Very cool to see the side-by-side tests! I hope you continue to make videos! I really like the technique of using wild yeast. It’s interesting that grapes and raisins fermented quicker, but they all fermented naturally. Awesome!
Thank you for this experiment! The visual aids with different colors are a very helpful learning tool! I know you only have four videos but I like all of them so far!
Yes. For that keep few unwash grapes aside and crush them. Wash the rest of the grapes and make juice out of them. Mix both and fermentation will start within 12-24 hours.
I didn’t use these samples for anything other than to show that yeast is readily available in nature. I have used a variety of ingredients in my meads and I find that the taste from the yeast is pretty consistent - meaning that the taste is the same from batch to batch when making mead with the same ingredients (if that makes sense). The difference in taste stems from the ingredients themselves, not from the (wild) yeast.

Perhaps this is a contributing factor in wine overtaking Mead as people noticed the grapes fermented quicker?
Yeah, with modern yeast/nutrient additions, mead is now faster.
You should have made a bottle of jenkum as a control.
I hadn't witnessed a reference to jenkum since my high school days. Thanks for the laugh!
Beautiful demonstration
Takk for videoer. Jeg brygger mjød i 5 år og synes at disse videoene er veldig nyttige og inspirerende. Skål!
Takk for en hyggelig kommentar. Skål!
Excelant video, it is important to get organic varieties to get better results as many fruits have chemicals on them which may inhibit yeast growing
So cool experiment! Gotta try to replicate that
Nice! Pineapple peels have a lot of wild yeast too. Tapache (sp) is a wonderful drink.
Cool eksperiment! Elsker ideen med ballonerne :) Ville også fungere super godt til skoleundervisning
We can make grape wine without yeast

I liked when the yeast made vessels move while fermenting. 😄
Did you do a taste test on these yeasts and was it mead you made with each of them

It would be really cool to see you brew something with each of these as starters and compare the flavors they contribute to the final product
Interesting idea. I will see what I can do when my brewing season starts again in a couple of months 🙂. Thank you.
