Welcome to Bacolod, I am a San Francisco Bay Area refugee now living here in Bacolod - my wife’s birthplace.
I’m sure you are aware of the famous MassKara Festival which is now happening here in Bacolod, with the main street dance happening, I believe on the 22nd of this month

Salamat! I've lived here for two years now and yes, getting into the Masskara spirit!

Also, I’m really glad that I was not the only one puzzled by the name of the 1300+ tree that’s called the Centennial tree. (maybe 1200 years ago somebody named it the century tree and it just stuck).😀
Also, if anyone plans to visit here in Bacolod, my USA Costco card has worked at every single place that takes credit cards even at a café on the way to Mount Canlaon. And because of the usage it has mounted up some seriously big cash rewards from Costco.

I've visited most of those places when I was a teen living in Bacolod some decades ago, back then all I see was just run-down old farming cities. I've been away from the Philippines for so long that I'm now looking through the eyes of an outsider through your videos and I could say that the places are beautiful, the heritage buildings, nature and all.

Having been to the Philippines so many times, your review was so incredibly accurate. I tried so hard to counter you and disagree but it was impossible. Every country has its issues and yes parts of the the Philippines are an island paradise but the people are more complex. Especially for older men like myself. The only thing I would add to this video is most of these women will have a foreign man in a long-distance relationship but will also have local men. Being in an LDR is already hard regardless of where the women are from but in Phil building trust is the most difficult thing.

Thank you for this video. My first trip to the Philippines is only in Manila, and it is now a month away. I keep an open mind on what to expect, but videos like this are a good heads up.

Yeah, Negros Island is further south, but it's a great place to consider exploring someday.

In any country, make sure to respect the culture and you'd be respected as well. When you get here in the Philippines, bear in mind that there'd be ugly and beautiful. Just be open-minded, enjoy your stay, relax, leave the negatives behind, but then be wise also. Don't overspend. If you are looking for a partner in life

Taal volcano always release columns of steam, on a regular basis sometimes daily. This is common occurence (have been here every week), no imminent eruption i think. The raising of alert is just a precaution. Locals in close proximity to volcano island were advised to move farther just in case.

It is difficult hike to get to Mt. Canlaon peak as well and local authorities don't allow people to go there.

Thank you for an alternate perspective. I have watched some of the other vloggers promoting life in the Philippines but had to question why it seemed too perfect with little drawback. Personally, I need to know the not so perfect aspects. To protect myself from scams, to understand the laws, to understand the risks. I also inquire about the risks in nature, whether typhoons, animals to be prepared as much as possible.

Taal has been active for years and yet its residents keep going back to their homes because their basic source of livelihood is tourism. They have nowhere else to go. Tourists flock to the area to capture the eruptions. I hope we don't get a huge one like that of Mt. Pinatubo which ashfall has reached even HK and other neighboring islands near the Phil. We are a resilient people. We manage to bounce back disaster after disaster because we have close family ties. The post-traumatic stress after each disaster is lessened because of this Filipino trait.

My parents and I have dealt with relatives in the Philippines and they did try to extract items from us - from money to material items to asking for payment for education (which was sometimes used for other things). There is some truth to what is mentioned in this video about Filipinos attempting to extract something from you. Even a foreigner who is considered far from wealthy, or even well-off, by the standards of his country has more than what your average Filipino can acquire and is a desirable target - especially to women who can use their feminine wiles on some unsuspecting male visiting the country.

Married my Filipina wife 42 years ago, brought her to the states, she wanted to work. When she saw the bills we had she opted not to send money home, even today she only sends money for emergencies, and not much. Was a great choice, I may have gotten lucky.
