- In today's video I am driving what might be the last ever pure, naturally aspirated series production V12 Ferrari - and it's a convertible!
This is the mighty 812 GTS. 6.5L of displacement, 9,000rpm redline and an electrically folding hard top - could this be a recipe for a car good enough to displace the mighty F355 as my favourite car of all time?

I will keep saying it. This man is seriously underrated more people should watch him. Very high quality videos and he is very genuine on his opinion on cars. Keep it up!!!
I say it plenty too. Then you always get the d1cks who say oh no a he's terrible impersonation of Clarkson. I've given up rising to it.
I agree, and there's a decent amount of "everyman" motors he reviews as well. He's also gotten me more interested in Ferrari's and the other high end weapons that I always found boring because there's no chance of owning one. Also the scripting is top notch. I'm glad that DriveTribe thing never worked out. This is way better.
I couldn't agree more. I just found his channel and I loved this video. Will definitely check out more of his stuff.
Took me a long time to warm to him, but he’s got better and better. I don’t always agree with his opinions, but I respect him all the more for not towing the line.
He is good, but I wish reviewers would stop telling people the top speed of these cars. Better off to know 0-100mph time.
The sound of a naturally aspirated Ferrari v12 is to die for
As much as I appreciate the engine itself, quite possibly one of the absolutely greatest ones I personally think this has noting on Lamborghini's V12 or that Mercedes V12 in Zondas. Like really no contest sound-wise.
@@dash3dot agreed , and I hate the styling of the 812 and every new ferrari for that matter .
@@paulthomson9014 I agree. They are sacrificing looks for aerodynamics. I think that is completely pointless in a road car.
@@dash3dot this 812 has OPF filter. Generally, people think Ferrari V12s sound better than Lamborghini V12s. Just look at how people react to the 812 with straight pipes vs Aventador....812 sounds better than the Aventador. Stock it’s not louder, but it sounds better.
@@mikemoggerson6651 I don't know what people say that. It just doesn't. There is way more substance in Lamborghini V12 sound, it's heavier (I don't mean louder), denser with way more mechanical rawness in it. Ferrari sounds so polished, too polite. Lamborghini and Pagani have quite similar sound, and You aint gonna convince anyone that 812 or any other modern V12 Ferrari sounds better than a Zonda.
That first minute is something no electric car can ever give you.

The older I get the less I care about 0-60 or 1/4-mile figure. I still do care about lap-times in a way, but if the car wheezes like a Dyson, I might as well get a bus.
When the auto subtitles on the thumbnail for a v12 setting off are “music applause” it’s got to be good.

Missing all the exterior carbon.... I instantly like it. Can’t stand the current fad for having cars like this dripping in unnecessary carbon. Simply not needed! This is spot on 👍

812 is my dream car, if I could spec one I would skip all the carbon bits :') Can't stand carbon these days

If I hired someone and paid them top dollar to do a review of this car, this is the product I would expect in return. It was thorough, informative, honest and entertaining. Excellent.
The more reviews I watch the more I respect James opinions. Too many reviews are just regurgitation of the marketing materials and general consensus of mainstream opinions.
I have an 812 GTS on order and have been scouring every 812 GTS review I could find to pass the time, this one was by far the most in depth and offered many viewpoints never mentioned anywhere else. Keep up the great work!
That car sound epic, must be one of the best sounding cars within the last ten years.
Sometimes a car reviewer “just reviews cars”. This car however has actually MOVED James. It is clear you really appreciated this car and just loved it. That is what life is all about. Well done, Sir.

I was about to comment exactly that. This car is a perfect example of what a Ferrarri is.
A natural successor to the legendary and historic Colombo naturally aspirated V12 engines, placed at the aft of the front axel GT cars of the 250, 275, 330 four cam and 365 series of cars. The very fabric that makes Ferrari so special and without equal in that market segment.
No one does a v12 quite like Ferrari

@@BiraDaniele AMG 7.3 is great engine and Zonda's are amazing modern day performance cars. But you're dismissing a rich history of more successful and iconic V12's. The Ferrari Colombo V12 is at another level of accomplishments. Race winning pedigree and in the greatest and most expensive car series ever, the 250's. The Lamborghini 60° V12 is next, in terms of longevity and history, having powered legendary cars such as the Miura, Countach, Diablo and Murciélago. The BMW M70 V12 as well. Appearing in the McLaren F1. A Le Mans GT1, BPR GT1 and JGTC GT500 overall championship and race winning powerplant.
When you are discussing cars with someone and they tell you that a gt2rs is faster, that's when you know they've totally missed the point. I've always been a bit more fond of the f12, but the 812 is spectacular and with ferrari tailoring services for ultra wealthy customers the specs are amazing. What a machine, in a world full of dull electrics, we will ask ourselves how this masterpiece was possible in 2021. I've also watched many videos about the car, but yours is always on different league 😌
The gt2rs to be fair is bought by driving enthusiasts who know a bit about cars , the 812 is bought by people who want to be seen driving an 812
Always these annoying trench fights (on literally EVERY topic on UA-cam). Can we please commit on the fact that both these cars are very, very fast but do it in a completely different manner. Not one is „better“ than the other. They’re both great in their very own way!

There's just something special about these V12 Ferraris, and I don't mean the sound. They have a certain presence in the eye of the beholder, and a bit of danger on the road like you know it from cars of the 90s. Even as a Vette guy I'd kill to sit in one of these. My personal favorite would be the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. It's the last car designed by Pininfarina after all. And a bit louder than this ;)
Great car but $400K? C7 ZR1 is no where near as nice but its not $300K worse.

A magnificent car perfectly reviewed by this highly qualified gentleman.
Particulate filter or not, that V12 plays a symphony like nothing else. The best sounding car engine in the world? Probably. Stunning.
I think the best bit is on a full-bore upshift where it digs in and howls; reminds me of an old Le Mans car...

Ferrari has always been the best at engineering their engines whether it's their NA V12s or V8s to get the most power out of them without supercharger or turbocharger.

I'm on the hunt for an 812 Superfast and watched this video a few times to validate that it is the car I want. I trust your reports because they are a for regular guys like me who love fast cars and enjoy them on the road, not necessarily on the track. I check with Chris Harris when I want to see what a car can do at its limits. Thank you for a civilized, real life review of the 812.

They are quite simply the most sublime cars you can buy. I’ve driven my dads and have gotten somewhat familiar with it. The biggest flaw, I would say, is that it’s too fast, too glorious, too magnificent for 99% of the roads and I’m never able to quite relax in it. But when you do get to a nice road, the experience is unmatched
Excellent review. I especially appreciated the comments on daily driving and the comparison with other Ferraris. I like to use such cars for medium and long distance travelling avoiding dense traffic as much as I can, on B roads, too (Europe)

I was at the Ferrari Owners event on Saturday and test drove an F8, while subject of another video, it did what this car did, and it was awesome. With little accelerator pedal movement, the car rocketed from 30 - 60 mph. And the 812 sounds really awesome !!
