As much as I appreciate the engine itself, quite possibly one of the absolutely greatest ones I personally think this has noting on Lamborghini's V12 or that Mercedes V12 in Zondas. Like really no contest sound-wise.
@@dash3dot this 812 has OPF filter. Generally, people think Ferrari V12s sound better than Lamborghini V12s. Just look at how people react to the 812 with straight pipes vs Aventador....812 sounds better than the Aventador. Stock it’s not louder, but it sounds better.

There is way more substance in Lamborghini V12 sound, it's heavier (I don't mean louder), denser with way more mechanical rawness in it. Ferrari sounds so polished, too polite. Lamborghini and Pagani have quite similar sound, and You aint gonna convince anyone that 812 or any other modern V12 Ferrari sounds better than a Zonda.
"But Tesla Model S Plaid will leave it for dead in straight line" The older I get the less I care about 0-60 or 1/4-mile figure. I still do care about lap-times in a way, but if the car wheezes like a Dyson, I might as well get a bus.
Missing all the exterior carbon.... I instantly like it. Can’t stand the current fad for having cars like this dripping in unnecessary carbon. Simply not needed! This is spot on 👍

I have an 812 GTS on order and have been scouring every 812 GTS review I could find to pass the time, this one was by far the most in depth and offered many viewpoints never mentioned anywhere else. When you are discussing cars with someone and they tell you that a gt2rs is faster, that's when you know they've totally missed the point. I've always been a bit more fond of the f12, but the 812 is spectacular and with ferrari tailoring services for ultra wealthy customers the specs are amazing. What a machine, in a world full of dull electrics, we will ask ourselves how this masterpiece was possible in 2021. I've also watched many videos about the car, but yours is always on different league 😌
Always these annoying trench fights (on literally EVERY topic on UA-cam). Can we please commit on the fact that both these cars are very, very fast but do it in a completely different manner. Not one is „better“ than the other. They’re both great in their very own way!
There's just something special about these V12 Ferraris, and I don't mean the sound. They have a certain presence in the eye of the beholder, and a bit of danger on the road like you know it from cars of the 90s. Even as a Vette guy I'd kill to sit in one of these. My personal favorite would be the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. It's the last car designed by Pininfarina after all. And a bit louder than this ;)

The Lamborghini 60° V12 is next, in terms of longevity and history, having powered legendary cars such as the Miura, Countach, Diablo and Murciélago. The BMW M70 V12 as well. Appearing in the McLaren F1. A Le Mans GT1, BPR GT1 and JGTC GT500 overall championship and race winning powerplant.

They are quite simply the most sublime cars you can buy. I’ve driven my dads and have gotten somewhat familiar with it. The biggest flaw, I would say, is that it’s too fast, too glorious, too magnificent for 99% of the roads and I’m never able to quite relax in it. But when you do get to a nice road, the experience is unmatched
Ferrari has always been the best at engineering their engines whether it's their NA V12s or V8s to get the most power out of them without supercharger or turbocharger.
Jay I could not help but smile when we think heated seats are standard equipment. This car is on my list to buy, I am just short $500,000! Another great video mate.
I was at the Ferrari Owners event on Saturday and test drove an F8, while subject of another video, it did what this car did, and it was awesome. With little accelerator pedal movement, the car rocketed from 30 - 60 mph. And the 812 sounds really awesome !!
Great review James. For all that read this pay attention to this ...seldom do these you tubers really get beyond the zoom call specs they get from the manufacturers. James get it’s better than everyone else.
Definitely these 812s will go down in the history books of the last of the beautiful front engine sports cars. The competizion model in the coupe model is absolutely exquisite. Aston Martin has done the db12 and Vantage 12 with it's wider and meaner look than the regular Vantage.
Thank you for always doing a great job on your reports. I love your candor and your down to earth reporting, especially on a supercar like the 812. I'm on the hunt for an 812 Superfast and watched this video a few times to validate that it is the car I want. I trust your reports because they are a for regular guys like me who love fast cars and enjoy them on the road, not necessarily on the track. I check with Chris Harris when I want to see what a car can do at its limits. Thank you for a civilized, real life review of the 812.

Excellent review. I especially appreciated the comments on daily driving and the comparison with other Ferraris. I like to use such cars for medium and long distance travelling avoiding dense traffic as much as I can, on B roads, too (Europe)

I can't begin to imagine what 800 bhp is like. My car is 90 bhp tops and being 17 years old now has probably lost a quarter of those horses. Supercars is a world i will never know, but i still enjoy the videos.

What a beast...it's like the Italian version of a Lexus LFA. Super high revvy engine, corners like a house fly and has loads of trick bits to make it go fast and look good.

Particulate filter or not, that V12 plays a symphony like nothing else. The best sounding car engine in the world? Probably. Stunning.
I think the best bit is on a full-bore upshift where it digs in and howls; reminds me of an old Le Mans car...
