Interesting Al Landon fact: Alf Landon lived to be 100 years old.
Funnily enough the Austro-Hungarian army wasn't *completely* useless throughout history. Under capable generals like Eugene of Savoy they won important victories against enemies like the French and the Ottomans, they just sucked at the whole modernising tactics and equipment thing and ended up keeling over during WW1.
Austria-Hungary was formed in 1867; that was the Grand duchy of Austria and the Kingdom of Hungary, both ruled by the Habsburg family

btw austria hungary didnt have a flag there was the ausrtian/habsburg flag black yellow and a flag fpr hungary which is the same as today with a symbol but the combined flag which alot of people are using is just the austro hungarian sailor flag which wasnt even official

It was their official civil ensign. If Austria-Hungary had existed in a time when countries were expected to have official national flags, it’s likely they would have either used the civil ensign or came up with another flag that showed both ‘halves’ of the country.
But as it stands, the civil ensign is the best singular flag Austria-Hungary did have and did use which is also a good representation of the entire country.

My friend and I decided to do a classic Canada/French Republic Entente run where he was Canada and I was France. We managed to restore both our home countries, and the game continued on as we conquered the Germans and Russians. My friend invested in tanks, but I decided I wanted to skip tanks and experiment with mechanized divisions, since I hadn't done that before. Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise. By the end of the game, as we invaded the USA, I had 2 full armies of mechanized divisions, as well as a massive amtrack corps. Some of the most fun I've had in hoi4.

That whole Empire existed as a compromise between Russian Empire, Prussia and Republic of France... organically it's an impossible Empire to maintain... it dissolves by entropy into sum of its parts, unless its externally supported by the other 3 powers. As such, rebuilding it, without the other 3 powers benefiting from that arrangement, is all together a fantasy. It kinds sucks those dynamics are not represented in any game I know.

The way Austria-Hungary exists in this mod is how it would've looked if the head of the military wasn't a raving ultranationalist.
Yeah, it was the whoever was heir to the throne after Ferdinand that wanted to grant the different regions autonomy. So the chief of the army, or maybe it was some other position he had, started pulling strings in the government and abusing his position to essentially try to start a war with Serbia on his own.
