I don't quite know what it is about this channel's reviews. They are less "mechanical" than other channels and they just feel natural and personal. I absolutely love this channel along with Harry's Garage.
there's several good channels that avoid going too technical, like hubnut, furiousdriving, harry's garage. I think the key ingredient though, is James' personality. Being charismatic helps a lot when you're a presentator/youtuber.
Tyrrell's Classic Workshop is good too.
I'm not all that interested in the numbers.
I dont care how many BHP my car has, I care about how it feels to drive. Does it make me smile? Does it make me happy?
Does it being me pride?
Cars about how they make me feel, and about their art, and about their history and their stories for me. That's where JamesEm, Tyrrell's garage, Hubnut Harry Metcalfe etc nail it so right.
I know Harry goes a little more into the raw figures than the others, but he still manages to make it more about the presence and experience than the numbers.
Thanks, that's very kind!
@@TheChill001 absolutely Michael. Thanks for the other channels.
James, your unadulterated honest opinion is always valuable. Never change!
Love the bit at the end when you say things should be falling off, I was having fun in my V8 doing about 160kph in the twistys when I saw the wing mirror wobbling terribly, thought sod it, I will get another one as it took off into the wilderness, then found out they were no longer available and were as scarce as rocking horse turd, bugger
I have tried 2 Aventadors. One is an early UK imports, the other is the Indonesian market from 2013. Vastly different. The early cars are clunky as all hell. The later car felt much better, the gearbox is not as awkward as pre-2013 cars, and it rides better. The spec on the later car that I tried is also very tasty. Balloon White (pearl colour) with Terra Emilia brown leather interior. Oh-so-good.
This! Exactly my impressions, go for a newer Aventador!
This is what appreciate about JayEmm reviews. An emotional aspect from a true car expert enthusiast proves enlightening in a way often overlocked. Interesting to see what you think of another Aventador perhaps even a slightly later one James.
Having owed a Diablo sv now for a couple years I can say the Diablo is awesome drive.
I also dreamed of having a Noble m600 one day, which I do have now and it’s the best driver’s car I have ever driven, it’s amazing
An M600 would be nice to appear here!
@@staLkerhu hopefully James will find time to pop up and drive it
@@JangosGaragebrokendreams looking forward to it something what I always end up looking at on autotrader
M600 is my top 10 dream car 😎👍 Very nice. Cannot wait to see what they'll bring with the M500.
The early Aventadors look the best. Fight me. Same with the Murcialago... And the Diablo... And the countach.
Couldn't agree more. The Lp700 is the purest and cleanest looking, way better than later iterations.
I always said early aventadors never looked good, they look plain and cheap
Periscopio tho 👌
From outside it looks sensational, from inside it felt cheaper than it should have
Early Aventadors look cheap and basic.
I think peak Lamborghini was the manual Merci... Savage, challenging, elegant, more functional than you'd expect and Audi had been in charge long enough that all bits were usually done up properly before it left the factory.
After that they just went a bit too aimed at the modern UA-camr for my taste. Not that it matters, they're a few price brackets out of my reach as things stand.
modern Lamborghinis are not Lamborghinis. Lamborghinis are made by Lamborghini people making the best car posssible. Modern Lamborghinis are made following directives from German suits on how a Lamborghini is supposed to be. Not the same thing. Same goes for Aston Martin and Bentley. The new Lotus isn't a Lotus either.
@@LarsAgerbk Could i get your number? In case i'm unsure about something. I'm sure you, as director of "is it?", can decide for the rest of the world.
Don’t compare to Harry’s please. 😅
@@LarsAgerbk 😂 when was any Lamborghini anything close to “the best car possible“?
@@SenszR back in the day when Lamborghinis were Lamborghinis. Atleast in the minds of the Lamborghini folks that made the Lamborghinis. Not the Lamborghinis we have today. Those are made by Suits in VW group who make Lamborghinis as Lamborghini-esque as possible -as opposed to the best cars ever(subjectively speaking).
Comprende?
@21:00 The initial acceleration is my biggest issue with that era of lambos. I have a Gallardo Superleggera LP 570-4. It has that same annoying issue.
Early manual murci, not as expensive as an lp640 and better looking imo, THE supercar for me as a kid
You know you are destined to buy a 2nd gen NSX, that market of content on a NSX is fully up for grabs James, nobody is doing it, take a leap of faith, you know that car in a long term will blow everyone’s expectations ;)
I've been hoping one of the popular youtubers buys an NSX for quite a while. It's a gaping hole in the algorithm.
I think James pointed out the issue of owning the NC NSX on his review, in that there were only 2 Honda dealers who can deal with NSX.
And they're both in London. Which is not practical. The car itself is great.
I really enjoy the way you emotionally nerd out on cars- very relatable despite the cars I’ve experienced being a fraction of the value , namely fast Saabs and a Renault Clio rs.
Fast Saabs are the best bro.
Being around one I’ve found they’re a car you learn to love. Strange sentiment given the price and V12 flagship history, i know. As you said, James, you’d expect to be overwhelmed by visceral fizz from the moment you fall inside (ingress and egress isn’t the most graceful experience🤣). But it doesn’t come straight away. Gearbox is awkward. The engine feels gutless at lower RPM. Feels unusable at low speeds. Visibility is dire. The list goes on.
As you spend more time in-and-around the car however, you learn how it operates and become wise to its idiosyncrasies. It’s a car you truly have to “learn”. Once you’ve done that, you can appreciate it for what it is.
A guy from Lambo said you have to spend time with the car before you enjoy it. He wasn’t wrong. It isn’t a car you can jump into and employ learned behaviours from your typical Torque converters. It takes time.
Actually, once you’ve given it some time, it’s quite a usable daily. The gearbox isn’t as bad as you expect. It’s relatively practical. The engine is phenomenal! It urges you to explore its full rev-range. It rewards you with incredible flatulence on the overrun. The car I’ve been with had 4ws, which really shortens the wheelbase and makes the car feel agile.
It’s every bit the event you hope. After you’ve given it some time🤣
Thanks Jay. I also met a hero---an 80's Testa Rossa. It was fun for everyone everywhere I went. This is in Vancouver B.C. so went to the seawall and Kitts and Robson... But inevitably returned a couple hours later with sore arms and a wallet full of fines. The 80's should remain there I guess.
No power steering and heavy gearchange!
@@tumslucks9781 Bingo! I had borrowed a 348 the day earlier (it was new at the time) and even that was way more fun than the Testa Rossa. That lack of power steering can't be overstated in that heavy 80's car.
Aventadors have never been drivers cars. They are showstoppers, you pull up to car shows, cars and coffee or driving slowly in town making a lot of noise. It’s a car you drive to get people to look at you rather than something enjoying to drive but not saying it’s not fun to drive
Sort of a shame in that regard
They are cars built for rappers and football/basketball players to buy.
With the Aventador I think you have to hold the button in to manually deploy the active wing which I also really like. Personally prefer the look of the active unit in its up position to the wing on the SV
Very interesting video. Looking forward to what car you will get. Hopefully you get the try and make video on the early example. Keep up the good work.
Whilst it's not really at the same level as a Lambo, or even a Porsche, I do have a similar experience as a more upper working class guy.
As a major petrolhead, like we all are here, BMW was one of those marques that you always imagine to be excellent.
I found myself in the position to own one, a 2014 320d M-Sport Touring. Okay, not the most iconic of Bimmers, I know. But it's still RWD, it's still the M-Sport trim/suspension/etc. More than fast enough for every day driving.
Man, I couldn't connect with it. There was one single occasion where everything fell into place driving along a totally deserted A74 in East Scotland. Truely spectacular road, and the car rose to the occasion with such perfection.
But every day driving, even spirited driving around the local twisties/B roads it just didn't do it. It was too firm (not on run flats), the steering didn't seem to ever know whether it wanted to be vague or communicative, it was forever getting caught in the camber or track lines on the road. Passengers hated it.
Although, I will say, it was fantastic in slow, stop/start traffic on motorways.
I had it about 16months before I binned it off for another Golf GTD, and I have no regrets. For a similar 'type' of car, it just manages to find that balance between comfort and enjoyability with no compromise.
I've had a 2 series coupe since 2016 as my first BMW and my wife has a GTD, I've really gelled with the 2'er especially on B roads and find the GTD good but less engaging. Both are manual gearbox cars. I'd be interested to try an F series 3er to form my own opinion as it did get some negative reviews on the driving front with reviews of the new G series (which I have test driven) using phrases like 'a return to form'.
Don't regard yourself as a petrol head when you have a 2 litre diesel
@@Storm.Z.4u lmao, bless you.
I think stradman might be one of the few UA-camrs who owns an early Aventador, I want to say his car is a 2012. If you bought one you’d definitely be tapping an untapped market considering he just moves his cars around and revs them
Would ye try a 458? Seems a natural progression from the scud 🤔 love your videos btw. All the best from Ireland! 🇮🇪
As a business case for UA-cam and content creation, it's excellent. The car you tested sounds like a remap for engine and gearbox would resolve?
If you had bought this Aventador and say...super charged it? It would be exciting to see as a subscriber, what would it be like to responsibly modify and improve an early Aventador (something like Litchfield as a partner?)that could compete or surpass a current model. Of course the costs/reliability etc, related to this would be really interesting and bring a new dimension to your reviews. Thank you again Jay, for your honesty and a great channel 👍
How about a Noble? I can't recall a UA-camr that's done them and with you being a Brit it would go well together
Thanks Jay, really enjoyed this as per usual. Your experience reminds me of my experience with my first "supercar", an 08 e-gear Gallardo, couldn't get on with it...switched to a manual F360 and have enjoyed it 10x as much
I don't know much about the cars, too modern for my tastes, but I do like you honest reviews and especially you honestly explaining how you finance the cars and need them to help pay for themselves and the business logic behind it. This was a great story, thanks!
I had a similar experience to a way lesser extent. I test drove a facelift model Maserati GranTurismo a few months back. Beautiful design, sounded amazing when revving, and the stitching and leather felt world class. Getting in and really paying attention to the build quality, it felt like a Chrysler. Plastic fantastic. With the facelifted center screen, it felt a bit wrong, considering less than a foot to its right was a gauge cluster from the mid 2000s. Not that I have a problem with the gauges, but that screen felt aftermarket and wrong. Out on the road, it was not the smoothest riding thing, but I figured its whatever. Hopped on the highway, was super excited. Ringing it out, it felt slower than my 335i. The exhaust note inside the car wasn't what I was expecting and I felt like there was a lot left to be desired. Even though its praised for its Ferrari engine and Italian quirkiness, I felt like it was similar to what you said where people outside enjoyed the car more than the people driving it. Still, the idea of it being a "Maserati" got into my head. It was priced to steal so I tried justifying it to myself until my insurance tried to scam me with a $15k dollar per year coverage payment, so I said no thanks! Funny to think the scam insurance industry actually benefitted me for once.
If you care about the cars, a garage for them is the best investment. Don't leave them on a driveway, no matter how cool they look!!!!!
Great format presentation in lunchtime break. Thank you.
I love your vlog type posts where i can just stick it on as I start work and click through my emails. I do like the "main feature" reviews too of course. Keep up the good work!
I drove a first generation Aventador roadster, got it for a few days with the girlfriend and oh my word did you nail the way that it drove! However, I liked that about it, you couldn't have a friend who wasn't into cars drive it, they wouldn't know what to do. Girlfriend who was a decent driver (no curb rash on her daily) couldn't figure it out and was overwhelmed with the car. I liked that, I felt like I was the only one who knew how to drive it properly and could only let my friends who knew what they were doing take it out for a spin. Car needs to be driven hard to work but idk if I would want to own one. Great video, keep it up!
3:39 when the auto generated subtitles say "i have driven a Horror can" LMAO
Love these.
Omg 1st. Never had before
Shirt?
The car, got to drive one on an experiance day recently
Good video. Nice and informative. Look forward to an AV review soon...
This reminded me of the "careful about meeting your Heroes".
The feeling of a car is VERY important. Although not at the level of a Lamborghini, my first "YES" car was an Alfa Romeo 164 V6 Lusso. Bits of plastic would fall off and even the gear stick came out in my hand at 70mph on the M25 once, but hearing that Busso V6 at high revs and all was forgiven. And I can confirm that I never drove it from Leeds to Tunbridge Wells, a journey of 200 miles, in under two hours, as that would have been very wrong.
I believe it was Rich Porter who said "the best way to enjoy an Aventador is from another car"
Bigeye scooby wrx, bearing in mind I was driving and 205xs, yes it was quicker and made that noise but it felt so leaden after the 205, it took so long to get going. I much preferred the 205 seats and overall driving position. The steering was to light and had no feel, the ride was dreadful and as for throttle adjustability forget it at road speeds. It only had 12000 miles and compared to my 50000m 205 I thought it would be next step in the performance car world and a big step up, boy was I disappointed and it taught me a big lesson in what I was looking for in cars
He is a real reviewer, like reviewers of top academic journals. These reviews will inevitably make the next generation cars better! Surprising thing is that he has done it in a such perfect way with his name and face open.
I do not understand how James doesn't have more subscribers, tell your friends people, he deserves a lot more.
I have a solution, if you like the Aventador but concerned that people outside are enjoying more than in, get the ROADSTER 😎
The Aventador is not a car. It is an EVENT.
Strong shirt game on this one Mr Martin! 👌🏻
Excellent content as always 👍🏻
Great story told well, heard others say the same. I have sat in one a revved it to 6k rpm, I can confirm it’s like thunder, loudest car I’ve ever heard.
9:07 _they still wow, they still impress_
Sorry, was there a car in that picture? I was busy reading about how Marcus Agrippa made that stunning example of classical architecture a couple of millenia ago... ;oP
i'll tell you what JayEmm, a Focus ST170 is very different to everything else you own, and they are: reliable, cheap, fun, good looking and come with a sweet 6 speed manual.
And also comes as an estate.
Interesting, I was an SV on Saturday in the Midlands, it was a yellow cabrio (or open top). No noise, but it was wide, ie 200 mm wider than my Ferrari California. He couldn't park the car in a normal parking spot. Definitely a car to stay away from.
Great commentary, so I have driven one for 3 laps and enjoyed it! Regarding test drives, so too a Panamera out a few times and finally bought a panamera sport turismo ehybrid and its better than expected and better than even the test drives!! Absolute weapon of a car!
Sounds like you are circling back towards a McLaren then mate, it might be destiny biting you in the ass haha. Either that or the new lotus if you can wait the 2 years to get your hands on one.
What else is there? Maybe a Ford GT or an NSX.. maybe an Alfa 4C?
love the channel Jay for exactly these kind of videos... honest and passionate about cars. such a shame the aventadore doesn't sparkle. a super car should grab you every time you get in. a trip to the shops should be an event. sadly and this car is the perfect example of it most super cars now are designed with passion to look utterly beautiful but engineered to within an inch of their lives. the result is beauty with no soul ... we forgive the foibles of the older super cars because they have a character that makes every trip special
Is the Aventedor capable of "re-programming"? Those engine "mode" sound as though they need looking at and matching as you described? (upshifts and downshifts) If the ECU's and gearbox software are "hackable" then maybe you could be involved in a custom "remapping" of those pieces of software? I'm sure there are race teams based in the UK that could diagnose and correct these issues for you, and it MIGHT be a very interesting video?
Mr JayEmm, with the ISR you need to treat it like a manual ie take foot off gas when shifting up and it will be smooth, well as smooth as the driver knows how to be just like a manual. You need an Aventador S. it’s the complete package.
Hi James-loved hearing your thoughts on the aventador. I have bought my 2013 one about 8 months ago, I was much like you after I test drove it, left feeling not in love with it-I also did not think it was very fast? I had an r8 V10 plus gen 1 at the time and I though the aventador should be soo much faster! I even spoke to Ricky from REPeformance, and he said that they are fast, but Mabey you just think they should be madder than they are. I drive my r8 back and though that the aventador was not what I though, but there was something telling me that it is my dream car, and we did buy it! A thing which made a big difference was to put new air filters in her! Another story there of how I found out ect! But we have done plenty of miles in her now and it’s just a joy to use and drive, and the more I drive it the better I think she gets. Thanks James.
Craig
Jay i don't know how realistic my request will sound, but this video some how reminded me of a very distant car from the aventador's segment. The car i mean is the audi sq5 b8.5 which is the predecessor of the sq5 you have already reviewed. Since this gen of the sq5 is so poorly covered on the internet, i wanted to ask if you could possibly review one, since in my opionion there is no body better than you at covering these under dogs.
As someone else mentioned a Noble M600 would be nice, even just getting your hands on one for a single video.
Probably way too rare … Looks at least can compete with an Aventador.
this is so incredibly insightful. I have always known about the german built quality (currently own performante and r8, they are identifcal), always loved the old italian interiors (but that requires a lot of love) but in modern lambos it's really just childish and cheap (and that's ok, that's the appeal in its own way), but the shifting and sound experience you shared is critical. I happen to be shopping for an early car right now, because i share the exact same reason to get it...a hero car that i never dare to own until after having half a dozen drivers' supercars. I have never sat in one, but i dont plan to before buying, maybe i am afraid it will disappoint and i will end up not buying one and missing out the experience haha. Great to know the car rides well (i was afraid of the rumored bouncy suspension), passive system means one less thing to break (a plus $$) and the lackluster sound from the inside (that's why i am looking at straight piped screaming cars. Perhaps the biggest diff in perf and r8 is the sound deadening, so much quieter in the cabin even tho they sound equally glorious from the outside. AV might have that same problem since it's an exotic GT)
Great haircut man, you look far younger without that mop you had before.. Great story, thanks for sharing..
How Gay do you sound!
This is about cars, not a pick up joint.
Great video James. Here's a suggestion for you. Get your shekels out, head to an importer and put down a deposit on a Corvette Z06. Two boots (cameras & clothes), 670bhp mid-engined NA V8. In person they are really quite striking and seem to be well built for a change.
So what do you class the Mercedes SLR Mclaren 722, Lexus LFA, Ferrari 599 GTO, Ferrari F12 TDF, Ferarri 812 SF, C7 Corvette ZR1, Mercedes AMG GTR, Mercedes SLS Black Series, Aston Martin one-77, Dodge Viper and Nissan R35 Nismo GTR as then? Because none of those cars are Grand Tourers and none of them are Sports Cars. So what would you categorise them as?
Great video. Got me thinking that you should always properly test your dream car before buying one and get some perspective one the qualities before you commit to buy.
Keep these great videos coming. 😊
A car is a supercar when I can recognize it at first glance even though the thumbnail is blurred :)
If you drove it for 20 minutes on the test drive, you probably did a years average mileage. There is a reason you normally only got a 2 minute test drive. 😂 Just come back from a Ring track day. 911’s smashing out 50 laps in a day, interspersed with fuel stops and a butty stop. No Lambo’s or Ferrari’s anywhere near the place. Remember James, they’re not made to be used, they’re made to be looked at.
Brilliant episode
So what do you class the Mercedes SLR Mclaren 722, Lexus LFA, Ferrari 599 GTO, Ferrari F12 TDF, Ferrari 812 SF, C7 Corvette ZR1, Mercedes AMG GTR, Mercedes SLS Black Series, Dodge Viper, Aston Martin one-77 and R35 Nismo GTR as then? Clearly none of these cars are Grand Tourers and clearly none of them are Sports Cars either. So I'm interested as to how you categorise them.
Didn't know you sold the scud...gutted, that was the best car you owned
Hi Jay, maybe try a convertible to bring some of that theatre into to cabin. Also if u don’t go for a Lamborghini maybe a mclaren of some kind, Amg merc content is also something missing from your channel, (hope you read this )
James, just to say having watched a lot of your videos I’d sooner watch you than Top Gear.
I’ve been a 911 fan since I was 6 years old, the 930 Turbo was my poster car as a kid born in the 70’s. I finally got to drive a 996 Turbo tiptronic a few years ago during a super car drivers day I’d bought for my wife (she drove a Vantage). The performance and handling were just as I heard, but the gearbox was really off putting. I’m not sure if it was just from over use, but the changes felt ragged and abrupt. Fortunately, it didn’t ruin the experience for me and I’m still happy I got to drive one of my favourite cars.
Another nice video, keep em coming 👍🏾
911 Tiptronics are never the best gearbox, despite what their fans say. A manual transforms those cars
@@JayEmmOnCars yes, I can imagine. Aiming to drive one as soon as I can.
Great insight. Many thanks for sharing. …
Some channels you can reliably hot like before the commercial starts.
Top stuff James 👌
Exactly the same when i drove the gallardo. Felt cheap to the touch inside and had more fun in a gtr
Try an early 6.2l manual murci!
For me my let down was the Integra DC2R.
Everyone raves about them now but there were reasons they got so deprecated in the first place
Out of curiosity, how come the DC2R was a letdown for you?
@@GeOzAlien probably because I had it as a daily. This was in 2016 so outside of the US they weren't really hyped. I bought it for like $3500 USD equivalent and it was mostly okay but starting to show signs of its age at 250,000kms. Drove well but was just uncomfortable. Like an hour would be enough to get quite sore.
Pretty much its just a very compromised car. It's a bad daily but good weekend car.
Handles well but almost felt too sharp for the road. Like I push my cars hard and I didn't really have the same confidence to push in it. Maybe it's just that knife edge feel. It also felt very serious and I think I prefer cars that are a bit more lighthearted - Like the Del Sol and MX5.
It's hard to explain but it's just a car. It's set up well and even though it's firm it Handles bumps better than most performance cars. It's an experience but the rawness does get tiring as a daily. I also preferred the VTEC in the B16 which felt a little more subtle. The diff and power in the ITR did give it substantial torque steer as it crosses over into VTEC.
The other thing I realised was that it was almost too capable for me to have fun in on the road. Like it was too easy to chase down other people going for it in the mountains. So yeah for my driving I realised that as a driver I just prefer slower slightly more forgiving cars that you can beat on harder in public roads. Like it' funner to drive slow cars at like 95% than it is to do 70% in an Integra
I don't know if that makes sense given how things are now. I just know for me I had more fun in a modified Mazda2 Sport than I did in the DC2R
@@christopherjohnston6343 That makes sense. Even though it is one of my favourite FF cars, it is a bit of a hardcore thing to live with. I'd imagine the USDM Acura Integra Type R's were a bit less hardcore.
Funnily enough, I own a Mazda 2 Genki (the Australian Mazda 2 Sport) and it has been everything I ever wanted in a first car! I did wish they made a proper hot hatch variant and I hope a Mazda 2 does appear on James' channel someday. :)
@@GeOzAlien yeah the NZ spec sport is identical to the Genki AFAIK. Slow but fast enough to keep up with MX5s. Handling also reminded me a little bit of the EG Civic too. Was very capable of upsetting much faster cars on a twisty road though was happy for DSC on mine since its set up from factory a little twitchy.
@@christopherjohnston6343 Nice! My 2 doesn't have any driver aids, haha. XD Interesting to see that you can have much fun in a Mazda 2 even compared to one of my favourite FF cars: the DC2 (and the EG Civic too; I do love my Hondas). What mods were done to your Mazda 2?
I had a similar (albeit you are likely not to agree with me) experience with the F-Type V8. To be clear I own a V6S roadster (from new) and was leant a V8R coupe as a courtesy car during a service one year.
Now I know, you're not a fan of the V6, and the viewers are likely to slaughter me for saying this - but I was really truly disappointed with the V8R experience. For nearly 30k more, I was expecting to experience everything I loved about my car, but just "More" of it. I was really shocked to drive it and it to feel so much worse.
-The front end felt really heaving in tighter corners.
-It had difficulty putting the power down onto the road.
-It didn't feel at all balanced.
-The noise was just unbearable, even with all the dynamics and sports exhaust on normal. Just sounded like it was backfiring all of the time.
-There was no notable improvement than you'd expect an additional 30k (which, was like... what... a 40% increase in price over my V6S).
I came to the conclusion that if I wanted more from an F-type, I would be best off making some performance tweaks to my current car rather than looking to trade up.
I test drove both a V6S and V8 not long after the F Type was launched and I much preferred the V6S. I thought the engine sounded better, the performance difference was barely noticeable and the suspension setup was a much better compromise between flat cornering and ride comfort. Basically, Jays got it all wrong then!
It was like the time I drove a Audi TT (The full beans 3.2 version). The owner (a friend of mine) says "don't thrash it" I say "yeah no worries" and bang it off the rev limiter through 1-3rd. I don't know if it was the 4x4 or what but..... Utterly dull... Yes it was quick, but give me my ST150 Fiesta every time for fun on the 0-60 pull. Such a shame, because I believe its one of the most beautiful cars of this century and has aged very well. Now seriously cheap, when you can pick up one of the smaller engine ones for a grand. I might reconsider my poor first drive.
I recall that Evo was very lukewarm about the early Avetadors
Great video, interesting story, I do hope you get to test another Aventador.
Funny cars these. A friend owned one for a few years. Full straight through system and it sounded like the end of the world (in a good way)… however… it’s massive to drive, somehow doesn’t feel ‘that quick’ as ridiculous as it is to say. The only time I got any sensation of speed was from say 120onwards at full chat (on a private runway in Madagascar). The brakes weren’t any good either. Seems to be a unenjoyable delay between gear changes from my experience even in corsa and even when revving it out. It’s very flat between changes.
They’re definitely NOT a drivers car. Saying that though, I wouldn’t class any of the newer lambos as one either (that I’ve driven). I guess you can say that about a lot of modern cars though.
Plus everyone that owns one seems to spend their evenings having rev battles outside of Harrods 😅 I couldn’t deal with the lambo stigma
Interesting that you mention your personal cars need to make business sense. Would you be able to elaborate at some point on how you make those calculations and the rationale? Would seem to me that your channel's main area is in the driving seat of other people's cars that you have access to. The personal fleet doesn't seem to get too much attention or priority. Thanks!
Exactly my thoughts. I didn't even know that he sold that Scuderia 430
Story Time is so much fun!
Not the same, but I drove a Gallardo once, after shortly having the opportunity to drive a 360. Lambo felt heavy, slow, horrible gearshifts and didn't go around corners at all like I expected. Walked away disappointed.
Jay if you were in the market for a used BMW and had the choice of a F30 320d ed, 320d, 325d, 330d. Which engine choice would you opt for and is pro nav worth it
All car journalists say the aventador s is a huge step up with respect to the normal aventador. Much quicker feeling
You should buy cars based on what you personally want, it doesn't matter if other youtubers own them or they are already a heavily spoken of car.
At the end of the day the subscribers are here today for YOU and your opinions on what makes cars good and bad, if other people did it better you wouldn't be here on youtube today
Not a fan of the Aventador - it's just a peacock car. That said, I think the new Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 looks STUNNING!
I’m sure DDE’s SVJ will work for you 😂
I suppose that's the curse of getting to drive so many amazing cars and having such a wide comparison base.
I test rode a Ducati Diavel. It was Fekkin rapid, and cornered very well considering it’s dimensions are not traditional for that performance.
My dad brought home a lotus Carlton once when I were a boy. I still have the model car that the proud owner never received with their purchase. Still boxed, lovely.😂😜. Oh and he had as his company car an opel manta gt/e. It was tuned to near rally spec, sounded like a spitfire and had those huge white rear window slats, to match the massive spoiler. And flared arches. I got taken to school in that, you can imagine the reaction at an all boys school yeah? I bet you don’t even read this Jay 😂. I hope you do, I went to some trouble for you here.
JAY SEES ALL
Sorry must have missed it but why is the scud gone so soon?
James, did I miss it, what's the year of the Aventador you're talking about?
Why did you sell the 430 James? Did you do a vid on why? Cheers, rich
Check my latest fleet update video
I have no idea of the price brackets to compare the two but how would an LFA compare?
An LFA is more than double
I to this day maintain that penny for penny, pound for pound a Mclaren at any price point smashes the competition for drivers feel, handling and outright speed.
Now I want to know why you got rid of the 430 Scuderia!
Have a look through his video catalogue, there's a video in there explaining it. Long story short, it had a few niggles that the dealership just couldn't seem to track down and resolve. Given the calibre of car, and the money involved, James understandably didn't want to put up with it and the dealership bought it back off it for the price he effectively paid.
Correct - they had about five attempts at fixing the suspension, last one took two months and the fix lasted five days - so they agreed to take it back as it wasn't doing anyone any good
@@JayEmmOnCars I don't remember the video where you said that you actually sold it? This is the first time I've heard about it. Or I haven't been paying attention?
@@Tomislav_B. It was in a fleet update video, my most recent one
@@JayEmmOnCars Ah right - I think I watched that video (and forgot I had). They managed to fix the car (or at least advertised it as sorted) shortly after they'd taken it back, if I'm not mistaken.
Sir you have outdone yourself with that shirt
I personally would love to see you own a Lotus Exige MK1 with a powerful engine swap
718 Spyder? Not necessarily a “super car,” but as good or better in many ways. And certainly looks the part.
430 Scud a supercar? Do you reckon the GT4RS to be a supercar also then? Similar power and speed and engine in the middle.
Nope GT4 RS is not.
Couple of reasons why - GT4 is still a Cayman, they're fairly common - even if the RS is not. Same logic is why a 911 Turbo is not a supercar.
Also, 430 is from a long time a go - the power outputs were suitable for a supercar then. Once a car is a supercar, it's always a supercar. You wouldn't say a Countach isn't a supercar because its "only" 400hp
No bull on a bull. Thanks James.
I Dooooo hope some problem was with that particular car) somebody, just give James a couple of decent early Aventadors which will impress him and in return we all might be soon enjoying his ownership stories !
Good haircut. Looking good dude.
This is such a shame. I’m a little worried that quite a few cars as idols will turn out slightly disappointing. I need to experience a few more
that's a shame - a matte yellow Lambo would go with that shirt perfectly 😆😆😆😆👍
