread joy to someone else by decluttering an intact palette.
    The highlighter palettes are perfect examples of how your organization system and chopping block/time will tell box should work for you.
    Drama isn't necessary in a de-clutter, but getting satisfaction out of it or having a realization that changes your thinking moving forward is a great end result.
    One of the things I'm still trying to wrap my brain around has to do with the usage you get out of the different products. So many of them that you show on camera look to me like they are brand new or rarely get used because they look so neat and tidy, especially the ones that have a design or text embossed into the surface. I get that it's probably a consistency thing and that in actual application you're using some sort of brush and not jabbing your finger down into the product. I suppose if I were a makeup user, my brain would have an easier go of it.
    The notification of this video on my phone was the perfect topper to what has been probably the closest to a normal feeling day I've had in a long time. So thanks for that. 😊

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you! I had fun with that manicure.
      Sometimes repurposed packaging is better than the thing that came inside of it. And you are so right about holiday cookie tins - those things have so many uses.
      I've been feeling good about keeping that palette with the perfect nude blush in the "Time Will Tell" box and haven't reached for it since. The joy of giving away a fully intact palette outweighs the "perfection" of that one shade in this case.
      When it comes to powder products, some makeup users deliberately drill into their powders with their brushes because they enjoy the satisfaction of seeing how much product they use. For me, it's all about even application and thin, natural layers. My technique wears down most things pretty evenly, so they look brand new for a very long time, despite regular use. And baked gelee formulas with embossing on them (like the Charlotte Tilbury palette) seem to take even longer for me to wear down because a little seems to go such a long way. So I can definitely see how you would think that they look unused. As someone who knows how regularly I use some of those powders, even I am shocked that there aren't more signs of use.
      I am SO glad to hear that you had something approximating a normal day! And I'm also very glad that I was able to be a part of it. It's always so lovely to hear your thoughtful responses, Zach. Thanks for being you!

    • @zachbecvar
      @zachbecvar Місяць тому

      @TheStyleStumbler I guess I got one day of almost normal before being battered by waves of the stupid... c'est la vie.
      Thinking about it, application does play a big role in how "used" things can look. I've experienced it where products seem brand new and freshly opened until the moment it's used up. I suppose everyone has their way that works for them.

    Yet again it was so fun to see the overlap in our collections. I love my CT Instant Look in a Palette. My NARS ‘O on the Beach’ is sentimental because hubby picked it out for me at Sephora in Las Vegas. And I also have what you called your ‘Summer’ Hourglass palette. But have depotted and mixed some of the shades together to make it work for me. I think this was a nice gentle declutter. Like you said, now your collection has some breathing room. I was looking for that shade of the Bobbi Brown bronzer and it looks like it’s no longer available. Such a shame, what a BEAUTIFUL shade! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

    You asked what we would do with the Bobbi Brown (BB) powder refills in the otherwise empty BB palette - I would take them out, put some Glad Wrap on them and put them away in an envelope - that way they would not take up any significant space in my drawers.
    They are powders, so keep well for long, and I might later use them either in a G-palette - or in the other Bobbi Brown palette after I use the ones in there. I would probably throw out the resulting empty palette: it creates unneeded bulk.

    Ditch the powder.
    Keep the bronzer, because you already decluttered the single pan you had- plus you said you really like the shade. You can either keep it in that pan and just replace it in palette 1 when you've finished that, OR take it out and repress into another pan for use in one of your other palettes elsewhere.
