Ted, as regards focus by wire, Hasselblad includes a feature on the X1D which I think of as micro-focus. Using either the rear screen or the EVF, press the "*" button to zoom in 100%. At that point you can use your finger on the rear screen to pan around inside the image and move the focus ring on the lens back and forth to get extremely sharp focus. I use this feature a lot when shooting focus critical subjects. It does take some additional time but if your shooting landscapes, nature, building etc. you usually have time to get razor sharp focus.
Nice review of the lens, thank you. A tilt shift lens is the missing link in the xcd range.I wish Hasselblad release one as soon as possible,As an architectural photographer It's the only thing holding me back from entering the Blad system and I'm sure I'm speaking on behalf of many other architectural photographers.
Makes me think of this with the X1D being basically a modern Hasselblad SWC. The SWC had a 38mm but at 6x6 that's still about a 24mm on a 35mm equivalent. Pretty neat compact kit.
Great video, by the way I am an organ fiend, tell the young man Bravo! That lense is sweet what are the $$$ for that little gem? Thanks again for taking us along.
you are saying the problems with the wide lenses in MF, but one question, do you need a center filter (evens exposure, throughout the coverage of the lens, ie in the corners), as I recall some hasselblads (500 V-system) do require a center filter for those specific focal lengths; as this is a pro system, and they wouldn't sell it to you if there where any 'optical flaws' in it.
Heck yeah. So excited to hear this announcement from Hasselblad. My daily shooter is currently a Hasselblad SWC/M and it’s amazing to see a modern equivalent to such a remarkable lens
I've owned the 21mm now for about a week, and just received the XCD 120 Macro about two weeks ago. So I now own all five of the XCD lenses. I am loving this 21, which now gives me the opportunity to shoot similar super wide shots like my DSLR friends can. It opens up a whole new arena for medium format users, where we can now become a bit more creative in the near-far aspects of composition.
Great Reviev but keep the sensor side in mind. The 21mm with the X1D sensor of 44mm wide, results in an horizontal angle of 91 degrees, according to the specs of the data sheet. The 24mm H lens with an 60mp or 100mp sensor 54mm wide, gives you amazng 97 degrees in the horizontal.
Great review. Have you tested the tilt shift adapter with the X1D ? He just special to see the kit play, and the contrast of a very young men and a very old instrument
First off, major kudos to Ben! Amazing! As far as tilt shift lenses go, have you thought about trying Canon TS-E’s on the X1D? The sensor in the Hassy isn’t much bigger than a full frame sensor. You probably couldn’t use the Canon lenses with full movements but they should be able to provide enough coverage to allow for some movements. Just a thought if that’s something you really want to try out.
I haven't tried the Canon but I have tried the Nikon PC-E 24mm and 45mm - both of them cover well and you can even do a little bit of tilting and shifting before you hit the edge… I'll have to try the Canon as well.
Excellent review, many thanks for sharing. I believe this lens can be used with the HTS adapter....latter works with X1D MKII and even allows AF. Would be great if you did a video on the use of HTS with it. Cheers
Hi! I had a question regarding your editing skills, specifically for the photo at 6:22, you seem to make the colors pop so well and get the darks the be so rich but not to dark, how do you do this or what do you focus on in your editing? Lovely video by the way, always enjoy your videos since they have so much information and you talk so smooth :)
Ted, the X-Pan was made by Fuji Film as the TX-1., and the TX-2. Hasselblad never made a 35mm camera. And Ben, follow your dreams, you play the organ VERY WELL.
If Fujifilm doesn't, Venus Optics has already been developing a 17mm f/4 for the GFX. If it offers the same performance as the 15mm f/2 for Sony, it would be incredible.
Can take LLC plate and filter is very important !!.... that's the problem i had with XF and 28 which i end up buying alpa later which was a very costly mistake!
I have the 21mm and the autofocus doses drive me crazy at times But I go ahead and use manual and it go's better but thats a personal thing I then to uses manual alot.
This can not be the case! Hasselblad Zeiss 30mm f 3.5 must be the WIDEST lens produced to date. 180 degree field of view and made for 6x6. If talking shortest focal length, then I might agree, but WIDEST - No!

Fantastic musicianship there and I am sure he will go far, great to see an in depth review of this lens and some great test images.

The SWC was one of my favorite cameras - that lens was beautiful. This lens is very similar and as you pointed out - even a little wider.
Wonderful camera, the results were great, had one myself.
Thank you , nice review , great illustration of use .
Thanks for the review. How could you film the boy on the organ with that lens? Is there an adapter for the GFX system or so?
Wow vertical lines are so damn vertical ... Have u done any corrections?
Superb lens for Architecture 😍😍😍
Great video, by the way I am an organ fiend, tell the young man Bravo! That lense is sweet what are the $$$ for that little gem? Thanks again for taking us along.
I really liked the image with the Nikon lens! The tones are beautiful.

'Pulling out all the stops....
I like that outdoor shot of the carpark - nice.
"How old are you?" "12" This boy is so gifted!

Wow! for both the lens and Ben's organ chops.
:: 2:12 wow, look at all that amazing stain glass work! gorgeous!

*looks left, looks right* Did you ask Ben to play "In a Gadda Da Vida" on the Organ?
Great video! What is the filter holder system you are using?
Nice, beautiful photos, nice color. Love the music, he is very talented.
hats off to Ben! and thanks for another cool video:)
yes, I can see you "pulled out all the stops" for this one!! :-))

Jeroen Verzijden it's all about that curve,

VERY COOL! Greetings from Fort Worth Texas my friend!
Dear Ted, Not 100% sure but arn't the latest lens made by Fuji? Wonder if Fuji will bring something out very similar for the GFX
If Fujifilm doesn't, Venus Optics has already been developing a 17mm f/4 for the GFX. If it offers the same performance as the 15mm f/2 for Sony, it would be incredible.
It is not made by Fuji
Would like to try using this in a social documentary setting...The problem of course is the $5000 CAD price tag...maybe some day
Thanks for another great informative video
Never mind the lens! Go Ben!! Amazing talent! - - - Oook, the lens is great, too! :-D
Can take LLC plate and filter is very important !!.... that's the problem i had with XF and 28 which i end up buying alpa later which was a very costly mistake!
nice vlog. I'd be curious to find ring adapter for this lens on my V system if someone knows it please advise.
Love the photography, the boy has talent😎
I have the 21mm and the autofocus doses drive me crazy at times But I go ahead and use manual and it go's better but thats a personal thing I then to uses manual alot.
which ball head is that? Thank you in advance
Are you going to review the Fujifilm GFX 50S?
I’d like to - it’s the only digital medium format system I haven’t worked with yet.
Xpan mode??? Very intrigued!
So I take the Loxia 21 mm on Sony for the manual focus. :-)
Hasselblad should produce some Perspective control lenses to be an alternative to Fuji GFx
I'd love to hear some Pantera or Lamb Of God played by Ben, Organ Metal would be super interesting.
Great music!
This makes my Mamiya 65mm look like a tolophoto, at least I have true manual focus
Thank you.
i need a follow up on this kid...still playing or what ?
That’s cool.
Little Hans Zimmer on that organ… what in the world…
I wonder if Ben could play anything from Interstellar
Oh man. Nice new haircut 😁

That Zeiss is a fisheye lens though. But true the field of view is wider.
The results just couldn’t be compared.
I admire how long you can go without breathing. 😅
wish it was f3
I can't afford an FX camera and i'm whatching this video... why?
🤤 🤤 🤤
hmh, i had no idea
Nice lens apparently... but the caveat id the X1D.
Make a X1d Hotshoe GPS ?
The X1D comes with one…
The Art of Photography ok!
Looks like a $300 Samyang.
I understand you don`t want to send this lens back... but you can buy it! :P
