  • Welcome back to the vlog! This week we're back into the chronological timeline (and I promise I'm working on more regular uploads). In this episode we're getting ready for our next big cruise and I do my first ever cruise all alone from start to finish. I believe it's customary to call this SOLO FEMALE BOATING for the algorithm, but I don't think it counts if your co-captain is just inside having a nap. Still, I was pretty proud of how far I'd come considering just a few months ago I was a nervous wreck steering, even with supervision. Hope you've had a lovely weekend and see you next week!
    *** Tiny correction: in the video voiceover I say that our batteries were lead acid, they were actually AGM.

    One good thing about you posting six months later and me watching in the other hemisphere is I could hit pause and get an iced coffee, as you did. So nice while viewing on warm a summer evening!

    I needed some sunlight on a cold and dreary Upstate NY day. Glad you had a good experience with sheep, and they didn’t try the old sheep stampede on you again. Birds looking great, even the melancholy lock swan. You did great and Andrew must have faith in you to sleep through your journey. Matilda’s looking great. Please keep them coming, also your iPhone worked just fine. Thanks!!🙏

    I was beginning to think that you had forgotten about us and then, poof! There it was…finally a video. Loved every second on the water. Have to say you are becoming quite skilled at this whole boating process. By the way, I loved the goats. Can’t wait for the next one. Be well. Hi to Andrew and Matilda.

    I always look forward to seeing a new KA video show up on my feed. Speaking as a meteorologist, _never_ trust a forecast that says "zero percent chance" or "one hundred percent chance". Mother Nature just _loves_ to make a fool of forecasters who think they can make a prediction with absolute certainty. I learned that lesson the hard way! :smiley: Glad the rain held off for you on this occasion!

    So lovely to spend part of the day going back to summer. You did well with your solo cruise to Rugby and an iPhone. I like the idea of a boat, but solo is what always stops me. That, and I think I'd have to be on a long stretch of lock-free canal... up and down, up and down... never going through a lock. A completely impractical daydream! 😂

    Oh Kris Atomic you two make me laugh my ass off some days (which I very much need). I adore your sarcastic view of things and sarcasm has been sadly lost over the past few years. You’re top of my list at the end of a long workday AND I love the font/titles you use for your productions. Keep up the fabulous work and who knows maybe someday I’ll quit this shitty corporate job in Canada and see you on the Canals ✌️. Thanks again for all the laughs it really does wonders for me some nights. Say hi to Matilda for me too. She keeps her own counsel that cat 🐈 😊

    Well done on solo cruise. This vlog was still amazing visually, best editor and you have such an eye for detail, well done. Btw I brought a narrowboat recently, been onboard for just two weeks and I’m at braunston! Might be following in your footsteps up the Ashby. I’m actually terrified to go out on my own, my friend helped me cruise from whilton marina to braunston, what a trip we had, we had to moor in a pound and we left the gate open and I woke up and my world was at a dodgy angle, and braunston tunnel, omg! Wish me luck, I need it 😂

    • @krisatomic
      @krisatomic  4 місяці тому +2

      Omg you've done it! That's so exciting, I remember your first comment right at the beginning when you were planning it! Braunston Tunnel is a baptism of fire for your first trip omgggg. I promise it gets easier! Enjoy Braunston, make sure you go to the cafe boat for a breakfast. Genuinely so hyped for you with the boat, really hope you'll love it all. Please say hello if you see us one day!

      @@krisatomic I will! I’m somewhere between terrified and excited, I’ve painted a picture this week and hope to paint many more, and I’ve got several fantasy books I’ve written in the pipeline, I feel living this way will help me artistically. I saw that cafe the day I arrived but it’s been closed, I’ll go there before I leave if it’s open. I didn’t expect the tunnel would be sooooo long and sooooo cold 😂

    I love your videos ❤ One thing id like to know is how your cat gets along living on the boat, or indeed how you cope with her needs. I would love to live on a narrow boat but wouldn't want to be without my cats, and I fear they would make it tricky for me.

    • @krisatomic
      @krisatomic  4 місяці тому +1

      Ooh maybe I'll do a video from Matilda's POV one day. She gets on really well actually, she's always been an indoor princess so that's been fine. And she's a senior lady now, so she's quite happy having a snooze for much of the day. I think she thinks of the entire back half of the boat as "her" area and we're staff who get relegated to the staff quarters in the bow. The only problem is that she can wake us up meowing for food when she's feeling impatient 😽 if you have any specific questions, just ask! x

    • @rcheeks8963
      @rcheeks8963 4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for your reply. My cats are also elderly but two of them must be allowed out or I'm in trouble, so I'd be worried about us being in new places all the time. I expect it's not about having cats on a boat, but having the right cats. Matilda is adorable btw

    How delightful to see another video landing, a great bookend to the weekend and some new "techniques" on show to keep us on our toes. Love the split-screen and the choice of images selected. One initial question, will we see Roger in the next episode? - he might have a non speaking part like the Marcel Marceau of the waterways. The slow mo is always a treat working well with the soundtrack and then - a short pause while you make "heavy water" for the nuclear power plant that powers the boat.....or was that simply coffee dripping? - Interestingly you mention Jeff Bazos and, he is more aligned to you than you might think as you mentioned how long your craft is and he has just completed Koru which might be the worlds longest privately owned wind powered yacht - why did he not just call it Prime and be done with it? Anyhoo - I wanted to point out how good your PTC's are... you have a great relationship with the camera and you talk convincingly into it making the viewer feel you are talking directly to them. The pace of your commentary fits well with the edit and its great to see (and hear) your perspective on narrow boat life. Incidentally someone else who is a natural with the camera is John Rogers who makes videos about walks (mainly London but also wider). He mentions canal videos as some of his recreational viewing - check out his UA-cam channel - he uses music as well as you do and is so personable... like you and Andrew. One faux pas I think was mentioning the bridge at an angle and saying it was maybe made like that due to cars..if it's that brick bridge you went under my guess is it was built before cars were even invented. Mention of work for you and Andrew leads me to ask if you can include that a bit more in a future video? Just a snapshot of each of your working lives to understand the work/life/boat balance. Looking forward already to the next edit - keep well and keep dishing out those focus pulls!
