Great narration and video. I watch this each time I go through this annual nightmare of cleaning the filter. You make it a lot easier and not so emotionally draining.

One thing to note, you can assemble the entire filter outside of the housing. Put the wing nuts on, and then lift and place the whole thing into the housing at once. This makes attaching the top manifold much easier when you don't have to try to get all the fins together and try to wiggle the manifold down on that 2 inch pipe with the gasket.

Nice video, thanks for putting it out there. One thing to add, particularly when you get algae in the pool or on the grids, if you take a spray bottle of muriatic acid and spray the grids after cleaning it will get the tiny algae spores out of the grids and make them flow better. It doesnt harm the grids, just spray on and let them sizzle for a minute or so and dunk them in the pool for a rinse. Careful to wear gloves and a mask so you dont breath the spray in.

I watched 3 videos before I found yours...OH THANK HEAVENS FOR YOUR VIDEO!! You spoke slowly and clearly and explained the part where I had been stuck for at least 30 minutes and could not figure out how to get the grids back into the casing how they were. I was so frustrated and listened and watched your instructions and went out and FOUND the little place that said small grid!! YES!!! got them back in and then went back in house and watched the rest of your video.....then finished up and lubed all the parts and washed everything inside and outside....CLEAN! Turned on the pool and HIP HIP HURRAY!!! it is perfect. And then added the DE and I am so proud of myself ....and I did not have to call a MAN. I DID IT!!! Thank you so much!

Nice video. You might want to look at removing the grid as a unit. "Lift here" is for taking it in/out of the housing, not for removing the manifold. You're supposed to pull the whole thing out as a unit. Then I flip it over, but my Hayward has little legs on the manifold for doing so. But never seen anyone disassemble in the housing. To reassemble, I put the manifold on the ground, and stick the grids in the holes. Then the spider practically falls into place with a little wiggle. Stick the bolts through and flip over (one bolt at a time if you have two, my Hayward has one). The the whole unit then drops back in using the "lift here" handles to carry it. It's much more obvious if something isn't seated correctly or tightened up when you pick up the (now very light) filter grid as a whole unit.

I would beg to differ... for starters you don’t just open the filter up without mentioning that it’s a pressurized system and you need to open the air bleed first, there are different types, or else you could launch the top of your filter into your neighbors bmw

Thank you. I'm so glad I ran across your video first. It's not as scarry as it looked to be. How often do you clean your filters? I would recommend adding a Waterco Pre-filter to the mix. I absolutely love the thing and you catch most of the junk before it ever hits your filter. Best part is when draining it out, you only use 4 gallons of water when you drain it out. Bonus all the way around.

I found an easy way to reinstall DE filter pads that needs to be shared. I don’t do videos so perhaps you can add this to one of yours. I was one of those who struggled with getting my Hayward filter pads realigned after taking them off the manifold. There was always one or two that would leak DE back into the pool on completion. I thought one or more may have torn but it turned out the filter pads weren’t seated properly to the manifold. I found it by running the pump in the backwash mode (cover off) and seeing water leaking from several of the connections. After disassembling I turned the manifold upside down, started with the short pad and worked clockwise outside to inside making sure all pads were well seated into the manifold and there correct spacers. The hardest part was getting the long bolt back into the manifold hole and it wasn’t that bad. All in all this was a much easier task than working from the normal position and no leaks or DE back into my pool. As a side note, I almost purchased a new filter set at $100 plus.

+sober guy Are you talking about the plastic manifold on the very top of the grids? If so it has to be lined up pretty close on every grid and the main stand pipe. You may need to lubricate the o-ring where it snaps on the stand pipe. You may also need to gently apply downward pressure while wiggling the entire stack of grids to get it to snap in place. Just be careful as you don't want to crack the manifold. Hope this helps...

You might try a mix solution of water and vinegar to wash the stucco. Try a small area first.

Lift here means you don’t need to unscrew anything. Just lift it by the manifold and the whole thing with the grids attached will come out. And u just set it near the drain and clean with the hose. No need for tearing apart everything.

      We almost agree…
The video you watched was one of our earliest videos and we were/are still learning.
You can lift the entire unit out like you mentioned, but may need to break it down to inspect all the grids.

@@diycollaborative yeah but still you don’t need to make it 100% perfect. Don’t need to inspect every single grid. When cleaning it just spray with hose the grids and some water inside around the manifold. And when u put it back in the tank, do one last backwash before starting filtering the pool. That backwash will flush any residue you didn’t pick up. And also it saves on time. I have Pentair FNS plus too and once I dismantled it and I was putting it back for 3 hours and had terrible headaches

Yes - May depend on size of the pool and usage. I’ve even considered an outdoor shower for patrons to use before swimming.

@@diycollaborative Not my post but the only real defect i saw was that you can pick up the entire grid assembly rather than disassembling inside the canister. The "PULL HERE" indicators are there for a reason :cheese:
