i have many doubts about all of that. And i have several examples, me included, of professionnals, MW students and others, that see our bottles with wines that just lost all freshness and complexity. I have a coravin, it helps me to taste blind many wines and that is very usefull. But i do not agree AT ALL on a wine that can be kept years after you took a first sip with the needle

I just wonder about the wine that after use is still in the needle, won´t it spoil the needle over time?

I always use a gentle stream of hot water to flush the system after every use, then purge the argon, and presto!

      There's a pin-thin cleaner for the needle. :)

I can't recommend this product highly enough. It has transformed my access to my cellar's wines. There are a few things of note, however:
    1. It's not cheap to operate. I think it comes out about $.70 per glass poured, if I recall my math. Personally, having access to my wines piecemeal makes it worth it.
    2. It's probably obvious but it won't work with Stelvin or glass closures, fake corks, or sparkling wine. Wax tops are fine in my experience.
    3. Air travel. You can travel with the device itself but the Argon cartridges can't travel with you because of TSA policy (they're pressurized).
As far as how many times you can use it per bottle... It looks like the answer is many times. I was recently at a winery that poured each taste using it and the only effect was occasional tiny bits of cork ending up in the bottle. I've never personally seen cork bits appear.

The cork bits in the bottle is called cork dust, you end up with the same thing if you use a cork screw.. Whatever is passing through the cork, a screw or Coravin needle will end up hitting little pockets of non dense cork (when you look at the side of a cork you can see this) and deposit the particles into the bottle. I love the Coravin also - it's changed the way I drink wine..

You are missing the point of the product. If you have a very high quality wine like Margaux, Petrus, Latour etc. and only want to take a single glass to test how it has aged, your only choice is using a Coravin. Otherwise you have to consume the entire $1000-$3000 bottle in one go. This is not meant for cheap or low end wines (and it cannot be used on them, as Coravin requires a natural cork to exist on the wine bottle, most low-mid range wines have synthetic or plastic corks, or even screw caps)

@@darkzerk7 seriously? Most wines in the ”old world” has natural cork. At least above 12 euros

@@Johanlob1 A lot of those are synthetics too but created to imitate the look and feel of natural cork. Coravin wouldn't work on them. But there are definitely tons of honorable producers in the 12-20€ range who also use natural.

makesme think of the wine fraudster that was given a jail term recently. Something like this would make it easy to inject an authentic bottle with fraudulent wine. This would be almost impossible to distinguish a fake bottle from the authentic wine.

It wouldn't be worth it, and how would you refill the empty bottle? I believe this is a one way system...
