On the one hand, he's sacrificing his finances for this video, and on the other hand he's making an upfront investment on a video that will make him that amount many times over in the long-run. I love Konstantin's videos, but let's remember that UA-camrs are running businesses, so essentially he's getting paid to drink a wine that most people will never get to experience in their lifetimes. Lucky guy!

Konstantin I was lucky enough in 98 to visit the chateau, I met Monsieur de Villaine, I got an invite via Clive Coates I used to own a bistro we sold a bit of DRC to the famous people and they allowed me to visit it was an amazing experience I went to the Chais and the cellar master ( I cannot recall his name) spoke no English we tasted all the wines, every drop left in the beautiful Riedel glasses was poured back into the casks it was an unreal moment but I have to tell you that day La Tache from the barrel was the best wine, plumper, he then opened 2 old bottles for me to taste they were so kind to me I will never forget that morning, walking through those red gates where nobody else gets a chance.........drink well keep the videos coming

    Amazing!
    No spittoon needed :)
I like that Jancis Robinson has her mid 90s wine programs on YT so there she interviews Lalou and talks with renowned importers about DRC's prestige in the mid 90s saying that "some of these bottles cost hundreds per bottle".
Little would they expect that it would be tens of thousands in the future :)

This was one of my favorite videos ever. I felt actually ur happiness there. My "wow moment" was last summer in north of Portugal when my uncle opened his refrigerator and asked me what I want to have. There were 3 bottles: one opened and 2 unopened. One was from douro, other from alentejo and the 3rd that my uncle had opened the day before, given by his brother in law and he didn't liked it, was a Jean Grivot Vosne-romanee 1997, I imediatly said that one, I spend the rest of a warm august day, helping my uncle finishing it under a ficus tree. Also, as we didn't have proper Pinot glasses, I improvised with gin tonic glasses😂.It was trully unexpected.

My very first deep impact wow wine- moment was a Vosne-Romanee Les Genevrieres 1989 Domaine Leroy. I bought it in a wine shop in Tübingen which was owned by the parents of a school friend of mine for 89 DM! In 1994 . I will never forget this vibration and this deep silkiness, at same time the wine was that shy and modest, not loud at all. Aromas of orange, woody earth, oriental spices, pine-needles. You swim in the sea and a barely perceptible current of great force carries you away. Literally power without weight. Thank you for that very nice video.

I’ve had the opportunity to taste many a great wine over the years. Most of those came through the courtesy of wine distributors, or through the generosity of oenophiles with much deeper pockets and extensive cellars than I could imagine or ever realize. It was a 1966 DRC La Tâche at 28 years old that a customer brought in to have with a special meal that he had arranged in advance to have the head chef prepare for him. It was Fettucine Alfredo. Simple enough for him to prepare, but what made it special was the shaved white truffle that the patron brought along with him to top the dish. I was the only food server with some knowledge and appreciation of wine, and so he poured a taste for me. It was ethereal. The finish lasted five minutes, and I could think of little else for days.

I’m not a professional but quite a experienced drinker, I visited winery Montecalvi in the Chianti Classico region. This was THE example of how the people behind the wine, make the wine. A light, fresh and fruity 100% Sangiovese which was almost like a nice northern Pinot noir/sparburgunder. Back home I cooked it and drank it around 15 Celsius. I had a lovely visit there and had a really nice time listening to the very well knowledged people explaining their methods. Absolutely not the best wine ever, at this point far from it, but a lovely experience with absolutely lovely wines. Hope they will keep doing what they’re doing.

My wow moments have always revolved around more than just the wine. Sipping a Sandemans 40 year tawny looking out over the river in Porto, or doing a premium tasting at St Supery in Napa with thier oldest employee who was a fan of the Dodgers since the Brooklyn days talking baseball while he poured so many tastings of amazing wines, only to be joined by a couple and the guy was a fraternity brother of mine. It's the special moments that a really good wine gets paired with that has set it apart for me. I am sure they aren't as special I hold them in my mind.

A ‘$10 wine’ has about , wait for it …
$1’s of wine content. A ‘$20’ bottle will deliver about ‘$10’s worth of wine in approximate terms; perhaps more depending on ‘overheads’ and ‘taxation’ in your home country.

There is no perfection, but moments like these are damn close. My first moment like this? When I first tasted a 2001 Montrachet Grand Cru, from Bouchard. I was in front of true greatness. The second one? When I popped the cork of a 1973 Montrachet (yes, again!), from Auguste Morey-Genelot. It was like being struck by lightning. I never encountered such precision and focus for a white wine more than 40 yrs old. But the chance of sharing that wine with some of my friends made the moment "more" perfect.

My wife and I honeymooned in France and got to meet Anne Gros and barrel tasted her Richebourg. We have 2015 in our cellar we plan on opening on our 10th anniversary in 2026. We will be a bit nervous opening it as well. The wine is currently valued around the $2000 range, and crazy to think we’re just going to drink it. When I tried DRC La Tache, the purity stood out, near flawless Not the best wine ever, but extremely memorable.

My favourite big-shot moment is either finally tasting Haut Brion Blanc after missing it for many years (its hard to find!) and just having a fresh 2014 vintage in 2017, I thought, eh at least it is the real deal but had okay expectations, but it wasn't aged nor a 100 pt vintage. Wine laughed at me .. and was AMAZING, like 98-99 point amazing, DEEP notes of "aged Riesling" that petrolium flavour, fat body, juicy, clear white Bx notes but heavy and concentrated and the almost empty glass smelled ETHEREAL!
Other big moments was a Latour 1900, orig cork and seal, B stand, freaking perfect. Tasted like an exceptional 1970 red Bx or so, no signs of being 118 yrs old at the time, just UNREAL.

I gather Domaine de Villaine is run by De Villaine's nephew, Pierre de Benoist and their wine style is mostly driven by Pierre which might help explaining why their wines cost so much less. That and the terroir, I'd think.

It was in 1998...I was in a small family restaurant in Rue de Provence called Chez Catherine (it has since moved on to new premises and is run by the children) and the husband of Catherine had an extensive cellar of great wines. To his credit, he never put huge mark-ups on the wines, just a bit of profit on what he paid for them. The place was always packed and I booked the restaurant first...then my business trip. I was with work colleagues and bought a bottle of 1988 Grand Echezeaux from Domaine Leroy for £100. What a steal! I never knew wine could taste like this and was additionally fortunate as all but one of my work colleagues wanted white instead of red. Pure heaven! So I can imagine what your experience must have been like with the La Tache. Good drinking Konstantin!

A couple of wow! moments for me: the first wine that got me into wine was 1992 Opus One. I was young and just out of college and didn't know that wine could taste so good. I was hooked! More recently, a bottle of 1947 Borgogno Riserva Barolo & a bottle of 1976 Villa Mt. Eden Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley). It's just astounding what great winemakers can make and how long their wines can last. Both still retained fruit and body with very elegant, balanced structure. Finally, 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay. This wine blew me away because I had no idea that Chardonnay could last so long with such delicious character and perfect balance.

Fantastic video, Thanks for sharing this with us. Heck, even I felt a bit touched, just by watching. :) For me, I have a few moments which were just fantastic. A couple of years ago I tried a bottle of 2013 Shafer One Point Five, absolutly stunning Napa Cab blend. It was magic, and since then I have bought alot of Shafer bottles. ALso, last summer I opened a bottle of Krug vintage 2000, which was absolutly fantastic as well. Now, those two one would probably know in advance were good. The biggest surprise to me was when I opened a bottle of 2004 Dom Perignon Rosé last year, which was near perfection. I did not see that one coming at all, to be so good and well balanced as it was. It sure is a fantastic little hobby we have, that's for sure!

Thanks Konstantin for sharing this tasting of your bottle of La Tâche. My wow wine experience was tasting a Château d'Yquem 1919, must have been in 2008 or 2009,. What was really amazing was the freshness it still had, the citrus and grapefruit notes. I just had the chance to be at the right place at right moment when staying with my friends who run a very nice hotel and restaurant in Scotland. I had more than once wonderful wine tastings when staying at their place.

Another great video. I've never spent more than 30 dollars on a bottle of wine but the wow moment for me was discovering a particular vintage of a Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin from California that tasted as good as I ever thought wine could taste. I bought all that the wine shop had in stock and nearly cried when I ran out of it. The following vintage of the same wine was less than impressive. Thanks for allowing us to experience this very special tasting with you.

Great video - totally enjoyable! As you asked for our special wine moments: One of mine just happened recently when I had a guided cellar tour through the cellars of the Palais Coburg in Vienna. They have a huge collection, and in every room we could blind-taste one wine. In the French cellar we got a Chateau Ausone 1981. It was fantastic: very elegant, subtle - not an "in your face"-wine, but something to explore. It wasn't the best wine I've ever tasted but to taste it in a fantastic cellar like the Palais Coburg's one made it really special. Plus: I got it right that it was from the right bank of Bordeaux. I just was off with my age estimation, putting the wine in the early 90s, but I'm really proud of myself to have been that close as I'm not good at blind tastings and I see myself still as a wine novice. So that was quite something for me. And to be there, to have that close call, to share this excellent wine with my wife in this fantastic setting made my day perfect.

What a great video! I'm never going to buy DRC, so this was really interesting. My wine moment came 20+ years ago when I was invited to an epic tasting in a cellar in Paris. The evening was all legendary Bordeaux reds, served with a Lebanese stew cooked on a camping stove. By the end of the night the host and cellar owner was in a great mood and unexpectedly produced a bottle of 1921 Chateau D'Yquem. Nobody else there cared at all, but I had never tasted Yquem and, when that treacle coloured liquid hit my taste buds, I was absolutely transported.

Great video! My Wow-moment concerning wine wasn’t long ago. I had a weekend with my two oldest friends - just us, without our wives or children, the first pure friend-time in years. After a few good bottles of wine one of my friends ordered a bottle of Roederer Cristal in the restaurant which was the most expensive bottle I ever had in my life. I had goosebumps while and shaking fingers drinking it and the opportunity to share this with my longtime friends was worth every penny. 😊😊😊

I commented about my premiere win experience on your video of tasting a bottle of Petrus, about 11 months ago. Rather than repeat myself, I direct you to the comment there. A similar DRC experience, not expected to happen, is at the top of my bucket list. Having said that, I never would have dreamed that my Petrus experience could ever happen, but it did.

I’m relatively new to wine (and relatively broke), but i would say a recent wow moment was eating leftovers from christmas dinner (especially a steak and porter pie) paired with a very affordable Georgian Saperavi.
The blackberry, redcurrant, black tea, charred cinnamon, and black pepper notes along with the long finish really made the whole meal a beautiful, meditative experience. The view from my window of the temperate rainforests of the PNW made it even more special imo

I have had the giant opportunity to attend a tasting of the full lineup of the Grands Crus from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including la Tâche, from Échézeaux to La Romanée-Conti, and also le Montrachet! I was absolutely impressed by the depth of La Tâche, it has got so much to offer. Thanks for sharing this moment with us. I am already a customer of iDealwine since a long time, and they do have a great selection of young and old vintages. Cheers

Fun and educational video, well done! 1985 JF Mugnier Musigny was my Burgundy Moment, an amazing, glorious, delicious epiphany. What is amazing in retrospect is that I tasted it in 1987, when it truly was an infant. And yet, it changed my wine drinking life forever. Cheers!

I can feel you so making this video !! For me DRC is the holy grail, and I too have the pictures at the Romanee Conti Vineyard. And I recognize the feeling, drinking that first bottle, about 1,5 year ago. I was working, smelling and looking at the bottle for minutes and minutes. And when I finally took a sip, a tear rolled down from my eyes. And that is quite unique for me, not so much into emotions. But this did it for me ! It was not the La Tache, but the Romanee St Vivant. Beautiful 😍😍. Is it perfect ? No, like you said, but the moment madeb it perfect !!

Regarding a great moment for me was some years ago when I decided to do my own wine for the fist time.
My father and mother helped me to select nd crush the grapes (nice time with my parents)
And after sometime the wine tasted very nice.
Since then every year I do my own wine and it is a great hobby if you don't mind to get your hands stained for a while.
    I wish you success
No matter if you taste cheap or very expensive wines.
I like your work, as many other people do.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few wow moments in my life. The greatest wow has to be when on my thirtieth birthday I was gifted a 6 bottle case of Chateau d’Yquem 1983 (that being my birth year) for which I still have 5 remaining. I opened the first bottle last year on my fortieth and it was absolutely fantastic.
Amazing video! What a bottle and review! Superb, monsieur!
