Yeah, I think the video is messed up. The description is advertising her album that came out in 2016, but it says the video was published ten years before that. Maybe they update the descriptions of these? That seems weird though...

On the radio, has an ear worm that has a rent free place in my head. Right next to Dixie flyer, Randy Newman and guitar gentle weeps, George Harrison, can hear a sleepy DJ at just about any point. Just a lot of the ear worms are jamming in there.

For me, this song is simply about us humans being subjects to society, feeling lost throughout our lives. This song celebrates that sense of confusion and how everything turns our into this story that the people in the future can look up to as something nostalgic but they can never fully understand and end up staring at us with a sense of familiarity...

I think the name is quite telling. "Us", to me, stands for "US", which is the first letters in "USA" and "USSR". Both have been described as dens of thieves by the other, and both of whose ideologies were considered contagious. They were both, in their times, seen as newfangled and blamed for almost everything ("They'll say it's all our fault"). The statue reference refers to both the statue of liberty and the edification, even deification, of the leaders of the Soviet Union. So I think she's singing about both the nation she was born in and the nation she chose.

    Lyrics
They made a statue of us
And then put it on a mountain top
Now tourists come and stare at us
    Blow bubbles with their gum
Take photographs of fun, have fun
They'll name a city after us
And later say it's all our fault
Then they'll give us a talking to
Then they'll give us a talking to
'Cause they've got years of experience
We're living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
We're living in a den of thieves
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious
We wear our scarves just like a noose
But not 'cause we want eternal sleep
And though our parts are slightly used
New ones are slave labor you can keep
We're living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
We're living in a den of thieves
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious
They made a statue of us
They made a statue of us
The tourists come and stare at us
    The sculptor's mama sends regards
They made a statue of us
They made a statue of us
Our noses have begun to rust
We're living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
We're living in a den of thieves
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious
    And it's contagious

This song is so catchy. Indeed. did you know? She was a refugee who fled her natural born country USSR. Something to think about when it comes to immigration. This song has a very deep meaning. us people , US , United States, den of Thieves , Statue of liberty , slave labor , ..... No wonder I see many people comment they do not understand the meaning of the song.

I used to listen to this song when I was 14 and I never understood the lyrics nor paid attention to it. Now I’m 2022 and the meaning is completely different. Not only do you discover new things as you get older, but your perception changes of what you’ve already discovered.

She is so beautiful in this video. And even more so in 2024. She is such an accomplished piano player and her voice is angelic. I love Regina! My family is Russian and Regina represents her roots and the Bronx (I lived in Astoria for years but she rocked NYC) so well. Got to see her in Boston years ago at the Orpheum and her future husband opened with Only Son! He was great! Such a good show
also the 2:09-2:20 sequence might be my favorite music video moment. So creative! Must have taken so long to film
Is 2:03 a Soviet Kitsch reference?? If so, how did I miss that for years??

This song captures, almost completely that feeling of simple, expansive feeling when you fall in love, with your S.O. with your friends, with all the animals on our planet, with the world and the universe. And its contagious; how can I not share that transcendent love and compassion for every living being when I feel it, I know it so well?
This is more than romantic relationships; this is the romance of being alive, the romantic notion of existing here, now, together.
