They started out Zeppelin, and slowly transitioned it into Tool. They legit paid homage to the original, but made it their version during the second half of the song. It's not like most all other bands that either try to do the original as it was done before all the way through, or they change the entire thing from start to finish like Metallica's cover of "Turn the Page".
They also covered a song by Peach called "You Lied" and it's amazing. Justin Chancellor, the bassist for Tool, he was in Peach before joining Tool. Worth checking out for sure
I find it a bit dry at times. The title track and Rosetta Stoned are really good. The rest just doesn’t quite hit that sweet spot for me. I think it’s the production and mixing
It's interesting to hear a little bit of King Crimson in some of the guitar work (Tool took some inspiration from King Crimson) here in a Led Zeppelin cover. You can definitely hear it near the end of the song. Great work by Tool.
Opiate EP [1992], Undertow [1993], AEnema [1996], Lateralus [2001], 10,000 Days [2006] and last Fear Inoculum [2019] Tool’s Discography in the order that they were released.
I think you can only find photos but they did play this Live a few times, one of their shows was on Halloween and they came out dressed as Led Zeppelin. They are huge fans and respect them a lot.
@@Ogt92 I have listened to it a couple of times and I don't really don't think it's not bad. Listen to what the guitar is doing and end it with the snare drum. There's a couple of doubles in there no big deal. Give it a shot you never know.
Of course I like the Led Zeppelin studio version best but the best I ever heard was from the Led Zeppelin movie The song remains the same, that live version will extremely blow you away
You know Tool can be considered a direct derivative of the Rush “formula” I’ll let you kinda fit the pieces of that together before extrapolating on it myself.🥁🎸🎹🎤🤘🖖✌️
stellar cover. i think it's fair to say that 10,000 days is a drop off from Lateralus, but it's also fair to say there's no bad song on it and that it is still a great album, even if the previous releases felt more like albums rather than just collections of songs - more cohesive. fear inoculum is as good a sounding album as you'll ever hear in terms of the clarity, especially the drums. i'd say they're a decent couple of albums to work your way through a song at a time....?
Imo No it's not fair to say. They're both equally as good. Right In Two is S Tier. Lateralus might be better when you take Shrooms and listen to Reflection, Parabola. Every Tool album is equally as good imo.
I'm a TOOL superfan so I love their entire discography. But if I have to be objective, the "real" TOOL start after Aenima. So if you stopped at Lateralus you missed exactly half of their grandeur.
@@heyskipj I think you understand what I meant by "real". Up until that point they were a great rock band. At the time it was full of great bands that were emerging in the scene of grunge, alternative, metal etc. TOOL was initially one of these big bands. But then, with the arrival of Justin, TOOL stopped being one of those bands. They cannot be included in any category and from Aenima to date, TOOL only resemble TOOL. That's what I meant by "real" I don't mean older songs are bad.
Well, this is the first time I have listened to Tool and I did make it through the song but I must admit I was getting bored half way through. Not for me, there were parts I liked but I much prefer the Zeppelin version.
My favorite cover EVER of any song...amazing!!

This is a great observation. That is exactly what they did!
Exactly. This version is sick. One of THE best covers that pays homage to and evolves the original.
Amaze balls every time🤘...all time fave cover...period...Heart's cover of Stairway to Heaven live in front of Zep at Kennedy Center a close second

Give 10,000 Days another chance. A huge section of their fandom considers it their best album.
100 percent
🤮

Me too. Early Tool. But no quarter, thers bo words. Tool!!¡

I like the megaphone effect of the vocals, makes it sound even more dystopian. I love this song.
And then when it cuts clean to the chorus it’s magical!
@@Gideonite Yep!
Tool is the only band that lends any authenticity to this cover. The Best.
👍 JP, Love Tool
You should reintroduce yourself to 10,000 days. I felt the same way you did and now i love it. It is tough to follow Lateralus.
I like how tool incorporates some of zeppelins live version into this song. I love fear inoculum. Pneuma as one of my favorite tool songs.
As a drummer in my early days No Quarter was one of my best songs to play. And tool just made it 10 times better
As a drummer myself I agree but I don't think I can pull off the ending.. lol Best cover ever!!

Fear Inoculum is a fantastic album you should def check out. Production on the album is next level. Cheers and spiral out 👁🙌🏼
Coldest riff ever.
Looknat the backgroud!?!. Hes country. 🤠
If you like how they remade that, check out the Salival Live version of Pushit. Same song, completely different version...and Live.
This was available on a box set that was released with dvds of of music videos and live recordings
🤘🏻🌀
First time i see you as a fan boy lol
What is it with TOOL music! Am I limited in my experience? why can I listen to the discography over and over and never get tired of it?
I didn’t know Crowbar did a cover of No Quarter. Now I gotta go check that out
Fear Innoculum is great. Different being they took forever to make it but it has some amazing parts to it . Sounds amazing, Duh

@@mushroom11g55 i agree they are all great. for me Aenima has the most high quality 'proper' songs.
Thank you Justin! Fear Inoculum is their masterpiece
Very interesting cover.
I know
😅😅😅
Justin this is live by the way.
Its on a live album called Salival
Dude your missing out if you haven’t listened to the newest album Fear Inoculum
You need to listen to fear inoculum. 😨

"real" TOOL?

Agree
That VHS version you used to own is worth some 💰💰
