Critics & Censors didn't get it then and still don't now. Cronenberg will always be legendary because of his fearless and intelligent approach, at pushing humans to confront the dark areas of the mind on film.

Unfortunately, when it came to his film Crash, it was as dull as ditch water.

Film is like music and any other form of art, creativity, and expression. You as an individual take it in your own way. To agree with everything somebody else says or thinks makes you a follower and unable to make your own decision. As a musician I get something different from certain lyrics than others get, it doesnt make me a bad person or a person that has to always make an argument or oppose someone else's way of thinking, it makes you ask what someone else thinks and creates a conversation. Censorship does nothing but make people search and dig and imagine "why is this bad?" "What makes this "bad" in the eyes of a higher power?" Censorship helps no one, it tries to hide or mask something people dont want to talk or think about.

The movie is boring. And the shot is just normal. Compare that to most movies at that time.

Vision of Ecstacy is very blasphemous. St. Theresa is well-known for writing her biography in great detail. Even academics value her writing because she has a complete diagnosis of her illnesses. She records every event. The problem is that the short film sexualizes St Theresa and portrays her as a conman. It's as if having sex with Jesus Christ is an attack in the Gay News. It is unnecessary and makes no sense.
It's unnecessary, and it's not a good idea. You've probably seen the UA-cam videos of monkeys eating human poop. Nobody likes that unnecessary content. In a marketplace, for example, you could post a sign that says, "If you walk her, you're stupid or a buffon," with the intention of mocking the people who come to your store. That is unnecessary and detrimental to your store's profit.

I suppose we should make a film that includes necessary elements such as philosophical and moral lessons. I'm saddened to say that this is a problem even in modern comics. You can't censor it, so the only thing you can do is avoid its content. They make fun of people by using politics that aren't necessary for the plot of the comic.🤣🤣

It's surreal how they are not getting it! Now, 30 years later, we have outgrown anything close to what is shown in Crash, but still, I've never seen or read about this specific kink being real, It would not surprise me. It is a very captivating and disturbing film, still, I saw it the third time, 2 years ago.

Naked lunch wasn't critically and commercially panned at all. Cronenburg IS a serious director. Some closeted fools on this.

Alexander Walker clearly hadn't read his Ballard closely if that was his only conclusion and takeaway from the book. Bet he secretly loved the Rosanna Arquette scenes in the film but was internally flagellating about it so he tried to seem above it all and slam the whole film🙄

Yes, it's clear :) I was weirdly aroused by her and Holly Holm when it came out, I was 16 years old.

Cronenberg is a brilliant man. 'Crash' is a great film. What critics often amount to are hypocritics.

'Visions of Ectasy' is quite lovely and not at all squalid or laughable, if a bit dated due to the synth-heavy soundtrack and the Jarman-esque art direction. I find it a profoundly feministic tableau. Absurd that the board claimed they wouldn't have found necr0philia or desecration of icons offensive, yet they drew the line at a living Christ.

Visions of Ecstasy os a Raw almost eortic look at Theresa accepting God. It could be religious hysteria. But its not portrayed as such. It is actually on of the rawest look into the human psych I've seen. I keep comparing it to Mulholland Dr.
