    Best value for money 1/48 scale F15E out there, especially for Gulf War era. Lack of ordinance is a big detractor. I think there is a rebox with some bombs included these days.
    This is one of Revell's finest. At $18 to $25 USD, its a big win. It still looks good on my shelf years later.
    Great box art too, scud hunting!
    Im going to try some of your techniques on dry brushing and panel wash for cockpits going forward

    I think that the variable intake ramps are actually raised when powered down. This is not real life so take it with a grain of salt, but I fly the F-15E a lot in DCS, and part of the startup sequence is waiting for the intake ramps to drop once the jet is powered on and the switches for them are flipped. Being a virtual pilot and a model maker is pretty useful, as you have a fairly accurate virtual model you can view whenever! Also, thank you for posting another F-15E video! A few months ago, I found your Academy F-15E build video, and that was the video that convinced me to finally try building my own kits! After a first build, I am now working on that academy kit, and will be taking pointers from this video as well! Thanks for posting these and explaining everything with so much detail!

      Ahh, good to know about the intake ramps! Glad you decided to take the plunge in to model building! Thats exciting, and good luck on your current build!

    The 3D-printing of today is amazing, so detailed and sharp! Also seeing some commercial companies using 3D printing, such as Pilot Replicas and their seats for the SAAB 105.

    Nice build my friend. You said you did not know why the aircraft was not a semi gloss shine,well that's and easy one. If the aircraft is dedicated to air shows with a paint scheme like you done it is semi glossed. If it is a front line fighter doing and air show and goes back to base well it done in a flat due to it is easier to repaint. You have to strip the gloss shine on a hard or semi gloss in order the paint to stick. A flat just clean good and paint....😊😊😊😊

    I use pretty much all Vallejo Model Air and I agree with your statement of finding what works for you and Vallejo. I love the paint sets, but I find Vallejo to be subject to atmospheric conditions more so then say Tamiya paints. The paints work great once you find the happy spot.

    Hah, I also once spilled some extra thin, funnily enough also a Revell 1/48 jet, altho it was a Tornado in my case. Glad I'm not the only one. And it was over the underside of one of the horizontal stabilizers, pretty flat surface so it was an easy enough fix and only cost me some time for sanding and rescribing (and half the bottle of extra thin cement).

  • @HotelPapa100

    IIRC the turkey feathers created a lot of maintenence issues by jamming. It was not just about having to remove them for maintenance; they did not work properly.
    As for the intakes: I usually see those raised on parked aircraft. When the engines power up, the intakes slam down. It's pretty spectacular to see.

    wow, I love the F-15E Eagle, ESPECIALLY the heritage models They are absolutely beautiful!
    have you done a P-61 yet? if not I would love to see a video on that one
    question about panel washing, I have not done any models recently but I have always been intimidated by panel washing my aircraft, what are the step for me to do it? or like whats something that could help me.
    lastly hows the YF-23 Black Widow II coming along? meaning how far is it out on the schedule if you can share (lol ik ive pestered you about this a lot)

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  4 години тому

      I've done a few of the old Revell P-61 decades ago, but nothing recently. Its definitely one I'd like to do again though someday. As for the YF-23, I'm not sure yet. I've taken on a number of commissions this year and those will take priority, but I will attempt to fit it in when I can.

      @HammerheadModelMaking Hey, thanks, Hammer. I really appreciate it. I originally only planned on buying a resin 3d printer. But talking to the guys one night at our local bike night. Telling them of my plans. Within a few days later. 2 different friends brought me fdm printers. Now, in to both fdm and resin . And now I have too many. Lol. It doesn't take long to fill up a new room addition for my model building, with too many printers. Now, I'm trying to learn the rc aircraft hobby .

    • @JohnSmith-jj2yd
      @JohnSmith-jj2yd 12 годин тому

      Either the mid-late 90s Tamiya 1/48 kits (Bf109E, F4U Corsair etc), or the Hobbyboss 1/72 Easy Build kits are great starters, depending on your budget.
      They let you build up your skills on kits that practically fall together, and they're both quite affordable.

      Has to be a Spitfire Mk.I of course(unless you aren't a fan of them, it's just a really common starter model kit). But really just find something small(1/72 scale), maybe even some sort of starter set with paints\brushes. Try one of the new Airfix starter sets for something really simple if you don't mind ultra-simplified details, otherwise basically just get something small which won't cost a fortune in supplies to make.

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  4 години тому

      It looks like some people have already given you some good responses, I will just throw out one of my favorite kits, the Airfix 1/72 P-51D mustang. Its fairly inexpensive and quite fun to build

    This heritage scheme is a medley of topics. It doesn't depict any one plane at any moment In time. For example, the British callouts for the colors and the national insignia round star with yellow were NEVER used by the USAAF. But they were used by American pilots of the 4th Fighter Group who had volunteered to fly with the British before the American military officially entered the war. Also, the picture of the pilot on the inside of the vertical stabs is of Col. Donald Blakeslee who got the first kill in P-47 and who had the most time flying missions.

    • @septiccalling8341
      @septiccalling8341 7 годин тому

      I'm not completely certain but I think it was a hangover from when the RAF Eagle Squadrons and their aircraft transferred across to the USAAC 4th Fighter Group.....the insignia were, I believe, just 'starred' over.
