- Ilan Rubin of The New Regime, Nine Inch Nails, and Angels and Airwaves recently stopped by the Gibson Showroom in Los Angeles, CA to try out the brand new Les Paul Special from Gibsons "Original Collection."
The new Les Paul Special TV Yellow returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played and loved shaping sound across generations and genres of music. It pays tribute to Gibson's Golden Era of innovation and brings authenticity back to life.
Originally introduced in 1955, the Les Paul Special has been embraced by musicians for over 60 years. It is based on the Les Paul Junior with a slab mahogany body, fat 50s-style mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, wraparound bridge, an additional rhythm P-90 pickup, binding on the neck and additional controls for the rhythm pickup and the 3-way toggle switch.

Played one today. They nailed it.
I just got this guitar and it’s awesome! Gibson nailed it.
Love Ilan, love Gibson, love LP Specials. Great video. Very excited about the new Angels and Airwaves stuff.
Drums in Nin and great at guitar.
Talented dude.
Always looking for something new with a design that’s 70 years old!
Finally the audio and video are in sync
He’s right about that distinctly Gibson middle position.
I have a Double cut Special that I love. Now I want this one.
"Always looking for something new..." lmao ;-)
beautiful classic guitar never heard of the player but he is fantastic and has the magic in his hands
SUGAR LIFE He’s been playing drums in Nine Inch Nails for the past 10 yrs, but also sings and plays guitar in his own band The New Regime.
Just bought one...it’s awesome
Gibson TV yellowLP Special!.....ooh yeah a fave! ...MTW LA CA USA 2020
I was hoping to see Dean DeLeo makin the demo… 😟
He's known to use that guitar. I love Dean Deleo. He's inspired me check out a les paul special. One of my fav guitars for a long time.
@@HiHello-ku1fl Look, another real hero to follow, thanks, Lord!
Dean and Bob grew up down the street from me. They played our HS and backyard parties before moving to Cali and making it big...Real nice guys
YES! THIS!
"Tiny Music" is the reason I have one now. Love that album. The DeLeo bros are my biggest inspirations.
TV yellow is epic! Gibson did this right
Man this is SWEET! :))
Looks fantastic.
Been torn between this and the Jr. This has decided it for me. Ordering the Special!
So.. here we are 3 years later. What do you think of it?
TV Yellow is O.K., Il like the binding and the pearl logo but this Specials would be even better with more options when it comes to finishes. Mine is chocolate brown, I like it.
I have one...Gibson is back.
Anyone know what that last riff he played is from? I absolutely loved it!
Great guy
If this comes out eventually in cherry, I'm SOLD
The 2016 model did! I just bought one.
I thought he was a drummer
He plays Guitar and drums.
Ben Weeks its Gibson trying to sell to Drummers too
Piano too. I've even seen him play cello quite well
WHAT SHOULD I GET! This or the SG with Maestro vibrola! (64 style)
That's a good one.
This one
Yeah this one. I am getting one of these.
I'm pretty much trying to make up my mind between those aswell and maybe an SG special but I'm not sure about the color options for those. As a player I'm into those stripped down workhorse guitars but that SG sure looks classy with the vibrola and all.
Just picked one of these up and its incredible.
So how is this new ?? they've been building these for years . Great guitars for sure , they make these every year , mine is a 2014
It isn't. "I'm always looking for something new" is clearly a reference to art, experience, and musical expression.
Jimmy Page heavily used Telecaster as well...
He played Danelectros and those offset Fender 12 strings aswell. The double necked SG was brought in to do certain songs live so he wouldn't have to switch back and forth between guitars.
Can't fine a used one on reverb or e-Bay
tv yellow!
Thick neck and heavy with pickups so hot that even delicate fingerpicking sounds like shouting
What song is Ian playing at the intro?
Wonder who makes a good copy of this guitar?
Could be Tokai
The best copy is the Epiphone one - it's amazing
What was that riff in the beginning?
This Guitar in Cherry?.... TAKE MY MONEY! LOL!
Chris Dice Art they have it in cherry now. Did they take your money?
@@homer7504 well......did they take your money??
I wonder what amp he's using?
What is the song called that he is playing???
"what brings us down" by the new regime
@@TheDonelectro thank you!!!
fretboard is looking a little dry for a sales video is it just me?
ben shapiro it’s just you
I was worried about that, but board on mine is nice, and dark.
Great guitar. Great move by Gibson. Maybe someone better suited for this demo?
Secret.. Jimmy Page recorded albums using a Fender Telecaster 😂
Mostly the first album bro. Know ur facts. First album and stairway cover most of the tele years. His Les Paul stuff IMO is my favorite!
@@jbojoify no shit. I didnt say all albums did i.
Well he did more then just Led Zep.. He was a sessionplayer aswell. Some say it's him playing on the early Them/van Morrison stuff.
Ask PRincE.
1:24 well, that didn't age well lmao
Is this the Custom Shop version of the les paul special? It doesn't have those big ass washers on the tuners....looks like the small vintage type ferrules. I can't stand those big ass ugly washers and bolts on the tuners they use on a lot of production guitars. Is it that much harder to do it the old way?
Not CS, this is USA.
@@onlyguitars must be a spec change. Mine has the washers instead of push-in bushings. I would've preferred the latter
Colo
"looking for something new". "so here's a Guitar the exact opposite of new"
Lol. Guitar is awesome but this guy was all "I" statements and contradictions.
Helps to consider the CONTEXT. This is a "new" line being introduced by Gibson, possibly at a price point that normally is not associated with the quality and features of this particular release. Could be what he was referring to.
It is new!
3 minutes of talking and one minute playing. Completely uniseful demo
Omg so much talking...
