  • Zero Motorcycle has 2 great electric motorcycles on the market at the moment and both of them are worth a test ride.
    The Zero SR and DSR, or the Zero FX.
    These bikes are much easier to learn on than a traditional bike, are quieter, smoother and cheaper to operate and if I didn't already own a bike, I'd be looking to switch over to a Zero. Seriously... I hope you enjoy this Zero first ride and full review video.

    This might be the bike for me. Honestly I would love to learn to ride "traditional" bikes but this looks like a really simple way to gain confidence and learn basic riding.

      It is seriously the easiest bike to learn on. The problem is you’ll enjoy it so much you won’t want to switch to a “traditional” bike. Haha

      Robert Norrie / Don't waste your valuable time on an old bike technology. If you have a daily commute/total miles less than 75 daily...buy this bike.
      It's clean, cheap to ride, and has virtually ZERO maintenance. Why buy an old tech bike?

      If it's outside your price range, you could start on something like a Honda CT110 (also known as the Postman's bike). It's a small bike, so it's easy to control and the best part is, it has no clutch. It has a gearbox (3 speed, I think) but you don't need to operate a clutch to take off or change gears. It's called the Postman's bike because they can use them to deliver mail with their left hand without having to worry about pulling in a clutch to stop at each letterbox.

    I live in the city and don't commute very far or go very fast very often. Ninety percent of my ride time is spent sitting at traffic lights. A charge lasts weeks. I got it end-of-year sale new for $7500, and there were state and federal rebates on top of that. Although perfect for my niche, I understand that they have their limitations. Things can only get better.

    I've been riding a DSR as my daily commuter for 8 months. I love driving a stick and hate automatics. But I LOVE riding this bike. It has more jump than my BMW R1150R. There's no noise and I can hear other traffic better. Coming up toms stop light I can brake with my right foot and put my left foot down when I stop at a long light - and keep it down until I twist my wrist. (I always found it kinda awkward to switch feet so I could put it in gear.) It's nice for slowly squeezing between cars in the parking lot or driveway. Faster acceleration and higher speeds do cut the range down, and I can see where riding for an hour or two then charging for an hour (IF you have the J1772 charger) is not exactly ideal trekking scenario. But for a daily commuter this bike is AWESOME!

Only a commuter that never does adventure trips etc....boring shit if you ask me....I only see nerd types afraid of learning to ride a real motorcycle wanting these or else someone selling Thierry image as environmental warrior...even though in reality if could be just as polluting since most power is generated burning fuels that pollute anyway ....arguably one could charge at home via solar panels but even the manufacture of solar panels uses a lot of petroleum products getting to finished product

    Very nice video. My thoughts... This bike would greatly benefit from traction control. I like the idea of this bike very much, but the range is a deal breaker. Not to mention the 10 hour charge time. Battery technology just isn't to the point where this can compete with a gas powered bike. I sure wish it was.

    Belt change 24,000 miles plus need to do checks on brake fluid, wheel bearings, shocks tyres rims etc no such thing as zero maintenance but a hell of a lot less than a conventional motorcycle. Will get myself one when battery technology improves a bit more.

    One of my biggest issues with bikes designed like this is where do you carry your change of clothes if you are using it for commuter purposes?
    I need to carry a suit inc shirt & tie and a laptop which I strap to the rear seat & the top box comes in handy for the locks

    why are the tires so knobby?

    • @DownieLive
      @DownieLive  6 років тому +4

      They have 2 styles of bikes (street fighter or dirt bike) and 2 types of tires to choose from (street or knobby) and you can mix and match (example: street tires on the dirt bike makes a supermoto). It’s kinda cool actually.
      So yeah, I had knobby tires on the street fighter bike.

    • @blueman5924
      @blueman5924 5 років тому +1

      DownieLive I myself wouldn’t call them knobby tires as those are normally off road only, no DOT rating. I would call those enduro tires as they have an open blocky tread design and have a DOT street rating, acceptable for on and off road use, hence, the enduro model of Zero.
