Watching the whole section with cutting out those diagonal slots I just kept thinking "man that would be much faster if you had a mill". I go back and forth between thinking it would be really cool to see what Michael could do with a fully kitted out shop and thinking that the figuring out how to make do is the most interesting part to watch
I was thinking the same. Then I wondered if cutting out the larger hole and welding the slots in after would've been an easier alternative. Still, clean-up, so that's debatable.
In my opinion doing things his way makes it art instead of just fabrication. A waterjet would be fast and easy way to cut hardox etc. Maybe a collab with Fireball tool after his shop is completed so we could see the "CAD" approach?
I love how his videos are just good old honest sword making videos, with funny bits spread out across the video.. No dubstep music in the back, no crazy unneeded cinematic shots. Can't get more perfect than this
I know of no cat who would do this. Every cat I know of, had or have would be like: "Is this for me?" And would at least sniff it. Even when cutting onions my cat (who knows onions!!) always sniffs them and then instantly regrets it.. I think this one has seen enough things in his shop to trust his advice...

A tip for forming copper. Heat it up and quench in water to anneal it THEN it will be softer and bend easier. Dont heat it and bend shapes like you would with mild steel.
Every time I think I’ve figured out all the ways to jury rig something, I find another of your videos. It really is a masterclass in how to make amazing stuff with ingenuity instead of CNC and plasma cutters.

Hey Mike, just wanted to say glad you're back. I've been teaching myself to weld on my breaks and lunches at work. It's 22 guage to 16 guage sheet metal and it's galvanized, so it's rough but I plan to take my welding test this week. Just wanted to say you had a bit to do with it, been watching your stuff for years and finally acted on my wanting to learn the skill. God bless man, take it easy

We've had 3 people get galvanized poisoning and one guys currently in the hospital with a collapsed lung. OSHA is looking into it at the moment as well. But thanks for trying to look out for me man
I don't usually watch videos like these, as I run my own plastics fabrication workshop. It's the last thing you'd think I'd want to watch after a long day of work. But I have watched ever single video on your channel this past year. The humor, is great, and the videos are very relaxing. Even when you're gashing open your shins, and burning yourself (sorry buddy) Edit: Funnily enough, that Plague sword has been my favorite work of yours. Absolutely amazing!
I love Mike's ability to overcome his tool limitations with ingenuity but these ingenious workarounds usually seem incredibly time intensive. I feel like expanding his shop to include things like a mill and lathe would increase his output by enough that he should be able to recoup his expenses relatively quickly, also more time with his family or for sleep etc.
@@AdrianMulligan they also didn’t have what he uses… he’s not a blacksmith 😂. He just has worse versions of what he probably should have. Still leaps and bounds above ancient sword makers who also happened to make fictitious fantasy swords.
White vinegar is pretty great stuff. I've used it to save all kinds of odd kitchen tools. It'll take off rust, scale, grime, baked-on burned food, dubious bathroom stains, all kinds of stuff, and it's non-toxic for pets. And it's cheap, basically my go-to for when cooking goes bad and burns to the pan; soak it overnight in white vinegar, comes right off. And if you're like me, and forget you put laundry in the washer, and then leave it for 3 days because you're a space cadet, just pop a cup of vinegar in there with your usual detergent and rewash to de-stink. So many uses. Sorry for the vinegar digression lol. Great video! Glad to see your axe wound healed up.

Check out "tube bending springs." As a plumber I use these to bend soft drawn copper supply lines for fixtures without kinking them. The work suprisingly well, and a set can be had for quite inexpensive.
I like watching your videos. If something doesn't work the way you want it, it is almost as much fun watching you solve the problem than it is to complete the project. Rather inspiring, actually.

That jury rigged jigsaw file was a fantastic idea! Now why didn't I think of that before... I'm well known of thinking outside the box too... I can see many applications where this would be a superior tool. Just ensure the shaft is softish and not as brittle as the file and it should last a long time! Awesome!!! With the jeweler's saw, (the frame-sawy thing) the closer the piece is supported, the better the cut. That's why they're usually used with jeweler's 'fingers' horizontally, instead of vertically.

Be careful when heating galvanized metal above 480°F it releases fumes can't remember if its toxic or cancer causing but you need lots of ventilation.

The magic comes from the fact he doesn't use a mill, people that made swords never had that machinery anyways!

With as many times as he's hurt himself improvising, I think it may be a good idea. Still, he does what he can with what he has.
Yeah. Considering how complicated the stuff he makes is. Swords used in battle and more practical ones are not as full of so many finicky details.
