I've been playing for about a year now and your tutorials are all so helpful. Minimal talking, you dont stretch out the lessons either. I appreciate your dedication and I just want to say thank you. :)
Lovely cover, you got all the notes right! To anyone reading this, you can absolutely transpose this to full step down tuning and it actually feels quite natural My guitar was in full step down anyways and tuning to open D disuades me from playing other songs on my guitar because I’d have to tune it back. If you learn this in full step down, you can also then play it shifted up two frets by playing it in standard tuning (even better for us lazy tuners).
Thanks so much, Gareth! I've wanted to play this song for so long but always thought it would be too hard for me. You're great at breaking it down and teaching it.
Great lesson. This is my first song picking and I feel like you helped me nail it very quickly. My next challenge is learning how to pick and sing at the same time. Practice Practice Practice.
Thank you so much! These chords look so crazy on a chord chart but they're really quite simple. Perfect explanations of the chord shapes and picking patterns.
Thanks, gonna check out your website , this was great.

That's is just a beautiful tune. It's actually not that hard, but here perfectly applies the line: genius lies in simplicity. It surely does. Samuel is just amazing human being. My advice, Gareth: when u zoom in your guitar fretboard, put camera closer, or use zoom, but don't zoom it virtually on video editing software. You are loosing the quality of your footage and it becomes even more complex to watch. Anyways, apart from that - an excellent tutorial with perfect explanation. Thank you!
Thanks so much Gareth ... greetings from Spain... Saludos y gran trabajo ... muy bueno ...Gracias ... I'm looking for two songs from IRON & Wine ... Song in Stone and Dreaming ... again. .. thanks a lot ... un abrazo en la distancia...
Do NOT rest your pinky to gain stability while finger picking. 1: You don’t need to. Instead just keep your fingers close to the strings while practicing and you’ll learn to not lose position. 2: You’re wasting a valuable picking finger. In many finger picking songs you will use your pinky. 3: It will probably be hard on your joint and eventually damage it (after years of play, you know). 4: You will eventually wear a hole through the finish of the guitar and in to the guitar top itself. On a guitar like his with very thin finish that will happen very quickly. Expensive guitars tend to have thinner and more delicate finishes as well. - Good tutorial. Thanks!
I owe most of my playing style to I&W picking style, and can play many of Sams songs. Hearing how hard your thumb plays without that volume control is a thing.
just a question, im a noob and i dont have any "ear cababilities" plus im not english so I havent't understood what's the tuning, I've just undestood that i have to do something on the sixth chord, but what? I know Drop D tuning, is it the same thing?
This is great but the link to the tabs you posted on your website is pretty basic. Could you do it with the chord names and the lyrics below it so I know when to change chords? This would be a great help!
This song was easy to learn! That's a RARE thing for me, personally. Thanks for such a clear & thorough instruction. Keep it up!
right. I can play chords but when it comes to picking and having it sound harmonious was always difficult until I found this
Wow! I haven’t been playing guitar for long and was very pleasantly surprised how much easier this song is to play than it sounds. Thanks!
