If I were Japanese and had existed when Gold and Silver came out I would have been so pissed that the international versions got the Odd Egg for free and I didn't
I find it insane that nobody actually reported the Tentacool safeguard until 11 years later. I feel like there were so many kids playing this that it would eventually happen. Hell, I gave my friend (that is terrible at games) a month and a half to beat Outward and he managed to somehow mostly softlock himself out of the game to where I had to find a mod to reset his stats. Not shocked at the shiny Unknown not working in the cave in BDSP. I assume this is a bug, given this remake's track record. It's a cool discovery though.
@@wikiuser92 sure, but this is not an excuse for the shiny forms to also be counted for the purpose of the cave completion. So now there is a feature separating the shiny and non shiny forms, but this should have been accounted for for the cave completion. It’s an oversight whatever way you look at it. That was my point
@@meadandmilk But people _have_ encountered and had no idea what was going on, as evidenced by the reddit thread. Pokemon makes billions of dollars, it's the biggest franchise in the entire world, we don't have to cut them slack on "hard to encounter accidentally".
Okay so that Unknown cave fact is actually really cool but also really funny, I suspect that the reason why shiny Unknown isn't counted is due to a pokedex check during the event that didn't account for shiny forms (most likely overlooked since the chances of someone randomly going into the cave and getting a shiny letter there without having seen all forms is astronomically low, that also reminds me that I should probably complete the cave on my save since I've been going for a 100% run)
Someone else said shiny and regular forms are seperated in the BDSP Pokedex, while regular/shiny is considered one form in the regular games. So in essence, BDSP broke something the regular didn't have an issue with. I'm sorry if that was news to you lol.
Bro, literally I wasn't able to sleep today and opened youtube looking for a long video to hear while trying to fall asleep. THANK YOU! I'll tell you tomorrow if it worked
So the xy gift pokemon thing is weird because I distinctly remember somehow being able to send a squirtle to the box, and then when trying to pick it up later it wasn’t holding the mega stone, and the mega stone wasn’t in my bag either. I never got the blastoisite in that game. It would’ve been current patch xy too, not old patch. Another cool thing ive discovered is that at least in hgss, Chilan berries activate when hitting yourself in confusion. It was easy to replicate for me because I just went up against the union cave ratattas which have a chance to hold a chilan berry, confuse them with zubat’s supersonic, and watch them eat the chilan berry to lessen normal type damage when they first take confusion damage. When i checked on bulbapedia and serebii, they didn’t mention that. I guess i may have discovered a unique glitch or interaction? I wonder now if the chilan berry would still activate when taking damage from confuse ray, a ghost type move..?
Oh dang, that's an interesting note about X and Y! As for the Chilan Berry, there's a note on the Bulbapedia page for the Chilan Berry that reads "In Generation IV, it also activates for Struggle as well as when the holder hits itself in confusion despite dealing typeless damage. The Chilan Berry no longer activates for Struggle in Generation V onward."
Thank you for this video! I make pokemon quizzes for my friend's streaming channel and I like to use trivia questions to break up the sections, this video will serve my needs nicely!
How do Duking's Plusle & Hordel's Shadow Togepi work with full parties? Duking gifts a Plusle in Colosseum; while Hordel gifts you a Shadow Togepi to Purify in Gale Of Darkness, which you can trade back to him for an Elekid named ZAPRONG. I don't remember when Outskirt Stand opens in XD, but, probably halfway through. However, Duking's Plusle is gifted to you very early in Colosseum, namely after rescuing it from Miror B.. I'm sure neither of those games crossed your mind for Gift Pokémon, so it's fine. Those are the only ones you are outright GIFTED in the GC titles. The other 4 in XD are traded Pokémon. Also, PLA & Scarlet/ Violet have no Fossils you can revive. Shieldon & Cranidos are Coronet Highlands Space-Time Distortion Only Spawns; but, can be caught in the open in the Terarium's Canyon Biome. I've seen Shieldon Spawn on the landmass that looks like the Nature Preserve from B2/W2. Because a Tera Haxorus spawns there after a certain point in the game.
The unown thing doesn't surprise me. DP always used "encountered" to count for stuff, so they probably used the same flags. The shiny thing probably happened because they're "different forms" and they simply didn't make the flag apply to shinies cuz laziness of thinking someone would ever meet only a shiny form of one letter.
I'm a bit of a sucker for the black, personally, but I think it would've been neat if shiny Mega Charizard X used the Gen 2 shiny colors, since the non shiny is black like regular Charizard's shiny.
The shiny Unown forms not counting taking so long without being found out isn't too surprising given just the odds of not only finding a shiny version of one form and not encountering a normal version while looking for the other forms.
I had actually heard about the Unown one years back. I read it somewhere years ago. Definitely a weird and hidden bit of info, though. It's killing me that I can't remember where I'd heard about it, though.
That's a shame, cuz now I'm curious where you heard it too, LMAO. I know some people commented on the original video that the whole "only needing to see the 26 Unown" thing has apparently been known in the German Pokemon community for several years, if not the entire time Diamond and Pearl have been out. It might've been mentioned in a guide that got printed there? I don't quite remember...
@yukihoshikawa it's kindve fascinating to think about how each culture probably has cool facts they know about forever and other cultures find out way later. the chances of someone being bilingual and then sharing the fact in their second language on an online forum are just so low. (obviously this only goes for things that are shared among different region games)
In SV, the mystery gifts go directly to your box, even if you have empty slots in your party. AND, it's the same as catching a wild pokemon, the gift pokemon goes to the first empty slot starting from box 1, regardless of which box you checked last.
in gen 3, the person who switches first depends on the host of the battle, i wonder if this also applies the game engine used, if so it might be worth testing the multi-hit status glitch, by hosting between different sets of hosts. (for example: rs/frlg hosting an emerald game and the other way around)
Wait pichu is one of the rare ones to hatch from the odd egg? Cool. I got lucky. I only reset twice because the first two weren't shiny. And boom pichu

So like not sure if anyone else has said this but I have a hypothesis on the strange ability text for the glitched static, I'm thinking since static is activated via the pokemon's ability maybe the game uses a preset text for when a pokemon is statused via any ability, the text being "[target pokemon] was [status]ed by [user pokemon] [user pokemon's ability]" and the game doesn't check to see if the ability is able to do that, this would make a lot of sense cause that's a really easy way to save a little space and makes the workload easier

I personally don't get how a video like this would help me sleep or study - I think I just need silence or white noise to fall asleep - but hey, if it helps other people, I figure why not help them out.
@@yukihoshikawa Yeah, I think it’s more than longer videos are better for the algorithm. I’m a sucker for podcasts and background noise while working videos.
To be fair the unknown shiny cave fact only applies to the re-release of the game, at least thats whats implied by the gameplay shown not the original game
What if you encounter all 26 Unown, but every one of them was shiny? Could that open up the cave as if they were on a separate counter or something? Please test 🙏
re: double kick status effect glitch text correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems that every clip used where the glitch text ("NIDORAN's Poison Point paralyzed the foe's PIKACHU") appears is FRLG, while the clips where it doesn't are in RS. could that be why?
25:15 funner FUN fact: in exclusively Gens 1 and 2, the values that differentiate Pokemon's stat distributions are known as DVs (Differential Values) rather than IVs (Individual Values). Coincidence? I think so. But it's still funny nonetheless!
Honestly, the only game that I’ve played that I’m OK with shiny hunting in, keep in mind I never played a Pokémon game until I got a switch, is the legends game. I think it’s mainly because I can keep throwing pokeballs as long as I can make them. And when you come across like five dustox it’s easy just to keep throwing them until one of them fails an escape check. It’s more work, but it’s less stressful than sword and shield.
The other nice thing about Legends is that there's an audible sparkle when a shiny Pokemon is nearby. You can also just save in front of the shiny Pokemon, in case you fail to catch it and need to reload - it'll still be there, IIRC.
@@yukihoshikawa currently I’m working on a sword and shield living dex (I gave up shiny hunting that a long time ago) and I’ve been trying to speed up my max battle hunts and I’ve noticed that if I’m online while I do them and then disconnect/reconnect before the last battle, most will respawn. I’ve filled 4 boxes doing that.
6:58 - This whole exchange is a reference to Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past. In that game, there are 2 fairies - 1 in the Light World, 1 in the Dark - where if you throw certain items into their pool, they will reward your honesty with an updated version of that item. That's how you get the lvl2 shield, magic boomerang, lvl4 sword, and silver arrow.
both the protein well guy and what you're describing here are actually references to a fable called "the honest woodcutter" that is referenced a lot in japanese media. theres one in animal crossing aswell iirc

There's also the fact that you only need to see the Unown, not catch them. That's something that applies to both games.
@@yukihoshikawa yeah that's why I said the shiny part dude 😎 and yeah I never caught those mfs either
What if you encounter all 26 Unown, but every one of them was shiny? Could that open up the cave as if they were on a separate counter or something? Please test 🙏
HOLY SHIT I KEPT WATCHING THE VIDEO AND HE ACTUALLY DID IT?????? That’s actually so sick you rock bro
re: double kick status effect glitch text
correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems that every clip used where the glitch text ("NIDORAN's Poison Point paralyzed the foe's PIKACHU") appears is FRLG, while the clips where it doesn't are in RS. could that be why?
Now check if the caves done with q full shiny dex
Hope everything in your personal life gets better
49:50 was emerald player 1? I'm thinking that might be the cause of your moves being reset to normal accuracy and pp
i swear i watched this exact fact video on a different channel before....
Well I hope nobody's stolen my videos 👀
25:15 funner FUN fact: in exclusively Gens 1 and 2, the values that differentiate Pokemon's stat distributions are known as DVs (Differential Values) rather than IVs (Individual Values). Coincidence? I think so. But it's still funny nonetheless!
7:05 Zelda reference I guess
5:32 do I want to know what you called that gangar?
Well I know now…cool? Idk
What’s the song at 26:56?
National Park, from Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal!

5:30 I have to know gengars nickname
i should have kept watching
6:58 - This whole exchange is a reference to Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past. In that game, there are 2 fairies - 1 in the Light World, 1 in the Dark - where if you throw certain items into their pool, they will reward your honesty with an updated version of that item. That's how you get the lvl2 shield, magic boomerang, lvl4 sword, and silver arrow.
both the protein well guy and what you're describing here are actually references to a fable called "the honest woodcutter" that is referenced a lot in japanese media. theres one in animal crossing aswell iirc
@silverroll2737 Whoa, had no idea the lore rolled so deep!

I need the music list I need to know the music on 37:26 I can't remember :(((
The song that plays at that part is the Battle Sim trainer theme from Pokemon XD!

The thought of you forever stuck loosing the race technically catching unknown vs digging out the cave is so sad lol
Just encouraging kids to complete the cave always getting those last technical 2 forms after the cave is open .
You released a shiny ?
LoFi Lore to Sleep and Relax to 😊
do we know if the cave finishes if you see every shiny unown without seeing every non-shiny
