    Hey everyone! There's a slight mistake that went over both of our heads while making this: You can't breed a 100% male species of Pokemon with a shiny female Pokemon to get 1/64 shiny odds. That statement was made forgetting that the female species is what determines what Pokemon will be in the egg.
    We apologize for this error, and hope you still enjoy the video despite this.

    Quite a lot of facts I didn't know here. Props to you and ProfessorRex for the research.

      Glad someone learned something new! There's definitely a couple of things I didn't know myself until I started looking into things for the video (the game preventing two shiny Pokemon from breeding due to thinking they're related is one such thing).

    An incest detector is new to me. GSC can be an odd case. Sometimes there are some hilarious glitches caused through Gen 1 remnants, like the Moon Ball bug, then you get heavy attention to detail like the incest thing with Pokemon Breeding.
    You'd think that with the room to execute such a detector better in later games, they opted not to go further with it. The best guess is for anti-frustration. Pokemon pimping truly stops at nothing!

      Yeah, I assume trying to prevent player frustration is why they didn't keep up such a thing (or maybe they just didn't care; who knows?), but that really is just such a neat attention to detail, to me. I'm not sure it's something most people would really expect, either, especially since there's no kind of check like that in any of the other games.

    First hehe. I always enjoy listening to people talking about some of the weirder things about shiny hunting, especially with the older games.
    Great Video! :)

      Thank you! These weird things really are neat; it's always interesting learning about how older games handled things differently, especially older Pokemon games.

    the starter gender ratio fact actually cleared up a misunderstanding I've been under for a long time! I remember years ago hearing about the IV gender/shiny conflict, but the fact I remember hearing didnt specify that it was only for that specific gender ratio group.
    I had believed since then, that all gen 2 pokemon operated on that principle! neat

      Huh, well, I'm glad this video helped cleared that up!

    The only shiny I have ever gotten was a shiny gligar back in gold, never seen another (not event) shiny pokemon in my life. I wish I still had that poke on my cart, but nice to see one in this video lol
    fun video! always happy to get more GSC content!

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  Рік тому

      Man, that's crazy you haven't gotten another shiny; they're so easy to get nowadays! Sad to hear that you lost it, and that it was on cart, so you couldn't transfer it to a newer gen. :(
      Still, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video! I hope you can find another shiny Gligar at some point!

    I got shiny Pichu first try the last time I played Crystal

      @yukihoshikawa  Рік тому +2

      Nice! I think Pichu was actually the first shiny I got from the Odd Egg while gathering footage for the video.

    Hey! Was curious if you could answer a question I had. While reading the explaination on screen at 1:37, does the 1/8192 odds of Gen 2 account for the pokemon you can encounter that CANNOT be shiny? Using shiny starters as an example, are the females that you can encounter (who will never be shiny) still make up that 8192? or is it only 1/8192 odds for pokemon who meet the criteria to be shiny (like the other 7/8 males).
    I know it's a super confusing question, but ultimately I'm trying to answer if certain hunts in Gen 2 are technically more difficult than 1/8192, or if all of the pokemon you encounter who can never be shiny are also accounted for in the base odds already.
    Thank you!!

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  9 місяців тому

      The 1/8192 odds accounts for things like females starters never being able to be shiny. As long as the Pokémon can be shiny, the odds are 1/8192 (the exception being Unown, due to how Unown works).

    Shiny Pokémon were such a big decision, I can't think of another game franchise with similar quirks (ignoring MMORPGs).

    I thought in gens 1 & 2 they were called DVs instead of IVs

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  11 місяців тому

      They can be, but at the end of the day, they're generally the same thing; DVs just go to 15 instead of 31, like with IVs.
      (DVs also have some other funny business with them, like HP being determined by the other stats' DVs, and special attack & special defense being one stat)

    So, are we not able to hack the egg ticket into a Japanese copy of GSC? Seems like the kind of thing that would be perfectly doable with a little digging through the game's memory.

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  11 місяців тому +1

      It's probably possible with ROM hacking or cheating, but I was talking about getting it through normal gameplay, without third party tools or edits.

      @@yukihoshikawa Oh sure, I just meant in the context of the 50% shiny rate being uncorroborated or whatever. It seems confirmable.
      Great video dude!

    Yes I deleted my comment, yes I commented before watching the rest of the video. For shame.
